After Alpha Jason made sure I was comfortable in bed, he turned to leave but I called him back.
"Do you need anything?" He asked and I nodded and immediately shook my head.
"Well, I don't necessarily need something, but I just want us to have a discussion," I said and he stood for a while before deciding.
"Alright, what is it. I am listening."
I swallowed hard. Now that I had gotten his attention my throat suddenly went dry as he stood there, looking at me.
He cocked his head in a direction, as he waited for me to speak. I had to clear my throat.
"Well now that I am here and you've marked me, I just want to know the things I should do or not. If there are any duties for me or anything at all. Something like an orientation."
He raised his brow.
"I doubt you'll need any since you've been a Luna before," he stated.
"If I knew how to be a good Luna perhaps I would still be at my pack with my Alpha," I said slowly. "But the life I lived there got me a prosecution and betrayal so I think not. Besides, I am now Luna to a different man in a different pack. I don't know what your rules are."
"Mmm," Jason grunted and observed me for a while. "Well, there is nothing much for you to learn or unlearn. But since you asked I'll just give you a few. You'll be expected to sit with me and attend all meetings by my side..."
"Wait I thought..." I paused. I didn't imagine Jason would want to show me up since all of this was just a contract. "I thought we just had an agreement between us. Are you going to present me as your Luna to your people?"
"I will have to, since I marked you. And if we really need this to work, then we must act right. Nothing would be achieved by hiding you in the room all along. So you'll have to act as my Luna and wife for real, until the contract is over."
My eyes darted in different directions as that settled in. I will have to be his Luna and wife for real?
"I mean, we'd do everything but be in love or make love," he immediately countered what I was thinking and I looked down, completely flushed. "Our duty would be to the pack and for the eyes but not directly to each other. I am sure you understand what that means."
"I understand," I muttered.
"If there is any other thing, I'll have Natasha put you through," he added, and I shot my head up. No, not Natasha please. "I'll appoint her to put you through and get you acquainted with everything you need to know. You'll adjust fine with her help."
"Can you appoint someone else?" I asked pleadingly, and he squinted his eyes.
"Why?"
"I don't think Natasha has accepted me...Yet," I added that last piece so I wouldn't get in trouble. If Jason asked me to explain what I meant by that I would have to tell him all the threats and harsh words she'd said to me and since I was the stranger where the two of them were concerned, I don't think he'd believe me over her
"Oh, Natasha can be cold, alright, but she's not really as hard as you might imagine. I chose her because she knows the pack more than anyone else, and to a great extent, she understands me well. You can learn all that from her."
Right. Just when I am trying to avoid her as much as I can.
"Is that fine?" Jason asked and I forced a smile.
"Yes," I replied.
"Is there any other thing you'd like to ask me or you want to know about?" He asked and I shook my head.
"No. I'm good."
"Look," Jason walked a few steps closer. "I know you must have had it rough and all. And I cannot assure you that I'll treat you perfectly but at least, I want you to feel something different from where you came from. I want you to be free and happy. You are not with Marcus where you were not accepted. And something tells me you were the perfect Luna, just not appreciated. One more counsel I'll give you is this, being soft does not always pay. You'll have to be tough. Because if you are not, life will sweep you off your feet. Only the strong ones always get it the way they want it. Do you want to sit there and accept anything life throws at you? Or turn the wind to your favour?"
When he paused, I thought he wanted me to give him an answer.
"I uhm..."
"No pressure, Luna," he softly interrupted. "Just think about it. Have a lovely night's rest."
He turned round and walked to the door. I watched as he opened it gently and closed it behind him. And that was when I recalled there was one more thing I had wanted to ask him.
I did not dare to, though. Because I had no idea what his reaction would be. It was about his first mate, Elena.
She was a part of his life, and I was genuinely interested in her. I have been here only a few days and I could already see how much she affected him
From afar, Alpha Jason was a very tough man. He did not seem like a man to be moved by any weak emotions, nor show any, until perhaps Elena came up.
Maybe this does not concern me but somehow, I just wanted to know more about her. When the time is right, I will ask him.
For now, I have to deal with Natasha. I have to try to be on her good list so she doesn't make my stay here hell, I decided. If I need things to work out well for me, I have to be friends with her.
