CHAPTER 167

CHAPTER 167
THIRD PERSON'S POV
THE ARCHITECTS OF FOREVER

The peace that settled over the Kinsley estate was a living, breathing thing. With the war over, the business of building their future began in earnest, and at its heart was the most deliberate construction of all: their marriage.

It started one evening, a week after the foundation meeting. They were in the sitting room, a fire crackling in the hearth. Cassandra was reviewing a contract on her tablet, Killian was ostensibly reading a financial report, and Adrian was asleep upstairs.

Killian closed his report and looked at her, the firelight catching the gold in her hair. "We never really planned a wedding, did we?"

Cassandra looked up, a slow smile spreading across her face. She set the tablet aside. "No. We planned a merger. A defense strategy. A future for Adrian. But a wedding... that got lost in the trenches."

"I think it's time we found it!" He said softly, moving to sit beside her on the sofa. "I want to plan our wedding, Cassie. Not a corporate event or a society spectacle. Our wedding."

Cassandra smiles brightly and nods her head as she gets up to move beside him and hugs him tightly.

The following weekend, Killian's parents, Nicholas and Emily King, arrived at the mansion, bringing with them Killian's younger sister Elena. The Kings represented successful, self-made wealth, and had watched with growing admiration as their once-carefree son transformed into the devoted man before them.

"We brought champagne and Elena's famous lemon tarts!" Emily announced happily as she kissed both Cassandra and Killian on the cheek. "You'll need the sugar for the planning headaches."

The sunroom had been transformed into a command center. Their friends arrived throughout the morning— Julian with his ever-present legal pad, his twin Juan who immediately started sketching layout ideas, Levi with a case of wine "for inspiration"

And Alexander gently helping his very pregnant wife Isabella settle into the most comfortable chair. Lena and Daisy arrived last, arms full of bridal magazines and fabric swatches.

"Okay everyone!" Killian said, standing at the head of the table with Adrian beside him. "First question, venue. Any ideas?"

"The Plaza?" Nicholas suggested, ever the businessman. "We could secure—"

"Nope!" Killian and Cassandra said in unison.

"Too impersonal." Cassandra explained gently. "We're thinking somewhere that means something to us."

"The gardens here?" Emily suggested, looking out at the estate grounds. "They're absolutely breathtaking."

Adrian tugged on Killian's sleeve. "We should get married where we live. So it's our home wedding."

The simplicity of a child's logic settled it. "Right here." Cassandra said, her eyes meeting Killian's. "Where we became a family."

Over the next week, the planning revealed the new family dynamics. Nicholas King, though initially focused on logistics and scale, found himself unexpectedly emotional when discussing who would give Cassandra away.

"Richard should do it." Nicholas said firmly during one planning session. "The man who's been her family all these years." The respect in his voice was genuine, and Richard, standing at attention near the doorway, gave a barely perceptible nod of gratitude.

Emily and Elena threw themselves into the planning with delighted enthusiasm. Emily, who had worried for years about her son's lack of direction, watched with tears in her eyes as Killian carefully considered flower arrangements with Cassandra.

"I never thought I'd see my son debate peonies versus garden roses!" She whispered to Cassandra during a break. "He's found his true self with you."

Elena, who was closer to Cassandra, became her enthusiastic partner in crime. "We need to find you the most stunning dress." She declared, but her tone was sly. "Something that will make my brother forget how to breathe."

The friends brought their unique talents to the process. Julian, of course, handled contracts with vendors with legal precision. Juan, an architect, sketched beautiful tent designs that blended seamlessly with the garden. Levi took charge of the bar and entertainment.

Alexander, protective of his very pregnant Isabella, ensured she was always comfortable while she offered elegant design suggestions. Lena and Daisy became Cassandra's shopping companions and sounding boards.

Isabella, rubbing her rounded belly, offered the most poignant perspective. "This wedding isn't just about you two." She said softly during afternoon tea. "It's about showing Adrian what love and commitment look like. It's the foundation he'll remember."

Adrian's role was central to every decision. During a cake tasting that included Nicholas, Emily, and Elena, Adrian was given the final vote on flavors.

"The chocolate one with the raspberry inside!" He declared after serious consideration. "But we should also have vanilla for people who are boring."

Killian laughed, ruffling his hair. "Chocolate-raspberry and vanilla it is."

The suit fitting became a family event. Nicholas, Killian, and Adrian all got measured together at the tailor's. Standing there in his new suit, Adrian looked at his reflection, then at Killian. "Do I look like a real Best Man?"

"You look perfect." Killian said, kneeling to fix his tiny tie. "The most important man after me."

The dress shopping was a gathering of the women. Emily, Elena, Lena, Daisy, Isabella, and even Camila joined Cassandra. When she emerged in a simple, breathtaking gown of ivory silk, the room fell silent, then erupted in happy tears.

"You look like a queen!" Elena whispered, hugging her.

"A happy queen." Isabella added, wiping her eyes.

But it was Camila who helped with the final buttons, her hands trembling slightly. "Oh, My Cassandra," was all she could manage.

Two weeks into planning, they gathered for a final meeting in the garden where the ceremony would take place. The entire "wedding party" was there— Nicholas, Emily, Elena, all their friends, Richard and Camila. They sat in a circle on the lawn as the evening light turned golden.

"So we agreed." Killian summarized, his hand in Cassandra's. "Ceremony under the oak tree. Reception in Juan's beautiful tent design. Family-style dinner." He smiled at his mother. "With both chocolate-raspberry and vanilla cake."

"Richard walking me down the aisle." Cassandra said, smiling at the butler who stood proudly nearby.

"Adrian as my Best Man." Killian continued, pulling the boy closer.

"Camila as my Matron of Honor." Cassandra added next.

"Julian and Levi as your groomsmen." Cassandra said.

"And Lena, Daisy, Elena and Isabella as bridesmaids!" Killian finished revising. "With Isabella having a chair of honor whenever she needs it."

That night, after everyone had left, Killian and Cassandra walked through the moonlit garden, tracing the path they would take as husband and wife.

"You know," Killian said, stopping under the oak tree. "I spent years avoiding exactly this. The planning, the family involvement, the... permanence of it all."

"And now?" Cassandra asked, leaning into him.

"Now I realize I wasn't avoiding marriage." He said, turning her to face him. "I was just waiting for you. For this family. For this life." He gestured around them. "This doesn't feel like an obligation. It feels like coming home."

In the quiet of their garden, with the sounds of their home around them and their future mapped out before them, they stood together, no longer two people planning a wedding, but partners already living the love they would soon celebrate with everyone they cherished.
