Chapter 86 - The Luna He Rejected

A couple of weeks flew by, and it was finally the time for Diana and Bianca’s trial. They were charged with several crimes as the investigation uncovered a lot of felonies. My poor mother wasn’t the only victim. Diana had done tremendous damage to several people. Her desire for power was her main motive, but the things that she had done were too evil to be true.

Kaid told me about the letter that Alexander sent him, and even if we were skeptical at first, he had been of great help. In fact, he reported his father to the council and he was facing an investigation. From the information that I was given, he is detained in the council’s prison and even if he is telling everyone that he is innocent, the evidence given by Alexander was too strong for him to avoid punishment.

I was dressing up for the trial, but I didn’t know exactly what to wear. For me, this meant the closure that I had sought for a long time. My mother would be happy that her killer was finally found, and that her daughter’s name and reputation had changed.

Since I was a baby I have been referred to as the cursed one. The one that caused her mother’s death, the one that the Moon Goddess had punished. Later on, we found out that I was cursed indeed, and the worst part was that it affected my life completely. I didn’t have a choice. I couldn’t decide if I wanted my mate or not. Kaid was an asshole that had caused me pain, and I didn’t want him in my life. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a choice.

When I saw him in the office that day and heard that he wanted to reject me, I just felt my blood boil. I wasn’t going to let him humiliate me, and if I had to die, at least I was choosing my fate, not him. Thankfully, that was a wake-up call for him, and he changed into the man that I now knew.

While I was putting on my black pencil skirt, I heard the door open. Kaid entered the room with a huge bouquet of lilies. I didn’t have a favorite flower, so he tried to vary the gifts that he gave me.

“What is this for?” I asked while I giggled. He could make me feel like the happiest girl alive with a simple gift like some flowers.

“This is for being a strong, intelligent and wonderful woman. Today is stressful for you, so I wanted to take your mind off things.” He gave me a kiss on the cheek while he took my hands to put the bouquet on them. I brought the flowers close to my nose to smell the aroma. It certainly helped with my racing nerves.

“Thank you, you always think of ways to make me feel better.” It was the truth, he has changed so much that if someone had told me two months ago that he would change into the man of my dreams I would have called that person crazy.

“Anything for you love. I don’t want to pressure you, but we have to leave in ten.” He gave me the blouse that I wanted to wear, but before he put it in my hand, he caressed my clavicle with his other one.

The sparks flew everywhere, and I had to suppress the moan that wanted to scape my lips. Our lust was palpable in the air, and I could tell he was also horny because his eyes became darker. My breath was shallow, and I felt hot all over.

That was until I felt the intrusion of the mind link. And it was not other than my dear friend Silvia.

“I don’t want to know what the fudge is going on there, but you and Kaid need to get down ASAP.” She closed the link without letting me finish. I groaned in frustration, I wanted and needed him, but it was true, we needed to go.

“I hate to be the party popper, but-.”

“I know, Andrew mind linked me as well.” He sighed and gave me the blouse, so I could put it on. “I’m going to wait outside or else I'm going to rip off your clothes.”

I blushed at his remark, and finished dressing quickly. I walked out of the room to find Kaid leaned against the wall. He grabbed my hand, and we descended the stairs to where everyone was waiting for us.

Silvia, Andrew, Esmeralda and Michelle, were all ready to accompany us to the trial. Stephan and his mate left to go to their pack and couldn’t join us as they were still working on some problems with the pack.

“Ready?” Silvia asked me, to which I nodded to let her know that we could leave now.

The drive to the council wasn’t that long, but for me, it took forever. My heart pounded inside my chest, my nerves were all over the place. For some reason, I felt that they could go free, even with all the evidence against them. That was a fear that I had inside me.

When we arrived, I could see the amount of people that had gathered outside the council. Reporters were everywhere, trying to get whatever piece of information that they could. The guards had to help us get inside because as soon as we left the vehicle they came as moths to the light. They tried to bring their microphones close to us as they asked several questions.

We finally entered the building, and it was nice to have some quiet.

“I could have used my magic to keep them away from us.” What Esmeralda said was true, but we were trying to find a way for wolves and witches to be on good terms. She was going to become our Gamma, but there had been a little bit of backlash about that decision.

