Chapter 66
Chapter 66
Amelia's expression instantly darkened, a flash of disappointment crossing her eyes, but she quickly put on a pitiful look again and said softly, "Okay then, William, I'm a bit thirsty. Could you get me a glass of water?"
William glanced at her and didn't refuse. He nodded, "Alright, wait a moment." With that, he turned and walked to the hospital room door, heading to the nurses' station to get some water.
As soon as William left the room, Amelia immediately pulled out her phone. Facing the doorway, she deliberately raised her voice with an intimate tone, "William, take your time, don't rush. I'm not that thirsty, you don't need to hurry!"
Just then, a nurse happened to pass by the door. Hearing Amelia's words, she stopped and walked into the room with a smile, saying to Amelia, "Miss, you're so lucky. Your boyfriend treats you so well, coming here to keep you company and getting you water. He's so thoughtful."
A shy smile appeared on Amelia's face. She didn't deny it, just lowered her head gently with a tender tone, "That's just how he is. He's always been good to me. After my accident, he's been so worried about me and comes to see me every day."
The nurse said with a smile, "I'm so jealous of you. Having such a great boyfriend who's handsome, thoughtful, and rich, too. You're really lucky."
Amelia felt triumphant inside, but kept up her shy appearance, saying, "You're too kind. He just treats me well, that's all."
Just then, William walked into the room carrying the water. He had just heard the conversation between the nurse and Amelia. His expression instantly turned cold, his tone icy without any attempt to hide it, "Nurse, you've misunderstood. I'm not her boyfriend. I'm just here to check on her."
The nurse froze, the smile on her face instantly stiffening. She looked awkwardly between William and Amelia, at a loss, "I... I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. I thought you two were a couple..."
Amelia's face instantly turned pale with embarrassment. She hadn't expected William to embarrass her like this, directly exposing their relationship in front of the nurse.
She quickly grabbed William's arm, her tone urgent, "William, don't say that. The nurse just misunderstood. Don't be angry..."
William forcefully shook off her hand, his tone cold, "Misunderstood? If you hadn't deliberately misled her, would she have misunderstood? Amelia, I'm warning you, there's nothing between us anymore. Don't do these pointless things, and don't mislead others into misunderstanding our relationship."
Amelia stumbled slightly when he shook her off, tears instantly welling up in her eyes, her voice full of grievance and unwillingness, "William, I didn't. I really didn't deliberately mislead her. I just... I just wanted you to be a little nicer to me. I just like you too much..."
"Liking someone isn't about possession or doing whatever it takes." William's tone didn't soften at all. "Amelia, I know you saved my mother. I'm grateful to you and will do what I can to compensate you. But I have no feelings for you whatsoever. Evelyn is the only one in my heart. I hope you understand and stop these useless efforts."
The nurse, watching them argue, felt increasingly awkward and quickly said, "I'm sorry for disturbing you. I'll leave now." With that, she hurried out of the room.
In the hospital room, only William and Amelia remained, the atmosphere cold and awkward.
Amelia looked at William's cold eyes, her heart full of unwillingness and resentment, but she didn't dare act out. She could only keep crying, her tone aggrieved, "William, I know I was wrong. I won't do this again. Please don't be angry, okay? Just stay with me a little longer, just a little while..."
William looked at her tearful appearance without any pity, only impatience, "I already told you, I have things to do and can't stay with you long. I'll have the butler arrange a professional caregiver to take good care of you. I'll cover all your medical expenses and nutrition costs, but don't call me anymore, and don't pull these little tricks. Otherwise, I'll immediately stop all compensation."
"No, William, I don't want a caregiver. I only want you with me," Amelia quickly grabbed his hand, begging desperately. "I know I did many things wrong before. I won't do it again. Please give me one more chance, okay?"
William forcefully shook off her hand, his tone cold, "Impossible. I've already given you many chances. You didn't cherish them yourself. Take care of yourself." With that, he turned toward the door without any hesitation.
"William, don't go. Don't leave me," Amelia struggled to get up from the bed, but because of her injuries, she couldn't get up at all. She could only watch William's retreating figure helplessly, tears streaming down continuously as she cried out, "William, I was wrong. Come back..."
William didn't look back or stop. He walked straight out of the room and closed the door, completely shutting out Amelia's cries.
Walking out of the room, William took a deep breath, the coldness on his face still not fading.
Meanwhile, Evelyn had already arrived at the company. She walked into her office, put down her things, and immediately threw herself into work.
As for William, after returning to the company, he remained restless, his mind full of thoughts of Evelyn. While handling documents, he kept spacing out, glancing at the time now and then, hoping it would be time to leave work soon so he could pick up Evelyn.
Soon it was time to leave work. William immediately gathered his things and quickly walked out of the office, driving toward Vitalis Pharmaceuticals.
He wanted to see Evelyn soon, wanted to see her.
Arriving at the entrance of Vitalis Pharmaceuticals, William parked his car and stood at the entrance, quietly waiting for Evelyn.
Before long, Evelyn walked out of the company entrance. Seeing William standing at the door, she paused for a moment, then quickly walked over, "Why did you come so early?"
William looked at her, his eyes full of tenderness, "I wanted to see you sooner, so I came early. Let's go, I'll take you to dinner. I know a really good restaurant with dishes that are all the light flavors you like."
Caught off guard by these words, Evelyn was clearly surprised, but still agreed.
