Chapter 11

As soon as Sophie pulled into the driveway the car had barely stopped when Heather jumped out of the car and ran into the house crying. “Daddy, do not leave us, mommy did not mean it, she said she is sorry, please do not go, do not leave us, please daddy.”

“Heather, calm down, I love the three of you very much, I am not going anywhere, not right now anyway, calm down. I am going to leave soon though your mommy and I cannot live together anymore; we need to be apart for a while. I promise to come see the three of you often, take you out for dinner and to see a movie, or even to spend the night at my house. Whatever you three want to do.”

Alex kept packing while Heather clung to his arm. Tears stinging his eyes as he looked at Heather. He wondered what he would do not seeing her little face every day. He knew he would miss her most.

“Heather, let go of you dad, go to your room. I need to talk to him.” Sophie said crying. “Heather, let him go, get to your room now.”

“I love you daddy.” Said Heather, “I love you to Heather, now go to your room; I will be there shortly to give you more hugs and kisses. I need to talk to your mom first though.”

“Alex, I am really sorry that things have to be this way. But, it is the best thing for all of us. Here is $1,000 to get you started. It should pay your first month’s rent, and keep you going for a little while, with your pay checks. I mean you do still have your job to fall back on.”

“Thanks Sophie, please take good care of them, those kids are all I have left in the world, and they are my whole life. I will be by to see them when I can, and of course I do plan to take them on weekends now and then. I was sort of hoping that we could still have sex on the weekends when I come by; at least you can do that much for me.”

“Really Alex, come on, you know I will take care of those kids. I am all about them, and their needs no matter what you or anyone else thinks. I would not hurt them. As far as us having sex, dream on, I do not think so.”

“Have you told them about Jake yet? I figured maybe you should at least tell them sooner or later so they are not taken by surprise with anything else.”

“No, I have not told them yet. I will when the time is right, right now they really do not need to know about him. Not anything more than they know already.”

“Well, if you change your mind, I will be at my mom’s until I find a place that I can afford and that I like. I will be waiting for you and hoping that you realize that you are wrong that we belong together. I will always love you. Just call me. I am going to say good-bye to Jared and Kay-Leah, and then I will be moving along.”

“Jared, I want you to know, I love you, and now that I won’t be here you are the man of the house. You listen to your mom; I will visit as often as I can. You take care of your mom and sisters for me.” Alex hugged Jared then left his room.

“Kay-Leah, since you are the oldest you make sure and help your mom keep the house clean, does the laundry and helps her out making dinner, do not cause her any unneeded problems. I love you and will see you as soon as I can.”

“Dad, really, is you sure that you have to go? Why don't you just stand up for what you believe in and tell mom that you two are going to work this out come hell or high water, you do not want to give up. Dad really, mom is making a mistake, she thinks I do not know about Jake but, of course I do, I have heard the conversations between mom and home wrecker Jewel, as well as the conversations between Jewel and Jake. Dad really Jake does not love mom, he told Jewel that she owes him since he did her a favor, and that she needed to make sure that she did not let mom walk away. He needs a place for him to raise his boys, and that mom is so stupid she was the best target for him to hit. He even said that mom is not what he normally goes after that she is not his type, she is fat, and ugly, but he is doing what he has to do.”

“Kay-Leah really, I know that you do not like Jake and I of course know that you are wanting your mom and I to stay together but, you do not need to make up lies for it to happen. That is just not right.”

“But, dad, I am not lying. I am telling the truth. I heard Jewel, and Jake talking, he said all that. I do not trust either one of them anymore. He has something on Jewel I know that or he would not be threatening her like that. Of course she does deserve what she gets, but I did not say that.”

“Kay-Leah, just do me a favor and keep your eyes and ears open and do not say anything. If Jake is making threats on Jewel then it must be something that she deserves, she is a bitch, but, she would never hurt your mom or you three kids, which is not like her, at all.”

“Really dad, do you have to go now? I have a bad feeling about this. I do not think it is going to go well at all.”

“Yes, I do, your mom and I are not Seeing Eye to eye at all anymore. She does not even want to try. She said she needs to move on and give this other thing a shot. All we do is fight, there is nothing left for us anymore, we tried, we failed, and there is nothing left to do, except go our separate ways, and sees where life takes us.”

“Bye dad, I love you. Please, be careful and call us often.” Kay-Leah said as she hugged her dad.

“I plan to try later to get your mom back, but of course I will have to hit her when she is down and out if what you say is true, that will not be too long at all. It will be a while though. At least then she and I can both sort out our feelings and she can learn that you can now have your cake and still eat it. This is best for all of us involved. You kids do not need to hear all the arguing and fighting all the time. It is not good for any of us.”

Alex had tried to avoid going back by Heathers room as she was still lying on the bed crying helplessly. He tried to leave before she saw him. Of course she was the youngest and understood less than the other two, so it was the hardest on her. It tore him apart to just have to leave her as he did. Alex walked out with tears in his eyes, as the children watched him leave the house through the window. They all three looked at each other and then went their own separate way to their rooms.
