When I woke up the next morning my face was swollen from crying
I stood up and freshened up, feeling a bit better
Alpha Jason had been so mad yesterday and I felt bad
I thought of what I could do to make him feel better. I didn't just want to go in with an apology.
Then I thought of making breakfast for him. At least, that was thoughtful
So I dressed up and headed for the kitchen
It was busy with the maids walking around as the prepared dishes
I stood there at the door, unnoticed for a while before someone finally saw me and then they all did
There was a brief silence for a while as they all acted like I was nothing important
They began to murmur
"What is she doing here?"
"What does she want?"
No one even bothered to greet me. I slowly walked in fully and approached one of the maids, trying to have a conversation with her
She quickly turned round, ignoring me
I turned to another and she did the same
Thankfully, someone spoke
"Please what are you doing here?" She asked.
"Oh," I smiled sheepishly. "Dear, I just want to make breakfast for the alpha."
Some of them snickered
"You? You want to make breakfast for whom? For what? Is that the reason you were brought here?"
"I just want to..."
"Please leave this place, don't cause any troubles for us. We were assigned to make breakfast for the Alpha and not you. We don't need you to do our job for us."
I shifted on my feet, not knowing what to tell them as they all returned to their duties, leaving me standing there like a statue
Just then, Natasha walked in and when they saw her, they all stood respectful and greeted with a bow
"Sarah?" Natasha did not regard their greetings but called a name with a stern look on her face
It happened to be the same one who had just spoken to me
Sarah stepped forward fearfully, her head bowed
"Can you repeat the words you just said to the Luna right now?" Natasha told her but she only kept her head down without saying anything
"Have you suddenly gone deaf and dumb?" Natasha said.
"No please," Sarah replied with a shaky voice. "I just told her she was not supposed to cook as we are assigned to do so."
"You told her? Who?"
The Lady looked up at me briefly
"The Luna," she replied hesitantly
"The Luna," Natasha repeated. "You do realise she is the Luna yet you spoke to her with no respect nor regard. Wait till the Alpha hears of this."
"Natasha please," Sarah fell to her knees and pleaded. "I beg of you, don't tell the Alpha. Please I did not mean to disrespect her. I am sorry."
"If you really are sorry I expect you apologize to the person you wronged," Natasha said and Sarah turned to me
"I am so sorry Luna. I did not mean to disrespect you."
"It's okay," I said with a sigh, thankful that Natasha had come in just in time to save my face from that shame
"Get back to work," Natasha orders and they all did
Even the maids in the palace do not regard me
Natasha turned to me
"I am so sorry for that," she said.
"I should be thanking you instead," I told her. She faced me fully
"I am sure you must be upset with me about what happened yesterday," she said. "Believe me I had no idea that was going to happen and when the people tried to attack you had to protect you. I couldn't tell Alpha Jason everything because he would not spare me. But you are his wife and I thought he wouldn't punish you."
I looked at her thoughtfully for a moment.
Her words and resolve sounded convincing even though her lies yesterday really hurt me. I did not like the way Alpha Jason reacted to it
But then, why would she have risked her life to take me to a place that wasn't safe for both of us?
And just now too, she had protected me from the ridicule of the maids
I cannot hold it against her even if I wanted to, for what she did for me this morning
"I hope you are not still angry with me?" She asked with a small smile that did not reach her eye
"No, not at all Natasha. It's fine," I returned the smile and she nodded
"Thank you. What brings you to the kitchen though?"
"I just want to prepare breakfast for the alpha," I said and she squinted her eyes at me
"You? Why? You don't have to do that or have you forgotten you are Luna?"
"Alpha Jason was not happy with what happened yesterday," I said. "So I wanted to make the meal for him to apologize."
"Oh..."
"And I think you can help me. Can you tell me what his favourite meal is? I'll prepare it for him and I hope it pacifies him."
She smiled
"Alpha Jason is not really hard to please," she said. "I mean to other people, yes he's very hard on others but I don't expect him to be hard on you. He wasn't hard on his first wife, Elena. Come, I will show you how to prepare his favourite meal."
"Thank you so much Natasha."
She assisted me and when I was done I took the food to the alpha
He was at his study when I knocked, he barely looked up at me
"I made food for you," I told him and added. "Your favourite."
He motioned at me to drop it on the table. I did and waited.
"Well, won't you eat it and now tell me if you like it?" I pushed. I could tell he was still upset as he barely answered me
But then he opened the food and immediately he did, almost puked.
He jumped to his feet and I looked at him in surprise
"What's wrong?" I asked with concern
"What is the meaning of this, Aria?" He asked, covering his nose with his hand.
