Rockets and Realisations

No one could really pin point what had made Ash move, but all of a sudden, she was like a different girl. Two days after Loki’s last visit, she left the clinic, heading back up to her and Micah’s flat, her hair flying behind her like a stream of fire and her eyes glowing violently, if that wasnt enough to make everyone move out of her way, the hellhound panting at her heels with his demonic red eyes and silent footsteps and the deadly fae knight, because there was no mistaking Blaze for anything else now dressed as he was in leather armour and loaded down with more weapons than anyone could ever know, and the warriors who were still well had taken bets, none were anywhere near close. The trio were cloaked in the dusk shadows as they moved like one through the pack lands, every wolf they encountered gave them a wide berth, crossing the street to avoid them even.

Ash lead the way up to the pack house and into the magically created room that housed the found books from the cellar. Power swirled in the air of the room, calling to Ash, pulling her own powers to her skin like lightening running through her veins. Shaddow instinctively took a position by the door, guarding them while they worked. Blaze sat on the floor in the corner, watching his princess in all her magnificence.

They worked for hours, days, the magic keeping them awake. Loki, Mrs Black and even Rhys stopped by, all trying to get Ash to sleep, and each summarily dismissed by either Ash or Shaddow. The Doc threatened to visit but it was always an empty threat, he was far too swamped in the clinic right now, just trying to keep the pack alive.

The young and the old were both being badly hit, Loki had made the decision that the children should be kept out of school until further notice, while there was no evidence so far to suggest that humans were susceptible to what they were now calling the fever, there was no evidence to say that humans wouldnt become susceptible.

Blaze was regularly to be found in a trance like state, accessing memories and information from his people, a trick he assured Ash that he could teach her when there was less time pressures, while Ash was often found cursing at some book or other for not behaving how she wanted it too.

“Grandmother, I need some help with these blasted books that you say I should be able to read… why dont they come with an index again? We have an urgent situation here and I need answers” Ash began, it had taken her days to reach the conclusion that she needed the help of someone with more experience in reading magically recorded information from blank books or sometimes books that don’t open and in one case, a bible.

“Ashlyn, how nice to hear from you my dear, oh me, I’m doing just fine thankyou very much. So sorry to hear that you are having trouble though, you sound rather stressed, perhaps you should come to the castle for a break?” Octavia replied.

Ash gave a sigh and looked up at the small window at her side that allowed her and her grandmother to talk as if they were in the same room. Octavia gave a small squeak. “Octavia, I do not have time for this. I am this pack’s Luna and they are relying on me now. I need to help my mate, my pack, these are my people too. So please, please, just tell me why these books are not giving me what I need.”

Octavia stuttered, a flush colouring her high cheekbones as she opened and closed her mouth rather like a fish in a bowl. “Well… well, I suppose your question may not be accurate or specific enough. What is it that you are looking for?” She said much more coldly.

“I need to know if this situation has happened before and how it was deal with. The wolves are sick grandma, Micah is sick, they are dying, and we cant fix it. I can’t find an answer, we can’t heal them, Octavia, it’s like he’s been disconnected from his wolf somehow, Micah I mean, I can’t feel Zander in him any more… they have a fever and a rash and seizures and they are unconscious and eventually they just die no matter what the doc does” Ash sighed and rested her head in her hands. “I don’t know what to do, but I need to do something”

“Ashlyn Faye! You will come back to the palace right now, it is clearly not safe for you in that pack! You will pack your bags right now and where is Blaze and Kit, why have they not dragged you back here already? They are meant to keep you safe! The only reason I have not sent a contingent of palace guards to watch you is that you have two of your protectors in place with you!”

Octavia ranted and raved on with herself in the same vein for several minutes before Ash shouted “Shut the fuck up for gods sake! Kit was a fake, he was lieing to me and you all along. He was involved in the attack that killed a child and my mates parents amongst others! He is currently in the dungeons. Blaze is helping me, because he is my protector, and that means that he helps me protect what is mine! This is my life and my pack! I will not abandon them when they need me the most! Now are you going to help me or not?!”

Octavia was finally silent. Archibald was the next person to speak, “Ash, do you need help with guards and patrols? I can arrange to have some of our warriors travel via portal.”

Ash let out a loud sigh, “Thankyou grandfather, I’m not sure how we stand there, I’ll get Loki to reach out if we need it. I just need to know how to make everyone better,” tears began to fill her eyes again as she spoke.

“You need to ask more specific questions most likely. But I still do not see why you couldnt do that from here, where it is safe and you will not get sick” Octavia began again.

“I am not leaving and that is that, I sat by Micah’s bedside for over a week and I have no symptoms! I seriously doubt that I am going to get sick sat in my office pulling my own hair out now just drop it” and Ash slashed her hand viciously through the window, effectively slamming the phone down on her grandparents.

The hours and days passed in a blur. Before she knew it, Ash had been locked in this room for a week, hardly eating or sleeping. Blaze had come across mention of something called Lupine eruption encephalitis, it seemed to fit. Both of them ran down to the clinic, the complex healing spell they needed to perform fresh in their minds.

Pushing through the crowded rooms to Micah’s bedside, Blaze began rapidly preparing a spell circle while Ash pressed a kiss to her mates forehead, ensuring him that they were going to make him all better.

Their space prepared and the spells components laid out ready on the table over Micah’s knees. They began their work. The spell would take atleast 3 hours to perform but they should see some improvement pretty might straight away if it worked.

The light show in the room soon drew an audience. The show of power giving people hope for the first time in weeks. This was going to be the end of it, the Luna had solved the problem, just like everyone knew she would and once the Alpha was away they would be able to call for help from the mages and the palace and get everyone else woken up too. The children would be safe. Everyone was safe again.
