Chapter 21 Pushing Too Hard

Chapter 21 Pushing Too Hard
ZARA'S POV

Mira and I headed back to our dorm when the sky got darker. On entering the room, I sat on my bed, eyes staring at Mira, following every movement she made in the room. She wasn't saying anything, not that she said anything much while we were outside.

It annoyed me a bit, considering that we were all having fun out there and she just seemed to have this curious yet dangerously attentive to everything happening around her but not just in the mood to participate.

"Will you just spit it out already!" She said now leaning on the wall brushing her hands through her hair.

"What?" I questioned glaring at her.

"The question that's been on your mind for several hours that you won't let me breathe freely." She yelled angrily.

She seemed angry at someone, something. I didn't know. But I definitely wasn't the center of attention for whatever she got going on in her difficult life.

"It's nothing." I responded, not smiling or anything.

My face was in a firm line as I changed out of my school clothes.

I grabbed a robe by the center of my bed and hopped into the bathroom. I figured that I would respond to her when she was in the real mood to talk. She didn't seem like she wanted to have a conversation and I didn't have the energy to confront her about anything at that moment.

Then I heard it, a loud gutteral growl.

She was shifting. Her wolf was coming out. I was scared to stone in the bath. I didn't know what to do.

Before I knew it, the windows were opened and I didn't hear anything again from inside the bathroom. I quickly freshened up before stepping out to check what was going on. Apparently, Mira was no longer in the room, the windows were opened as I assumed making fresh air to bite my skin.

I shivered silently. I really hoped that Mira was okay and just maybe shifting would help her regain control of whatever situation she had managed to find herself in. I changed into a pair of pajamas and climbed on to my bed.

I removed a book from my backpack to go through whilst I waited for Mira but my body was too tired to still be awake.

I yawned uncontrollably. I kept stretching my body, looking for ways to not fall asleep just so I could be sure that Mira returned to the room safely. Before I knew it, I was sound asleep on my bed like a new pub.

"You should turn off the lights when you want.to sleep." I heard Luna say to me.

I jerked off my sleep almost immediately.

The chill air bit into my skin once again. I turned over to Mira's side of the bed.

"She didn't come back." I heard Luna say.

"Why are you in my head?" I questioned.

"Oh!! That's your fault." She responded softly, almost like she was expecting a bite from me.

I had no energy in me to tolerate her character this night. I looked outside the window to realize that the sky was pitch black with no sign of the moon.

"It's a dark night." She said.

I became fully alert. Since I packed into this room, Mira hadn't acted out of character. What had suddenly pushed her to changing into her wolf. I wanted to protect her genuinely on this very night.

But where would I start from to find her.

A few minutes later, Mira walks into the room through the window.

"You're still awake." She said.

"Yes, I was waiting for you." I replied.

"You didn't have to." She said nonchalantly.

"Mira.... Is everything okay?" I questioned.

"Mind your fucken business Zara. I'm not in the mood for this." She sneered.

Oops! That didn't go well for me. I just kept mute. Not ready to push anything. I covered up my duvet before snuggling deeper into my bed.

I wish Kai was here. Just maybe I won't have to think of anything whilst I inhaled his scent. Something was off with Mira and I didn't know what to do about it. I guess it bothered me this much because I had really gotten close to her and this was definitely not what I expected.

The following day, I woke up on a cheerful note. Surprisingly Mira was happy too.

"Hey... Get ready quickly.... Today's class is fun." She said.

She seemed like a whole different being.

That was so off considering how our conversations turned out yesterday.

"Mira... Are we good?" I asked.

"Yes... Why wouldn't we be good?" She replied cheerfully.

She had an odd aura to herself.

"Do you remember last night?" I asked.

"We came back to the dorm then fell asleep quickly." She replied.

That wasn't what happened. Mira woke up cheerful this morning. Everything seemed faked. She couldn't remember last night.

Why not?

I didn't have time to ponder on it at the moment before heading into the bathroom. I freshened up gently yet swiftly. I did a slight makeup before returning back to the walk in closet.

I picked a very simple uniform for today's class.

"What's the class about?" I asked politely.

"Find the trigger." She said smiling gleefully.

"How does that one work?" I asked.

"Too many questions Zara. Just get ready and let's move." She replied.

I walked up to her, sniffed the air around her before stepping into her space.

"You don't remember what happened last night?" I threw the question her way, again.

She didn't say anything for the longest second before chuckling slightly.

"What exactly?

"Because I remember coming back here with you and us falling asleep almost immediately."

"Are you being real right now Mira." I asked, no more play in my eyes.

I knew she knew something. But j just didn't know how to bring it out of her and that was messing with my senses.

"You're looking for what's none of your business Zara." She said as she shakes her head furiously.

Then she looked up.
Her eyes became calculated.

"I do. I just don't want to dwell on it." She replied curtly.

"You could stay in but I have classes to attend."

She turned to leave but I grabbed her hand trapping her in place.

"Why the fuck where you in an enclosed space with Kai yesterday?" I questioned, getting angry at the thoughts of both of them together.

"I knew it wasn't long before you let this jealous part of you out again." She laughed out loud.

But this time, her laugh seemed like mine and the face that stared back ate wasn't Mira. It was my face. It was Luna.
