Chapter 138 CHAPTER 138

Chapter 138 CHAPTER 138
The plains stretched endlessly before them, green and alive in a way the human world never quite managed to be.

Grass swayed in gentle waves beneath a sky that felt closer, brighter, as though the realm itself leaned down to listen. Wildflowers bloomed freely here—blue, gold, soft white - untamed and unafraid. The air tasted clean. Ancient. Restorative.

Lisa slowed her steps without realizing it, her fingers tightening slightly around Liam’s hand.

“I don’t think,” she said quietly, “I’ll ever get used to how beautiful this place is.”

Celia huffed softly beside her, tail flicking in quiet amusement. Neither did we, her presence seemed to say. Then, aloud, she added, “Never in a million years did I think you’d walk this realm as yourself. Not a projection. Not a shadow.”

Lisa smiled. “You and me both.”

She glanced sideways at Liam. “It has its perks, though. Dating the Warden of the realms.”

Liam laughed under his breath. “Careful. That title comes with responsibilities – and enemies? You’re sure you still want a warden for your boyfriend after what happened earlier?”

“More than ever, how else would I get to have spontaneous walks in other realms?” Lisa teased.

He stopped walking and turned slightly, eyes thoughtful as he took in the rolling fields. “You’re right. Why not make this our first picnic on another realm?”

Before Lisa could answer, Celia spoke. “That sounds perfect.”

She turned her head toward Kane, ears perked. “Are you up for a run?”

Kane paused, muscles tensing instinctively, tail lifting. His attention shifted between Celia and Liam, curiosity bright in his gaze.

“This is your moment,” Liam sent quietly through their bond. “Don’t waste it buddy.”

Kane snorted, a soft sound of disbelief drawing both Lisa’s and Celia’s attention. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“We share a body,” Liam replied, amused. “I know what you feel.  I know you like her – you’re just waiting for her to see you first. And I think she finally has, I can tell by how she looks at you.”

Kane’s ears tilted back, thoughtful. Then, without another word, he lowered his body slightly - an invitation.

Celia didn’t hesitate.

She surged forward, powerful and graceful, and Kane followed. The two wolves burst into motion, tearing across the plains in long, effortless strides. Joy could be felt in the movement.

Lisa watched them go, smiling. “Did that just happen? Is that the beginning of…”?

Liam squeezed Lisa’s hand. “I think it did.”

Celia glanced back briefly as she ran, eyes bright, then vanished over a rise.

Lisa and Liam walked on more slowly now, the quiet settling around them like a shared secret.

After a while, Lisa tilted her head. “I wonder what else your powers can do.”

Liam looked at her. “What do you mean?”

“The waterfall,” she said. “The way the wild responded to you.”

He considered that. Then, still holding her hand, he extended his free arm.

Light unfurled from his palm – gentle and warm.

The ground stirred.

Flowers pushed through the soil, blooming in soft spirals around their feet, petals unfolding as if they’d been waiting for this exact moment. Color spread outward, alive and luminous.

Liam looked at her. “Like this?”

Lisa’s breath caught.

She stepped closer, her voice lower now, slower. “Yes. Like that.”

It wasn’t excitement. It was invitation.

He leaned down and kissed her. The kiss was deep, lingering, full of everything they’d held back. The world seemed to soften around them, petals brushing their ankles, the air humming faintly with magic.

When they parted, Lisa smiled faintly. “They’re beautiful.”

“They’re nothing compared to you,” Liam said simply. “Nothing comes close.”

She laughed softly, cheeks warming. “That’s dangerous talk.”

“It’s true.”

Her hands rose to his chest, fingers finding the buttons of his shirt. “Do you remember,” she murmured, “when we said we’d wait? For the right moment?”

His breath slowed. “I remember.”

She leaned in, kissing him again as she spoke. “I think this counts as the right moment.”

The kiss deepened, unhurried.

Liam’s hand came up to Lisa’s cheek, his thumb brushing softly beneath her eye as if memorizing her face. She leaned into the touch instinctively, her breath catching when his forehead rested briefly against hers - an almost-pause, as though he were asking without words.

She answered by slipping her fingers beneath the open edge of his shirt, resting her palm against the warmth of his chest.

The world seemed to soften around them.

The flowers at their feet swayed though there was no wind, petals glowing faintly as if the magic responded not to his power now, but to their closeness. Light pooled low around them, gentle and forgiving, wrapping the clearing in quiet.

Liam guided her back slowly, never breaking eye contact, until the tall grass brushed against her calves. He followed, lowering himself with care, one hand braced beside her, the other still holding hers - as if letting go was unthinkable.

Lisa traced the line of his shoulder, then his neck, her touch exploratory but reverent. She smiled softly, breath warm against his skin.

“This feels…” she began, then laughed under her breath. “Like the world finally stopped shaking.”

Liam bent closer, his voice low. “It did. For me, it did.”

Their mouths met again, slower this time. Deeper. The kind of kiss that wasn’t searching, but settling -learning the rhythm of shared breath, the way one heartbeat gradually matched the other.

Time stretched.

They lay among the flowers, hands discovering familiar places with new meaning, every movement deliberate. Liam pressed his forehead to hers, murmuring her name like a promise. Lisa answered by pulling him closer, grounding him there with her presence, her warmth, her certainty.

Magic hummed faintly in the earth beneath them - not wild, not demanding.  It was only the witness to the magical moment shared by two loving hearts as they finally became one heart and body.

When they finally rested, wrapped in one another, the sky above them felt impossibly vast. Lisa’s fingers traced slow, absent patterns along his arm. Liam watched the light dim around them, not fading, just yielding.

There was no rush – the fear that had held them for days forgotten- replaced only by two beating hearts that were in love.

Only the quiet certainty that this moment - this choice - would stay with them long after the world demanded more again.

Far from them, Kane and Celia slowed at the edge of the woods.

They circled each other, playful at first, then gentler. Shoulders brushed. Tails swept the grass. Celia leaned into him, pressing her side against his in a gesture that meant trust.

They settled beneath a tree, the wild wide and open around them.

Kane lowered his head slightly. “Does this mean… there’s a chance between us too?”

Celia considered him. “I don’t know what the goddess plans. But what I’ve seen in you - and in your human - matters to me and to Lisa.”

She nudged his shoulder softly. “If the goddess chose us to be mates, I’d be glad.”

“And if she doesn’t? What if Kael remains your mate – what happens then?” Kane asked.

Celia met his gaze. “I don’t know… I might still choose you, I guess. But I can’t tell you for certain right now.”

“That’s all I need to hear. You’ve given me hope. I can’t ask for more.”

They stayed like that for a long moment, the future unwritten, but no longer feared.

By the time the sun dipped lower, the world felt lighter.

For once, no one was running.

And for a little while… the war waited.
