Chapter 57
The Bingsols were equally thrown aback.
Myan let out the loudest scream and let go of her control of the strange water-fire ball.
It erupted and sent parts of it in all directions. Ash was smart enough to dodge it by an inch, but it drowned the Bingsols and instantly melted them.
The others that had been unaffected and had witnessed the instantaneous death knew there would be more where that came from and rather than try to attack, they chose to run for their lives instead.
But that did not stop Myan. She created more of these balls and continued after the fleeing creatures. She was still high up and the wind that had been dramatically playing, was aiding the direction of her water-fire balls, speeding things up and crashing against their furry souls.
Ash wanted to take cover, yet he couldn't stop watching the display of things.
Even after the Bingsols had left, Myan kept it up with the melting phase, changing her target to the mountain. She was going to burn it down.
"Myan!" Ash stood to his feet, drawn back to consciousness. He tried to stop her from ruining things further, but she seemed to be possessed by a different entity, frowning upon the unpleasant interruption.
She aimed her balls at him this time. Ash was faster, dodging at a speed twice as fast as she targeted. "Myan, stop! It's me, please…" the desperation and hurt were evident in his voice. He was a man that knew how best to use his strength to fight against any problems, but he felt helpless at the moment.
For a second, she paused. Realization seemed to crown her mind, but then, it was all gone. She progressed, heading towards the village.
Ash gasped, realizing she was headed for the people. They had already lost a huge number of their citizens, thanks to problems he created with his own hands, and it made no sense to further permit this nonsense. He wanted to go after her but there would be no way to catch up, he could tell…yet, running to the medicine man or any one for that matter would be a waste of time, and she would destroy so many people.
A part of him failed to admit it, but deep down, he was sorry and hated the rage he had displayed, why had he been adamant? The Tonners had been right, and they surely would have had a way to save his wife. His impatience had drawn the line and put him in trouble after all.
With a sigh, he knew that sacrificing a few lives for a solution, was the next move, maybe a wrong one, but it was the only available move.
He shifted into his Aeu, disregarding the pain from the heavy boulder that had stirred the beast in his wife, in the fastest way possible, he made his way for Vi stream, hoping it was not too late. He had a feeling it would be even darker than it was by the time he returned.
***
Tonsil was going through her hair, staring at the shattered mirror on the floor. She sighed for the umpteenth time and shook her head.
The room was dark and, but she knew that there was blood on her hands. She hadn't meant to vent her anger out on her favorite mirror, talk less of breaking it with a punch.
Ash, it was all his fault.
Maybe she had let her emotions get in the way of her mission. She had let herself fall for that adamant man during their months of stalking, but no Tonner would ever be truly happy if they were unable to complete their assigned mission. At least she tried to convince herself that was the reason for her unhappiness and not the fact that she would have no reason to stalk him anymore.
Ah yes, he could be having sex with his wife right now. It would have relieved her mood to watch that look on his face when he thrust in and out of Myan. Touching herself to the couple's intimacy. A small moan escaped her lips as she thought about it.
"Tonsil?"
Oh no. She was thinking too deeply about him, she was starting to hear his voice as if he were in the same room as her.
"You have to snap out of this, there are other missions,” she mumbled to herself.
"Tonsil." The voice came again, laced with worry this time.
"Ash?" She spun around to find a blue Ash swimming towards her. She backed away, hitting the wall with a small crashing sound that made her wince.
"You have to help me." He was talking fast. "Myan, I don't know what happened to her, she is, she's turning…I don't know. She's just…"
He stopped talking and broke into tears. "You warned me. You said it, it's happening,” he began to wail, placing his hands on her shoulders.
Tonsil failed horribly at hiding her shock, eyes wide and voice cracking. "It…it's okay," she said, placing his head on her shoulder.
"Please tell me there's a way out of it, and you can help me,” he pleaded. For the first time in a long time, he cried his eyes out, wailing like a child.
"How did you know where I was?" Reality dawned on her that he had come inside her room.
He pulled away from her shoulder and shook his head gently, I followed your scent."
Of course, his powers.
Tonsil swam back and forth; this was her last chance to help. She wanted to tell him how they could make Myan go unconscious for a month and suck her powers. She wanted to make him smile again but her jealousy couldn't go any further.
"The only way is to end her. The demon of fire in her is like a virus, it won't stop until it takes every life around her, before taking hers. What's the point of that if we can save more lives sooner?"
"No." Ash shook his head with trembling lips.
"It's for the best." Tonsil reached her hand out to him, "believe me."
"I can't! I would rather die first."
"Ash, listen to me!" Tonsil was getting impatient with every passing minute. "There's no other choice."
"If I take Myan's life, I'll take mine too." His tears began to deviate into blood. He was crying, hot, red blood.
A small gasp left Tonsil's lips, "Ash, you can't be serious.
"But if that's what the world needs, then come with me,” he concluded with the deepest frown.
