Chapter 42
Savannah's POV
Every race started training once they got the letters from my grandma. Some of them offered to join the war from its beginning, some of them said that they'd join when it was absolutely necessary. I've been waiting for Dalia's call since I woke up around 7 a.m. I didn't join the training session this morning. Then my phone rang.
“Good morning! I hope you have some great news for me.”
“Morning, Dalia! It depends on whether you leave my best friend alone or not.”
“A deal's a deal. Now, what did you discover?”
“That your mission is impossible to complete.”
“Let me be the judge of that.”
“Fine, fine. The person you're looking for is Prince Raphael's daughter. She can't leave Heaven because of the Queen's seal that forbids her from leaving and she doesn't have her powers.”
“Are you joking with me now? Prince Raphael disappeared from the realm decades ago. Nobody's seen him. How can he have a daughter?”
“All I know is that he was found along with his daughter. That's what my informant told me.”
“And who is your informant? I hope you didn't find some maid or something.”
“No, it's Lieutenant Ezekiel. I met him when they were looking for the Prince. We've become friends.”
“Then this has to be the truth. At least you were useful for something. Now, what does she look like and how old is she?”
“Ezekiel refused to disclose that information for safety purposes. I've told you everything he told me. I completed my part of the deal, it's your turn now. Leave Balckstone and Maddie alone.”
“I'm already on my way. You told me what I needed to know. I still hope you'll join me.”
“You know that I won't do that, Dalia. I don't know what your plans are, but I hope I won't have to kill you in the process.”
“It's cute, but once I'm done you won't be able to kill me. If you stay out of my way I might not end you, but if you try to stop me you won't live a second longer. If you change your mind, text me.”
“One more question. How are you planning to contact the princess?”
“Let me worry about that. Knowing how eager you are to stop me I won't tell you anything.”
With that she hung up. Deep down I hoped she'd tell me about her plans even though I knew them. She was still part of my family by blood. Sooner rather than later she'll reach out to me, asking me to join her. Right after I had lunch there was a knock on the door.
“Good afternoon, Princess! There's a letter for you.”
“Thank you! Do you know who sent it?”
“No, they only stated that you're the recipient.”
“Okay, thank you again.”
“Goodbye, Princess!”
“Goodbye!”
I had a feeling the letter was sent by Dalia. After I opened it I was right.
*“Dear Princess!
I heard about your seer abilities and I have to say, I'm impressed. I invite you to join me on a mission that'll change the world. With your abilities I'd be able to succeed. Of course, you wouldn't work for free. After everything you'll have a permanent place by my side as my second in command. In the envelope you'll find my phone number. After you've read the letter, tell me your decision. I can assure you I won't stop persuading you until you agree to join me on my mission.
Sincerely,
Dalia Russeau”
I couldn't use my phone number, because of obvious reasons. I needed a new number to contact her. I needed to talk to my grandmother regarding this. She knew about my plans and said she trusted my judgment. I opened a portal and stepped into the palace's living room. She was sitting in her favorite chair, drinking what probably was tea.
“Hi, grandma! Sorry to barge in, but I need a new phone number.”
“Hello to you too, dear! Why do you need a new number?”
“I got a letter from Dalia. She told me to contact her and tell her my decision. I can't use the number I have, she knows that.”
“Done, until then sit down and have tea with me. What's your plan now?”
“First of all, refuse the offer and then we'll see. I want to put off the war for as long as possible.”
“That's good. You can't disclose your whole identity until the last minute.”
“I know, but I'm still worried about how she wants me to join her. If she threatens someone what then?”
“That's something you have to decide.”
“If I say yes, will you let me go and remove the seal?”
“Not until the right time.”
“Then what's the point in telling me I have to make the decision? It doesn't matter if I can't leave.”
“You'll understand. Now, let's change the topic. How are things with Gabriel?”
“With everything going on we can barely talk. By the time evening comes we're exhausted and we fall asleep as soon as our heads hit the pillow. We talked about everything and we have a routine.”
“I'm happy to hear that you're giving him a chance.”
“Excuse me, my Queen, Princess! Here's what you asked for. If that's all, I'll be leaving.”
“Thank you!”
“Now, you have the number. I won't tell you what to do, I trust you. All I ask from you is to be careful.”
“I promise.”
And I intended to keep that promise. I couldn't afford being foolish. The whole supernatural world was depending on me and my decisions. When I put the card into my phone I dialed Dalia's number.
“Hello! Who am I talking to?”
“Hello Ms. Russeau! I'm Princess Rose. I got your letter and I have to decline your offer.”
“I'm not happy to hear this, Princess. I was hoping you'd say yes. Don't you want to be free? My informant told me that you cannot leave your realm.”
“I don't feel imprisoned. It's for my safety, because I don't have my powers yet.”
“What can I do to change your mind?”
“You can't do anything to change my mind. I don't even know you and what your plans are.”
“I can't tell you my plans until I know I can trust you. I'll contact you again soon. I hope until then you'll change your mind.”
Damn it! She just wouldn't budge. I was dreading that next phone call. I was sure she'd come up with something I wouldn't like. She was getting closer to the source of the dark magic day by day. The witch would find it soon and after that our days would be numbered. I needed to see another vision. For another two days nothing happened. I was reading a book in the afternoon when everything started rumbling. It was an earthquake or a heavenquake if that was even possible here. I ran out of the house, but everything was intact. As fast as the rumbling started it stopped. Without wasting any time I opened a portal to the palace. I wasn't the only one there.
“What was that, grandma?”
“Dalia found the source and connected to it. Now, there's no need for panic. She won't attack until she has you on her side, so we have time. From now on, we have to be in standby mode. The war can start anytime even if you don't join her. Nobody leaves their realm until the war starts.”
“Is there anything we can do besides waiting?”
“There's nothing to do, dear.”
