Alexander avoiding Greta
Greta stood in the bustling kitchen where she was serving food. It was warm from the smoked pork chops that were being served. The serving line separated the kitchen and the dining hall. The aroma of the hearty food wafting through the dining hall. It was full of deck hands and sailors, so it was loud from all the talking and commotion of everyone. It was a very festive room; everyone was happy to get a cooked meal with cold ale to drink.
She kept trying to talk to Alexander, but he was avoiding her like she did him a few days ago. Wouldn’t give her the time of day if she even found him. Randy was in line, Greta smiled at him as he moved up in front of her.
“I want a couple of those juicy chops.” Licking his lips, he had been up since 5 a.m. and was starving. Missing breakfast he wanted to eat. Greta picked up the two juiciest pork chops from the platter with her tongs.
Carl has been getting compliments from the sailor’s about Gretas talent dedication with her cooking skills. Coming from the palace she was privy to flavor’s that the simple people didn’t get to taste. They had pork chops they needed to cook before going bad and Greta wanted to smoke them and marinate in a special gravy.
“Hey Randy” Have you seen Alexander? I haven’t been able to talk to him. I guess he’s been busy? She asked him. “I haven’t seen him in the dining room either.”
“He has been really busy actually and he’s been eating in his room the last couple of days. Strangest thing, I walked by his room today and I heard him call out a woman’s name. I don’t know if he was sleeping, and he was talking in his sleep or if someone was in his room. Not quite sure but I know I wasn’t about to knock on the door to find out.” Winking at Greta as he pushed his platter a little closer for his food.
“Oh, he did?” I bet he was thinking about me and was talking to Simon. Maybe he regrets running away.
Randy watching her hold the pork chops with her tongs, the red juice dripping on his platter. His eyes not leaving, he was so hungry.
“That lady is fortunate to be remembered by Lord Alexander. It’s a compliment most don’t get from him to even remember her name. I know who he was talking about though, her name is Delilah, and she has fire red hair. I know I wouldn’t forget that one. She’s gorgeous. He said, thinking about that woman, shaking his head like he wanted her.
Her heart sank into her chest. She thought he was talking about her, but he wasn’t. Tatian dropped the pork chops onto his platter, juices flying across to Randy’s shirt as they fell. Greta then dropped the tongs, the metal clinking on the floor.
Greta tilted her head slightly, her veiled eyes turning towards Randy, A red-haired woman?
Carl noticed she dropped her tongs. Sprinting over to get a clean set, he walked over to Greta and handed her the clean tongues. “Try not to drop these, we don’t have another set clean. Greta turned her head to Carl, not saying a word, she just took the tongs from him and turned back towards Randy. Noticing something off about her, Carl walked over to Minty and whispered in her ear. Minty looked over at Greta, watching her react with Randy.
“Minty go talk to her before she starts slapping him with all my pork chops.” She looks pissed.
Damn that girl is giving me some strange looks, like she’s possessed or something.” Randy thought to himself watching Greta’s face. Why did she just literally drop the pork chops? Might as well just throw them at me I got enough juice on me anyway.
“So, you heard him say a woman’s name? a red-headed woman?” She asked Randy, wanted more clarification than anything.
“Uh, yeah, her name is Delilah she has red hair.” Going from he does care because he’s thinking about me to no he’s not thinking about me he cares about another woman. This definitely throws a curve ball in my game.
Minty walks over to her, “Hey, you okay?” Looking at Greta then Randy. Randy just shrugs his shoulder’s “Hey man, I have no clue what’s wrong with her, I just want to eat my food not wear it.” Picking up his platter he walks over to a table and sits down to eat.
She slowly looks at Minty, “No, I’m not fucking okay. I’m pissed as hell.”
“sooo, do you want to pray about this issue?” Minty asked Greta
“No, I don’t want to pray, I don’t want to do anything except throw something or hit something. I’m pissed.”
“Okay, settle down. Just go up on the top deck and get some fresh air. Breath deeply and calm down. We can’t have expensive food thrown or you taking it out on the sailor’s.”
Throwing down her towel, she ripped off her smock and stomped out to go get fresh air. The cook breeze blew across her body, soothing her anger. Leaning against the railing, she lowered her head watching the water splash against the ship. Listening to the few Deck hands that were still working and not eating talk to each other. This is being harder than she thought it would. She felt a pang on loneliness in her chest. Thinking about her previous life once again, her dad the King, her sisters. Does she have any nieces or nephews. If she did they would never get to know her. Everyone knows that she was poisoned and died. She wondered if her father the King regretted making her Minty that old cruel man, probably not. He wasn’t the nicest to her mother. Its always a marriage for power when it came to the royals.
