Chapter 87 I’d Be Lost.
Creed’s pov.
I nod my head at her, knowing exactly what she means.
“I know what you mean,” I say, shivering, “she makes me feel wrong too.”
“I don’t understand why everyone can’t just leave us alone,” she sighs, leaning into me closer, “I just… I wish we could live our lives in peace.”
I sigh too, placing a kiss onto the top of her head, inhaling her scent slowly, “I wish we could’ve lived our lives in peace too. But… that wasn’t our destiny, our fate. The goddess knew we were strong. Not everyone can handle the things we’ve been through.”
“I know,” she whispers, “that doesn’t make it fair though.”
“No, it doesn’t make it fair, and it doesn’t make it right… but it is what it is. We can’t change anything, only make our future better. For the babies,” I reply softly, running my hand through her hair.
She nods her head at me with a small smile on her face, “we will… we’ll make a better future for our babies.”
“Do you want to rest?” I ask gently, “I can take you back to our room.”
Lily yawns just as I ask her, making me chuckle slightly.
“Let’s get you in bed,” I whisper with a small smile, leading Lily towards our bedroom.
By the time I had her tucked into the blankets she was snoring softly.
I smile to myself and place a gentle kiss on her forehead.
I slowly leave our room, closing the door softly behind me.
“Going somewhere," I hear Virginia’s voice say from behind me, startling me as I didn’t smell her scent.
“What the hell are you doing up here?” I ask angrily, “the alpha floor is off limits to tribe members.”
I grit my teeth in anger, trying not to lose it on her right now.
She rolled her eyes at me, “looking for you, obviously.”
I take a deep breath while pinching the bridge of my nose, “you need to leave,” I say calmly.
“So soon?” She taunts, “I’ve only just got here.”
“You had one rule…” I say quietly, Hunter coming to the surface, “you were to never step foot in the tribe hosue… especially on my floor!”
I grab her by the throat and push her up against the wall before I can stop myself, Hunter's rage fueling mine.
Her eyes widened in shock and fear.
“For the last time… get out of here!” I scream, throwing her away from me.
Virginia scrambles to her feet, running down the stairs as fast as she can.
I sigh while running a hand over my face.
“Fucking hell,” I mutter under my breath, walking towards my office to finish the work I was doing before Lily came in.
After I sat down in my chair behind my desk I leaned back while scanning the paperwork in front of me.
I could honestly care less for it right now, all I can think about is the war.
Why should I do this paperwork when I could be helping prepare?
‘We still have our duties as King, Creed,’ Hunter scoffs, ‘when we slack on our work it makes it worse for us, for the tribe. We can’t fall behind on business.’
I grunt, knowing he’s right.
It doesn’t make me feel any better though, if anything, it makes me feel worse… knowing there’s nothing more I can do to help prepare right now.
‘Ryan,’ I said down our link, thinking we should probably finish what we started earlier, and I should let him know what the girls are planning…
‘Yes?’ He responds instantly.
‘You can come back to my office now. Bring something to eat with you, and try to be quick… there’s something we need to discuss,’ cutting the link between us, I lean back in my chair and wait.
“I brought burgers!” Ryan says excitedly as he enters my office.
I chuckle, knowing that’s his favourite, “please, sit. We need to discuss something.”
He raises his eyebrows at me in confusion but doesn’t say anything and takes a seat in the chair across from my desk.
“Lily… and Raya, they are planning something. Now, I’m not one hundred percent sure BUT, Lily said some things that concern me,” I say calmly.
“What are they planning?” He asks skeptically, body visibly tensing.
“They… want to speed Raya’s pregnancy along further after Lily gives birth and heals, she’ll have regained her strength after having our babies… Now, don’t get mad. I don’t like it either and said I would rather they don’t- but we can’t force them not to do anything,” I answer with a sigh.
“They… want to speed her pregnancy along?” He asks quietly, “is that even safe?”
“I don’t know,” I whisper, “dark magic always comes with a price.”
“No,” he mumbled, “I won’t allow it, it’s not happening.”
“Ryan-,” I go to say but he cuts me off.
“No!” He says a little louder this time, “I won’t allow it, I won’t allow anyone to harm my fledglings.”
He storms out of my office, slamming the door harder than necessary.
I groan, placing my head in my hands.
What the hell are we going to do?
‘I don’t know,’ Hunter whispers, ‘we do what we must… not what is good for others. If our mate truly thinks it is safe and the right thing to do… we follow her lead.’
‘We can’t just do whatever our mate wants, Hunter,’ I grumble to him, ‘we have to think about our tribe, about our friend… and- and his feelings.’
‘You’ve never cared about anyone’s feelings before… why now?’ Hunter asks curiously.
‘Lily is why… she changed me, changed us,’ I whisper.
‘She changed us for the better… She's the other half of our soul. She brings out the good in us, I’m glad we changed…’
“I’m glad too,” I whisper out loud, “without her… I’d be lost.”
