Chapter 49 - Power Practice

Chapter 49 - Power Practice
Sienna's P.O.V.

Lizette and Kierra are preparing to show us how we can train our unique abilities. We just finished breakfast, and they said they wanted to get started right away. I'm super excited to see what we can do.

They have us standing in a circle with our mates in the backyard. Lizette said even the mates who don't have powers can help because their energy assists their mates' abilities.

"Alright, let's get started. We'll start with the people who already know what their powers are and how to use them. Zeida, would you like to go first?" Lizette says. Zeida skips to the middle of the circle. I honestly don't know if I should be excited or scared. I love her, but she can be a little terrifying.

"What do you want me to do?" Zeida asks, walking around and looking at us like we're her next victims.

"Can you show us what powers you have? We know some of them, but I'm sure you have others." Kierra says. Oh, no. Zeida has a sparkle in her eyes that makes me think we should run and hide.

"Watch and see if you can keep up." She begins spinning incredibly fast while rising off the ground. Right before our eyes, she shifts into a giant bird and flies over us. She then shifts into a leopard and jumps into a tree. When she jumps down, she's human again, but something is happening to the rest of us. We all begin doing the cha-cha. No matter how hard I try to stop, I can't. Zeida laughs, and whatever she did to us stops.

"What did you do?" I ask her. She walks over and puts her arm around my shoulders.

"I just showed you a little taste of what I can do. I have the power of my singing, the ability to manipulate others and shift into any animal I want for a short time. I can also use water to my advantage." I touch her cheek with my hand, and she looks confused.

"Sorry. I was just making sure you were real." Everyone laughs nervously. Zeida is scary.

"Cruz, would you like to go next?" Kierra asks. He steps forward and shrugs.

"There's not much more I can do other than this." He suddenly shifts into an enormous bull and runs head-first toward a boulder three times his size. When he hits it with his head, it turns into sand. He then shifts back and is fully clothed. He walks over to Cassidy, who’s clapping for him and his face turns a little red. Such a sweet minotaur.

"Mariela, I'm almost scared to ask you to go," Kierra says. The little fae witch runs to the center of the circle and giggles.

"Why are you scared of me?" she asks innocently. Before any of us can answer, she begins twirling and chanting. Suddenly, the ground starts shaking, and she throws dust into the air. The ground shakes even more. Mariela giggles, and it stops. She then claps her hands, and flowers appear, or what I thought were flowers. As they get bigger, they look like giant plants with mouths, and they snap at us like they're going to eat us. We all run from them, and Mariela giggles again as she claps, making everything return to normal.

"See, I'm not scary," she skips over to Drake and kisses him. She's just as terrifying as Zeida. Together, they could take over the world.

"Alright, Maverick and Eva, I know you're both still getting used to your magic. Let's see what you can do." Neither of them look like they want to move. I squeeze Mav's hand and see Zay kissing Eva's forehead. They are both so strong but still getting used to being around people who care for them.

When they reach the center of the circle, they begin flying and saying a spell. I start to feel tingly all over.

"They're placing the protection spell. It may not stop Kakia completely, but it will help slow her down. We will strengthen it some more before the fight." Kierra explains. They land on their feet, and Mav returns to my side. I know there's a lot more they can do, but they're being modest. He told me about some spells that came to him when the black magic left. He and Eva are more powerful than they give themselves credit for.

"Okay, my two goddesses, it's your turn," Lizette says, looking at me and Cassidy.

"I'm not a goddess. All I know how to do is jump really high," I argue. Lizette and Kierra shake their heads.

"You can do more than that. Trust us." I step forward, and Cassidy takes my hand.

"You go first, Cass," I tell her. She's incredible. I'm going to be the disappointing ending to an incredible show. What good is jumping really high?

Cassidy spins and holds her arms out. We are nowhere near a large body of water, but a wave suddenly hovers over us like it's going to come down on us at any second. Cassidy moves her hands around, and a fire appears in the middle of the circle. The wave crashes onto the fire, and the ground opens up at the same time. The water disappears, and the ground closes. Cassidy isn't done. She leaps into the air and holds her arms out. Her eyes began glowing. The air turns frigid cold, and it begins to snow. Just as I'm sure we're all going to freeze to death, it melts and becomes warm again. Cassidy lands on her feet with a smile. Yes, that is a hard act to follow.

"That was amazing. Okay, everyone ready to eat lunch?" I turn to walk away, and Cassidy grabs my hand.

"Nope. Come on, Sienna," she says. I sigh and return to the center of the circle.

"Fine, but all I'll be doing is leaping my way to the pack house." I run and leap into the air. Instead of just coming back down as I expect, I do two flips, and suddenly, swords appear in both hands. When I land on my feet, I look around in confusion.

I begin running again and jump and flip while swinging the swords. I haven't had much sword training, but this feels natural. I kick and jump while whipping the swords around. When I come to a stop, I cross them in front of me, and fire shoots out the ends. I feel powerful. It's time to kick some demon ass.

Lizette's P.O.V.

I watch everyone practice after we do the quick round to see what they can do. They are some of the most amazing people I have ever met. I hope it's enough. If we can survive the first battle I'll be happy because I have a feeling not all of us will walk away from the second one. My heart breaks when I look around at the group I just met. I wonder which ones of us aren't going to make it.
