Chapter 16
Sophie hung up the phone then began to cry. She was questioning the same thing as Jake was why she did not want to answer marrying him. Being engaged to Jake was what she was wanting, as well as what she had hoped for; now that he asked her, and wants to set a date she is trying to stall. Thinking about what Jake had said, why did she make it sound as though she wanted it to be over? What was really stopping her from setting the wedding date, or even accepting to marry Jake? Damn, what is really stopping me? Was it the thought of his kids, her kids, and the two of them all being together? Seven kids is a lot to deal with. She does love him. Suddenly she caught herself wandering back to when she married Alex. She was happy then too. Why should this time be any different? She deserved to be happy. What if someone better than Jake come along? Would she do the same thing to him? Of course she would she is a sex crazed bitch.
“Mom, are you alright? I heard you crying down the hall. Is there anything I can do to help? Asked Kay-Leah in a sarcastic voice, with a smirk on her face, thinking to herself this bitch deserves everything she is given, she ruined our family over a guy who is just using her. I need to tell her but I won't, she deserves to be hurt the way she hurt dad.
“Oh Kay-Leah, I am so confused, but no there is nothing you can do. This is all my decision and I hope I am doing the right thing. I had thought it would be so easy to leave your dad, divorce him then pick up where we left off and start over with Jake. I am now finding out it is just not as easy as it sounds. A big part of me loves your dad, after all we do have the three of your kids together, yet a big part of me totally hates him. Jake wants to get married when he comes home in four months. I almost made it sound as though I refused to marry him and wanted out of this new relationship. What do you think I should do? I want to know the truth. Do not try to hide what you think; this affects your life as well as mine. Tell me honestly Kay-Leah?”
Why would she care what I feel? The man is not my boyfriend, he is not in my life, I have a father, do not need another one. “Well mom, honestly, it is o your life. You have to do what will make you happy. Jared and I were talking earlier; we decided that Jake is not so bad.” Kay-Leah did not care at this point if her mom was happy or not, she was just telling her what she thought her mom wanted to hear. “Go ahead; marry Jake you do deserve to be happy. I know dad put you through hell, which you did not deserve.” You did deserve to be put through hell you selfish bitch. “Now he does not even care about us kids, he does not even come to visit us anymore. That of course hurts us as his kids. Tell me something mom, how could you still love dad and claim to love Jake?”
Sophie had to think about that one, as she was thinking she began to cry again. “I really do not know Kay-Leah. A part of me just still loves your dad and I guess I always will love him. Maybe I feel sorry for him, I do not know why, I just do. AS far as him not coming to see you and your brother and sister, I wish knew how to answer that one, but I am not him so I do not really know what to say. Even he cannot explain that one, all he says is either he does not have time, or that it hurts too much to see you three and know that he has to leave. Thank you though Kay-Leah, I think you may have helped me to make up my mind. I think my choice about what to do with Jake has been made.”
“So tell me, what do you plan to tell him? Are you going to marry him?” Kay-Leah had known that her mom would marry Jake, as well as knowing what Jake was up to since she had been at Jewels one night when she had talked to Jake and heard everything that was going on and why.
Sophie just stared at Kay-Leah, wanting to slap her for being so sarcastic, but she knew that it would not help any. “As if you really care. But, yes I think I am going to go ahead and tell him yes. He wants to get married when he comes home in four months, then he wants us to go back with him to California for a few weeks. Honestly, I think it would do us all some good to get away for a while and see something other than the same shit day after day. In the event that you are pregnant I am sure that you will be fine traveling. We will all just have to deal with it.”
Kay-Leah just gave a mean look to her mom, knowing what she knew she wanted to bust Jake out, but she kept her mouth shut, she deserves to be hurt. “Thanks mom, I really hoped you would see things my way. Have you told Jake or Dad about me possibly being pregnant? Wait let me guess you want me to do it since it is me that was stupid right?”
“I did tell Jake I thought you were pregnant, that we would know the results when you go to the doctor tomorrow. Your dad on the other hand, well, I am leaving that one up to you. I am going to tell him he needs to make arrangements to free up some time from his oh so busy schedule and try to spend time with his kids.” If only she could make that one happen. She hoped she could especially now.
