Chapter 212 CHAPTER 212

Chapter 212 CHAPTER 212
Night in Mooncrest carried a different kind of silence.

It was not the peaceful quiet that came with rest, but the kind that wrapped itself around secrets, holding them close, hiding them from the world that slept unaware. The palace lights glowed faintly in the distance, but far from its walls, tucked deep within a stretch of forest owned by the crown, stood a secluded house - unremarkable to the eye, yet chosen precisely because no one would think to look for anything important there.

Liam Blackthorne stood just outside the house, his posture still, his senses stretched far beyond what could be seen. He had checked the area more times than necessary, but tonight was not a night for trust—not in others, not even in the guards who served under him.

Beside him stood Miss Blackwood.

She had not said much since he brought her out.

Her hands were clasped tightly together, her fingers trembling slightly as her eyes moved restlessly through the darkness ahead, searching… hoping. Every small sound made her shift, every rustle of leaves pulling her attention forward as though she could will her family to appear.

“They’ll come,” Liam said quietly, not looking at her, but sensing the storm inside her.

Blackwood swallowed, her voice barely steady. “What if they don’t?”

“They will,” he said simply.

And there was something in the certainty of his tone that made her fall silent again, though her heart continued to race.

Time stretched.

The forest breathed.

Then….

A faint shift in the air.

Liam’s gaze lifted instantly, his body going still in a way that signaled recognition rather than alarm.

From between the trees, figures began to emerge.

Alpha Reed walked at the front, steady and composed, his presence cutting through the darkness with quiet authority. Behind him, the man and his two daughters followed, their steps slow, their bodies weakened, but moving.

For a moment…

Blackwood did not breathe.

“My babies…”

Her voice came out in a whisper that trembled before it even fully formed.

The man turned sharply at the sound, his eyes widening in disbelief.

“…Elena?”

And then the distance between them disappeared.

Blackwood ran.

Whatever fear had held her together inside that prison shattered as she dropped to her knees before them, pulling her daughters into her arms with a desperation that could not be contained. Her hands trembled as they moved over their faces, their hair, their shoulders, as if she needed to make sure they were real.

“I’m here… I’m here…” she whispered, her voice breaking. “I’m so sorry… I’m so, so sorry…”

The older girl buried her face into her mother’s shoulder, her small body shaking as the tears finally came. The younger one clung to her tightly, as though afraid this moment might be taken away again.

The man stepped closer, placing a hand gently against Blackwood’s back, his own eyes glassy with emotion.

“We’re okay,” he said softly. “We’re here.”

For a moment, no one spoke.

Even the night seemed to pause, holding space for a reunion that had almost never happened.

Liam looked away briefly, giving them that moment.

Reed stood beside him, silent, his arms folded loosely across his chest, his gaze steady but softened in a way only those who knew him well would notice.

“You did well,” Liam said quietly, his voice low enough that only Reed could hear.

Reed exhaled softly. “We both did.”

There was no pride in it.

Just truth.

After a while, the reunion settled into something quieter, though no less emotional. Blackwood slowly pulled back, her hands still holding onto her daughters as if she could not bring herself to let go completely.

Her eyes lifted to Liam.

Tears still clung to her lashes.

“I… I don’t know how to thank you,” she said, her voice unsteady. “You didn’t have to - after what I….”

“I know why you did it,” Liam said gently, cutting her off before guilt could take root deeper than it already had. “And I told you before, you don’t have to carry that alone.”

Blackwood shook her head slightly, her lips trembling.

“I said terrible things,” she whispered. “About the princess… about her life… I didn’t mean them. I swear I didn’t mean any of it.”

Liam’s gaze did not waver.

“I know,” he said.

There was no hesitation in his voice.

And somehow, that made her break even more.

Her husband looked between them, confusion flickering briefly across his face.

“What is going on?” he asked quietly. “Why… why do we have to hide?”

Liam straightened slightly, his tone shifting - not colder, but firmer, more grounded in responsibility.

“Because whoever took you is still out there,” he said. “And they are not done.”

Silence followed.

“We believe,” Liam continued carefully, “that this was not just about you. You were used… to get to someone else.”

Blackwood’s expression faltered.

“The princess,” she whispered.

Liam gave a small nod.

“And if the person behind this realizes that you are no longer under their control, they may try again. Or worse—they may disappear before we can find them.”

The man tightened his hold on his daughters slightly.

“So what do we do?”

“For now, you stay hidden,” Liam said. “No one must know that you have been found. As far as the world is concerned, you are still missing… and Miss Blackwood is still in prison.”

Blackwood swallowed hard at that.

“And then?” she asked.

“Then we find the person responsible,” Liam replied. “And when it is safe, I will make sure everything is set right. Your name will be cleared. You will return to your work. And this….” he gestured faintly around them, “…. will end.”

Reed stepped forward slightly.

“I’ll take them to the safe house,” he said. “No one will trace it back to the palace.”

Liam nodded once.

“I trust you.”

Reed’s gaze held his for a brief moment.

There was something quiet in that exchange. Something steady. Unshaken.

Brotherhood.

As the family began to move, guided gently by Reed toward the waiting vehicle hidden further within the trees, Blackwood hesitated.

“Wait,” she said softly.

She reached into the fold of her clothing and pulled out a small, folded piece of paper, her fingers tightening slightly around it before she handed it to Liam.

“This is the note,” she said. “The one they left me… the instructions.”

Liam took it carefully.

“I thought… maybe it will help you,” she added, her voice quieter now. “Find whoever did this.”

Liam nodded once.

“It will.”

Blackwood looked at him one last time, gratitude and fear still tangled in her expression.

“Please… find them.”

“I will,” Liam said.

And this time…

There was no doubt in his voice.

Reed led the family into the night, their figures slowly disappearing into the darkness until even their scent began to fade.

Liam remained where he was.

Still.

Silent.

The note rested in his hand, light in weight, yet heavy with meaning.

The night around him felt different now.

Not quieter.

Sharper.
