32_ Freaking witch

Dylan carried Sabina into the house and laid her gently on the couch. His face was a storm of emotions—worry, anger, and frustration all rolled into one. I followed him inside, still trying to wrap my head around what had just happened with Hannah.

The silence was deafening as we waited for Sabina to wake up. I paced the living room, my nerves fraying with each passing minute. Dylan sat nearby, his gaze glued to Sabina, a mixture of suspicion and impatience in his eyes.

Finally, after what felt like hours but was probably just one, Sabina gasped awake. Her eyes flew open, and she bolted upright, her breathing ragged.

Dylan didn’t waste a second. “Good, you’re awake,” he said, his voice sharp.

Sabina blinked, her gaze darting around as if trying to remember where she was. “What happened?” she asked, her tone groggy and confused.

I stepped forward, trying to keep my voice steady. “It’s about Hannah. She did something—something none of us expected.”

Sabina’s brows furrowed. “What do you mean?”

I quickly explained everything that had happened—Hannah's confrontation, and her shocking power to incapacitate Sabina. Sabina’s expression shifted from confusion to surprise, and then something else I couldn’t quite place.

When I finished, Dylan jumped in, his frustration boiling over. “Why didn’t you tell us about the other werewolves?” he demanded, his tone accusatory.

Sabina looked genuinely baffled. “What?”

Dylan’s jaw tightened. “You heard me. Why didn’t you tell us they were other werewolves still out there?”

Sabina shook her head, her expression incredulous. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Dylan took a step closer, his voice rising. “Don’t lie to me, Sabina. What else are you hiding?”

Sabina shot to her feet, her tone equally sharp now. “Nothing! I don’t know anything about other living werewolves! I thought Katrina was the only one left, just like you!”

I watched them, my heart racing as their argument escalated. Dylan turned to me, his eyes searching mine as if asking me to confirm whether she was lying. I focused on Sabina, trying to sense the truth, but her rapid heartbeat wasn’t much help. She’d been on edge since waking up, so I couldn’t tell if it was just the residual shock or if she was actually lying.

I stared back at him silently, feeling helpless.

"What about the prophecy? Hannah mentioned a new prophecy about me being a savior," I asked Sabina. Once again, her face twisted in confusion.

"I don't know anything about that," She said.

Dylan’s frustration boiled over. He slammed his hand against the arm of the couch, the sound echoing through the room. “Bullshit!” he yelled. “You’re a freaking witch! You’re supposed to know things like this!”

Sabina didn’t back down. She glared at Dylan, her voice just as fierce. “I’m not all-knowing, Dylan! I only know what’s revealed to me, and nothing about other werewolves or a prophecy has ever been revealed!”

Dylan ran his hands through his hair, his jaw clenched tightly. Then, in a sudden move, he leaned in close to Sabina, his voice low and threatening. “I haven’t told you this before, but If Katrina dies because of this,” he growled, “you’ll share the same fate.”

Sabina’s eyes darkened, her lips curling into a snarl. “Don’t you dare threaten me, Dylan,” she snapped, her voice icy.

“Stop it! Both of you!” I shouted, my voice slicing through their heated exchange. They both turned to look at me, the tension still crackling in the air.

I sighed, trying to steady my nerves, and sat down beside Sabina. “Sabina,” I began gently, “are you still willing to help me?”

Her expression softened slightly, and she nodded. “Of course,” she said firmly.

I nodded back. “Okay.” I hesitated for a moment before continuing. “Hannah mentioned a witch named Talia. She said Talia was the one who bound the werewolves in their wolf forms for years. Do you know who she is?”

Sabina’s reaction was subtle but telling. Her eyes widened for the briefest of moments before she quickly masked her expression. “No,” she said, shaking her head. “I don’t know who that is.”

But her heartbeat told a different story. It spiked sharply, betraying her.

I didn’t respond immediately, my focus still on her body language. “Can you find out who she is?” I asked carefully, watching her closely.

Sabina hesitated but then nodded. “Yes,” she said. “I’ll look into it.”

I forced a small smile. “Thank you.”

Without another word, Sabina stood up, smoothing her dress. “I’ll be on my way, then,” she said, her voice clipped.

We watched her leave, the door clicking shut behind her.

Dylan turned to me, his frustration bubbling over again. “Are you taking her side now?” he asked. "You're the one who didn't trust her."

I sighed, running a hand through my hair. “No, I’m not,” I said firmly. “I still don’t trust her, but I’m playing her game now.”

Dylan’s eyes narrowed. “You think she’s lying, don’t you?”

I nodded. “She is. About Talia, at least. But if she’s willing to ‘find out,’ then maybe we can use her to get the answers we need.”

Dylan stared at me for a moment before sighing heavily. “I don’t like this,” he admitted.

“Neither do I,” I replied. “But we don’t have a choice.”

The room fell into a heavy silence, the weight of everything pressing down on us. The prophecy, the werewolves, Sabina’s lies—it was all too much.

I sighed heavily, leaning back against the couch and closing my eyes for a moment. Every muscle in my body felt tense, as if I were a tightly coiled spring ready to snap. I wished, more than anything, for just one day where I didn’t have to deal with prophecies, lies, or the overwhelming weight of being “the last she-wolf” and whatever that even meant.

But no, life wasn’t going to give me a break. Not today.

Dylan sat beside me, his presence as steady as ever. I could feel his gaze on me, and when I opened my eyes to look at him, I caught the faint lines of concern etched into his features. He was always trying to be the strong one, carrying the weight of everything alongside me without ever complaining.

“I’m doing everything I can, Katrina,” he said softly, breaking the silence. His voice carried a tone of reassurance that I so desperately needed.

I tilted my head, watching him closely. “I know,” I murmured. “I just... it’s a lot.”

He nodded, his jaw tightening for a moment before he added, “I already have someone looking into Sabina. We’ll figure out what she’s hiding, I promise.”

Relief washed over me like a cool breeze on a sweltering day. Just knowing that Dylan was taking action, that he wasn’t just letting Sabina’s lies slide, made me feel a little lighter. “Thank you,” I whispered.

He reached for my hand, his touch gentle but grounding. “Come here,” he said, his tone soft and inviting.

I hesitated only for a second before shifting closer to him. His arms opened, and I leaned into his chest, resting my head against his shoulder. The tension in my body began to fade.
