Chapter 98 Warlock
Chapter 98 Warlock
Zyle.
Spending money had never been so worth it.
At first, I had stalked her for the purpose of the clan, but now I stalked her for the purpose of my heart.
When I was sure the box and flowers were delivered to her, I decided to head home.
I still smelled faintly of her vanilla scent.
A scent I hadn't registered to be so alluring.
But something still confused me. I wondered what pulled me towards her dorm when I felt the deathly bite of the aphrodisiac, and why did the effects cool down with just her touch?
Those were the type of questions that never had answers and would often unfold as time passed.
I walked into my car and drove back to the pack.
I didn't wait to see Sasha, so I went to my fortress, believing that my beta guards would have already sent her away.
I was correct.
I took a long, soothing bath before walking to my office, trying to catch up with all that I had missed.
It was already evening by the time I got back to the pack, so I had to go through the pack matters immediately.
Another downside of being pack leader.
“Stephen.” I called.
“Alpha.”
“Fill me in,” I requested while working on the documents.
“Sure, Alpha.” Stephen cleared his throat as quietly as he could.
“Your Luna has been acting a little strange since last night. At first, she rushed back to the penthouse, then she ran out to the streets barefooted. After that, she had some visitors, including your brother…”
My movement with the pen in my hand stilled for a second.
“They… they…”
“No need for the details.”
“What other matters are there?”
“Your paintings…” He paused.
“Your paintings have been sent to a room here.”
My eyes widened a bit. I nodded.
“That's good.”
“One last thing, Alpha.”
“During the patrol yesternight, some of the border guards found a rope tying two fangs together. We don't know much about it yet, but the shaman confirmed it belonged to a werewolf.”
“Did you see the person who hung it there?”
“No, Alpha, but the shaman also said something…”
“Out with it.”
“He said… that was the footprint of a warlock.”
My brows furrowed.
“Warlock?”
But he was yet to be certain of it.
…
Ever since Stephen mentioned the warlock clan, I had not felt an ounce of peace.
Those magic-making plagues were good with one thing and one thing only.
Terror.
I looked outside the window, smoking a cigarette and letting my brain think of the best way to overcome this.
But deep down, I knew the tied fangs were simply a warning to us wolves that they were coming, and it was not going to be diplomatic.
What could you expect from a race that created wolfsbane?
They were a stubborn race that prided themselves on their ability to take down a nation with mere words.
That was the way they behaved, so why were they sending threats first?
I tossed the short stick and stomped on it.
What was their plan?
Could it be…?
No. They were not familiar with her…
Or were they?
I pulled out my phone and looked at the message I had sent her. She had read it but didn't reply.
Well, I didn't expect a reply now, not when she kept calling me sir.
How best was I going to keep her safe?
I was running out of ideas, and the only one I had in mind was not the type she would like.
It was the simple way out.
To take her away from here.
Both of us.
Keep her somewhere where even the greatest of warlocks wouldn't be able to sniff her out.
But Monroe liked her freedom more than she loved safety.
And I didn't want to pull her back into the mess Sasha saved her from.
Those memories she had forgotten may have haunted her sleep.
I massaged my temple, an unexplainable heat beginning to grow at the base of my tummy.
I ignored it.
“Ding.”
I looked at the screen, my eyes widening at every word.
I'm at the old cathedral.
I stared at the message long enough to get lost in it.
The next second, I snatched my car keys and walked out.
With a bunch of ranunculus in hand, I walked out of the flower shop and walked into a diamond shop.
A diamond keychain caught my eye, and I imagined her pretty legs adorned in something so shiny.
Beautiful.
“Give me two.”
The man stared at me like he heard double.
“Okay, sir. We'll get it ready for you immediately.”
“Make it quick. I don't want to be late.”
They packaged both of them for me, and I hopped into the car before hurrying to her.
I must have kept her waiting.
I rushed to the old cathedral.
I quickly parked and stepped out. The moon was bright in the sky, even though the cathedral was not so bright.
It gave off the ancient, haunted-house aura.
I walked into the cathedral, only to see her looking at what used to be an altar.
I walked slowly towards her.
“Ro…” I mean, “Ma'am.”
“You don't work in a coffee shop, do you?”
She asked. The question threw me off balance.
“Yes. I don't.”
She stood up and walked towards me.
“In that case, you have been stalking me.”
Well, yes, but that would sound bad if I told her.
“If you mean I have had my eyes on you, well, you are correct.”
“I got you something.”
I stretched out my hand to show her what I had shopped for.
She looked at them, her eyes lighting up for a while before darkening into the shade they previously were.
I didn't like when she was being careful with me.
“Why?”
I kept my hand outstretched, but she didn't move a muscle.
“Why are you getting me things like we had known each other before?”
“I want to.”
I really hadn't thought of the reason why I kept buying her things.
“That's not reason enough.”
“What reason do you want? I'll give it to you.”
She tilted her head to the side.
“You and your tongue.”
I never believed in flirting.
I was simply born with one purpose, and that was to protect the clan.
So flirting was new to me, even though I only said the first thing that came to mind.
She walked forward, collected the flowers and the box of anklets.
“Maybe we had known each other.”
My heart jumped.
“Or maybe we haven't. I don't know.”
“But you should have a solid reason why you got me those stuffs. And I have a reason. It's not a good reason as well.”
I looked around the dark, abandoned building.
“I wouldn't advise you to meet in a place like this with anyone else.”
“Will you hurt me then?”
“You know I wouldn't.”
“How would I know that?”
“You invited me here. That's a bigger reason.”
She peered at me.
“I…I…”
I stammered, my brows furrowing as a sharp pain jolted through my skull in a skull-crushing pain.
“Mmmph.”
I tried to stifle a groan.
The smug look on her face disappeared in an instant.
It was happening again.