The main reason people were so against her new role in the pack was because she was not a wolf, but she was mated to one, meaning that she could assume any position in our pack according to our law. I guess people never imagined that there could be a time when different species were mates, and now that it was happening everyone was afraid.

“You know we can’t use magic.” She rolled her eyes at me, even though we had explained to her the reason why we needed to go slowly with the magic, she thought it was stupid.

I hadn’t revealed that I am a mixed breed, we wanted to visit my mom’s previous coven after all of this was dealt with. After I have the information and know exactly what it meant to me, we will hold a meeting with the Elders. We had to tell them about us being Lycans. They weren’t too thrilled with the idea, but there was nothing they could do. I spotted the ones that had allied with Hunter to kill me before Kaid and I could mate. I told Kaid, but we had no evidence against them, so they had to wait.

We waited until an Elder appeared, showing us the way to the courtroom. They were waiting for two more witnesses on behalf of the defense, but if they didn’t arrive in the next ten minutes, they would start without them.

We were seated in the front, at the side of the prosecution. Alexander was there as well. I wasn't surprised because he was one of our witnesses. He has changed a lot during this time, and I was glad. For years, he followed the example of a cruel Alpha, and his pack suffered because of it. Now, he had joined Kaid's mission to change the laws, and his pack now didn't have slaves anymore. It was a great step for him and his pack, but it was clear that he wanted a Luna.

"Hello Alexander." I said to him. He looked at me and I could hear his thoughts clear as day.

"If I hadn't fucked it up she would be my Luna, how could I be so stupid." Every time we had talked it was the same thing inside his mind. Guilt. I hoped that Selene could give him another mate, as that could calm his heart, but that depended on her.

"He is going to find one soon." Really? I wished I could tell him, but that would uncover our secrets.

"Hello your majesties." He said to both Kaid and I. Kaid hugged me closer to him, his Alpha nature showing his protectiveness towards me.

Before we could exchange more words, the judge came, and we were told to sit down. It was time. The trial had started. Diana and Bianca came out, they were both in cuffs, and their clothes looked torn out. When they saw me, it was clear that they hated me, they even growled at me, earning themselves a reprimand from the judge.

"Everyone, we will start the trial with Diana Summers. Take a seat, and guard, please take Diana to the stand." Once she was in place. They read her rights. They also made her swear under a potion prepared by Esmeralda. If she tried to lie she was going to feel an immense pain.

The trial was long, each question she answered was worse than the last one. Apparently, she had been obsessed with my father since high-school, and she had harmed several wolves to get to my father. She even killed an omega that my father liked because she was jealous. My mother wasn't her last victim either. My father wasn't completely happy with her, and had several lovers, who mysteriously disappeared after a while. She even described how she had tortured a she-wolf for days because my father wanted to leave her.

It was no mystery why Bianca was so deranged as well. She had learned and inherited those traits from her mother. My father wasn't in court, but he could read all his wife had done on the news. Would he be surprised? Probably, but the fact that he wasn't here wasn't speaking so highly of him.

"In all my years of being a judge I've never seen a person as evil as you. You messed with a fated bond, killed several she-wolves, killed a high-raking member, and even used dark magic to do so. Regarding all your crimes, I sentence you to fifty lashes with a silver whip, after which you will be sentenced to death by beheading. Taking into account what you did, including the mistreatment of our current queen, this is a merciful act."

Diana started yelling like crazy, she tried to reach me to hurt me, or probably even kill me, but the guards stopped her.

"I'm going to kill you bitch! You should have died with your good for nothing mother. I'm going to kill you, I swear!" She was dragged from the room while she yelled. I sighed in relief, she was finally dealt with. She didn't have a single person that testified for her, showing her evil nature.

Now it was Bianca's turn, and for some reason I felt uneasy.

"Please guard, escort Bianca to the stand." The guard approached Bianca, but I saw the grin that formed in her face. She looked at me and smiled. Fuck! I knew this wasn't over.

She stood up with one of her hands now free from the cuffs, she took something she had under her shirt and then an explosion was heard.
