Chapter 143 The Journey to Cassea

Chapter 143 The Journey to Cassea
LORCAN

I keep telling myself not to kill Finnegan Zicco the second I get my hands on him.

I fucking knew that I should've been careful with him. He's proven himself not to be someone trustworthy, but we fell right into his trap.

The fact that he wanted to take Lyria to Cassea so it would be just the two of them...

My wolf spirit can't handle that.

But for now, we're in the clear, so all I focus on is the feel of Lyria's body against the side of mine. We're away from Eron now, heading toward an unfamiliar terrain that we've never been on.

I have no idea what to expect from the human world. The humans we met moments ago definitely seemed like us, at least on the outside. I knew that part, but seeing it was a completely different experience.

I guess the war between our species truly is pointless.

Though I know that this is all happening and we're even in the car headed toward a completely different country, I'm still in mild disbelief.

Every time I look at Lyria and it occurs to me how far we've come, it just blows my fucking mind. We're here and we're doing this, and for the time being, that's all that matters.

Just then, she looks at me, almost like she can hear my thoughts.

And then I hear her voice in my head, faint but present.

"What did you say?"

Shock slams right into me.

"You can hear me?"

Lyria's eyes widen and for a second, I hear nothing else through the mind-link. I can tell she's struggling to form her words.

"Just take it easy," I tell her. "Focus and try again. Just say the words with your mind."

What is happening? I can barely wrap my mind around all these changes.

"It's not as easy," she answers me. "It takes a lot of... effort."

Happiness explodes in my chest, and it suddenly hits me that her wolf is truly resurfacing, just as we suspected.

That makes her more werewolf than anything else.

How would that affect her relationship with this father of hers? Does he know anything about her? Does he think she's more human than werewolf? Will he accept her as she is? What should we even expect there?

The journey takes three whole days and a boat ride. Basically, the human world has different rules compared to ours. They have something known as immigration, and we don’t have passports to show we’re part of the human world, so we basically have to be smuggled in.

It’s fucking madness, but that’s just how it is.

Words can’t describe how awful the whole experience is. Fuck, I don’t think I’ve ever been this nauseous in all my life. I focus on making Lyria as comfortable as possible, and not on the sound of Zorah retching, or how her brother seems to be glaring at me like I’ve hurt him in some way when he’s the one who wanted to fuck us all over.

Dumb fuck. I’m still not over that.

But for now, there’s no point in fighting with him. We all just have to endure this until we arrive at our destination.

I wake up one morning to the sound of knocking on our cabin’s door. Lyria stirs in my arms, too, looking up groggily.

“We made it,” the guy on the other side of the door says gruffly. “Come to the deck in ten minutes. We have to move quickly.”

Lyria and I exchange a look, and I can’t help it. I kiss her. I’m so fucking relieved I could cry. If I was ever afraid of the human world and what would be waiting for us, I’m completely over that fear right now.

This entire journey has been a never-ending hell for all of us. At least now, we can shift our concern to other things.

“I’m scared,” Lyria whispers to me, and I can tell by the look in her eyes and the sound of her voice that she means it. “What if this was a terrible idea? What if we should never have left Eron?”

I pinch her chin between my fingers and tell her, “We’ll just have to find out the truth when we get out of this boat. No point in worrying about it now.”

The procedure is pretty simple, and we don’t have to be separated to make it to shore. We get on a tiny ass fuck of a boat and we’re covered by a tarp so we’re not spotted by maritime police or whatever the hell the guy said.

This goes by quickly. Afterward, we meet with a man dressed in a black suit standing right next to a black SUV, who smirks like a jackass when his gaze lands on Lyria.

It pisses me off.

“You’re the spitting image of your mother,” he claims. “God rest her soul.”

“Goddess, actually,” Zorah cuts in. “She was a werewolf, so she believed in our Goddess.”

“I don’t know who you are, but I don’t think you’re qualified to say that. You’re too young to have known her. You can’t know what her beliefs were. People change.”

Zorah folds her arms across her chest but doesn’t say anything else. The guy looks back at Lyria, and my arm around her waist tightens protectively.

“We weren’t expecting this many people,” he admits. “It’s hard enough to hide one werewolf. Three more? It’s almost impossible.”

“Lyrus and I had an agreement, alright?” Finnegan says impatiently. “This is my sister and the guy over there is Lyria’s mate. She would never have right Eron without him.”

The man shrugs. “I guess it’ll be up to him to decide, then. I won’t get involved.”

Lyria fidgets with the hem of her tunic the whole time while biting her bottom lip nervously. I want to tell her that everything will be alright, but I also know that my words won’t do shit for her.

The place we arrive at… seriously surprises me. The mansion before our eyes is enormous and modern, and I’m not entirely sure of how the human world works, but it seems to me like her father is loaded. Then again, what did we expect after the journey we went through?

I don’t know why, but that makes me even more nervous. He’s not someone we’d be able to get rid of if we needed it.

He walks out just as the car slows to a halt, and Lyria sucks in a breath.

Here goes fucking nothing, I guess.

We all get out of the car and I place my hand on her lower back to give her the support she needs right now. He makes his way down the stairs, not taking his eyes off his daughter.

I know everyone says she looks like her mother, but I see the resemblance with her father, too.

“Lyrianne,” he says warmly when he stops in front of us. “You don’t know how long I’ve waited for this moment, daughter.”

He opens his arms wide, inviting her into his embrace. Lyria hesitates for a good few seconds, and then I urge her forward with a few short words through the mind-link.

“Just go,” I say. “What harm could it do?”

Lyria cuts me a look from the corner of her eye, sighs softly, then hugs her father.
