Sophie ignored me all day long, keeping a straight face and minding her business.
I knew what it was all about. I had doubted her and asked that she take another pregnancy test.
I had gone after Aria, another woman while she pleaded with me to believe her.
Her anger was justified. But she cannot really blame me. I was confused and did not know what to do.
I was afraid because of the curse. The two women cannot both be having my baby, so one of them had to be lying.
And the result I could see was the one confirming Aria's pregnancy, indicating me as the father of her child, while I could not see Sophie's, so I had to confirm.
I had ordered clothes, all the designers, jewellery, and everything I thought Sophie would like.
But she pretended not to have noticed them, facing the other side of the bed.
I lay beside her and touched her gently, but she moved away.
"Okay, fine, I get you are mad at me, and I am sorry, but what was I supposed to do? Seeing that the pregnancy result just messed with me for real, and at that moment, I was not thinking well. I apologise Sophie. I would never doubt you again."
"Marcus you were going to go after that lady, dead or alive. You did not even care. You were going to choose her over me and our baby. I begged you, tried to make you understand this was possibly all their plans but you went blind and deaf to all the signs," she said tearfully and sniffed.
"Darling I am sorry...." I tried to say but she was not done.
"I have proven to you what kind of person Aria is, but you still believe she can be any better or innocent," she continued, and I sighed. "This same lady we are talking about, tried to kill me. Marcus, she tried to hurt me and your heir. She plotted with the doctor to escape death. And must have also planned the pregnancy result to get you. Perhaps they would have succeeded. Don't you see how cunning she is? Someone who can pull all these up, is there anything you think she'd not do to remain relevant?"
"Gosh, what was I even thinking?" I muttered. "Sophie you are absolutely right. I let my emotions run over, and at that moment, I did not even recall all that had happened. All I kept thinking of was my heir, which I thought she might be carrying because of that pregnancy result. I should have known better. How can I make it up to you?"
"I don't need any of these things, Marcus," she said in a low tone. "All I need is for you to trust me. That is all. I am your true mate. I am going to give you an heir. Don't I deserve a bit of trust even from the man I love the most in this world?"
"Of course you do," I leaned in and kissed her shoulder softly. "I tell you what? I will give you one of the territories in this region. You can have it."
She suddenly jumped up and faced me fully.
"What?" Her eyes shone excitedly. "You really would do that for me?"
"Of course," I nodded, smiling and happy that she was happy. "After all you are my Queen, my wife and Luna of my pack. Time to start giving you everything you deserve. Just for carrying my baby, I can even do more for you."
"Oh, thank you so much, baby," she pulled me in and gave me a kiss. "Oh Marcus, I love you so much."
"I love you more. More than anything."
"Marcus..." She called in a sweet and sexy tone before pulling me in for another kiss. This time deeper than the last.
I kissed her back more passionately, and she led my hands to the hem of her nightdress, but I slowly pushed her back.
"What?" She asked, looking confused at the sudden disruption.
"I am worried about the baby," my eyes fell to her stomach and she followed it. "I don't want anything to happen to it."
"Oh, come on, Marcus. It's nothing serious. We'll be careful."
"Are you sure?" I was hesitant. Because of the curse, I had been shaken, and I knew my lifeline was hanging by a thread. I did not want to risk it.
"There's nothing to be worried about," she drew me back in and we continued kissing.
But just then our door creaked open.
"Alpha..." Someone called.
"What the fuck???" I muttered under my breath, mad at the interruption and turned round, ready to tear apart whoever it was.
"I am sorry for the interruption but I kept knocking and no one answered." It was beta James, and only he had access to my room like that.
"James it had better be really important," I sighed.
"It is. I need to discuss something very important with you Alpha," he said, his face looking serious. I heard Sophie stir restlessly and turned to look at her.
"Are you okay?" I asked with concern and she nodded.
"I'm just having a little cramp," she said, her face squeezed lightly in pain. "It might be the baby."
Something like a scoff escaped James' throat, and when I looked in his direction, his expression was blank.
"What is so important that the Beta wants to discuss with you right now?" She asked me, but her eyes were on him.
"I am afraid I have to see the king this instant, Luna. What I want to discuss with him is rather very important and cannot wait," Beta James told her, his voice tight.
"Don't worry my love," I kissed her on the forehead gently. "Just lie back on the bed while I discuss with him. I will be back before you know it."
I helped her rest back even though there was hesitation on her face. I covered her with the duvet and stepped out with James.
