Chapter 35 THE EIGHTH MOLTING : WORLD BINDER SCALES

Chapter 35 THE EIGHTH MOLTING : WORLD BINDER SCALES
The world is a broken machine," Kaelen said, his voice cutting through the localized vacuum of the high heavens. "I am the only one with the tools to fix it."

The sky above Celestia didn't just turn dark; it turned liquid. The clouds were replaced by a churning, incandescent sea of raw, unrefined mana—a substance so volatile that a single drop could vaporize a city. This was the "End-Time Deluge," the final failsafe of the High Deities.

"Master, the atmosphere is saturating!" Thorne screamed, his Dragon-Knight wings beating frantically to keep him aloft as the air turned into a thick, conductive soup. "The ships are losing their hulls! The Elven fleet is being crushed by the sheer weight of the mana overhead!"

"They aren't just trying to kill us, Thorne," Kaelen said, looking up at the trillion-ton ocean of white-hot power looming over the continent. "They’re flushing the world. They’d rather drown the planet than let a scrapper keep the keys to the castle."

"Kaelen, look at the readings!" Jax’s voice crackled through the communication gem. "The deluge is dropping! In sixty seconds, the Western Continent will be nothing but a crater of mana-glass!"

"Sixty seconds is more than enough time for a merchant to finalize a contract," Kaelen said.

He flew upward, leaving the safety of the flagship’s barriers. He ascended until he was inches from the underside of the mana-sea. The heat was enough to melt star-iron, but Kaelen’s platinum-gold scales didn't even flicker.

"Is that your final move?" Kaelen roared toward the Divine Palace. "A flood? You're even smaller than I thought!"

Kaelen’s body began to vibrate with a frequency that moved the very air. His scales didn't just grow; they detached and multiplied. Millions of platinum-violet scales erupted from his form, spinning outward in a massive, geometric spiral.

"What is he doing?" the Knight Commander gasped from the deck below. "His body... it’s dissolving into the sky!"

"He’s not dissolving," Thorne whispered, his eyes wide with awe. "He’s building."

The scales expanded at a speed that broke the laws of physics. They locked together like a trillion-piece puzzle, forming a literal, solid canopy of indestructible Dragon-Skin. The sky was no longer a void; it was a shimmering, golden shield that stretched from the Western Ridge to the Elven Forests.

The "End-Time Deluge" hit.

A billion tons of raw mana slammed into Kaelen’s scales. The impact should have shattered the planet. Instead, there was a muffled, metallic thud. The golden canopy held. The world below was bathed in a soft, amber glow, protected from the divine wipeout by the literal skin of its Sovereign.

"He caught the ocean," Jax whispered, staring at his blank sensors. "He actually caught the sky."

Kaelen stood at the center of the shield, his physical form now glowing with a light that made the deities look dim. He felt every mana-vein in the world. He felt the roots of the dead World Tree, the flow of the Abyssal rivers, and the heartbeat of every scrapper in the mud.

Kaelen looked at the Divine Palace. He didn't need to fly there. He didn't need to fight his way through. He simply looked at the space where the palace was, and the reality of that space shifted.

"I no longer need to hunt for power," Kaelen said, his voice echoing through the minds of every living soul. "I am the power."

With a single step, Kaelen moved through the "Reality Mapping." He appeared instantly in the center of the High Deity’s sanctum—the Throne of the Beginning.

The room was filled with the scent of ancient incense and the cold, sterile aura of absolute law. On the throne sat a man who looked younger than Kaelen, his hair like spun starlight and his eyes two pits of infinite, frozen blue.

"The scrapper," the Chief Deity spoke, his voice the sound of shifting tectonic plates. "You’ve ruined a very elegant system, Kaelen Aurelian."

"Elegant?" Kaelen walked toward him, his platinum scales clicking on the marble floor. "Is that what you call a genocide? A farm? My father was a scholar who found the truth, and you had him hunted like a dog."

"He was a variable that didn't fit the equation," the Deity said, standing up. He was taller than Kaelen, his presence a suffocating weight of 'Holy' authority. "Just as you are. The Aurelian Genocide was a necessary pruning. Dragons are too chaotic for a perfect world."

"A perfect world?" Kaelen laughed, a sound of pure, cold fury. "You mean a world where you never have to pay for the mana you steal? I’ve spent my life in the pits you created. I’ve lived on the scraps you threw away."

"And yet, here you are," the Deity said, raising a hand. A spear of pure, white light—the original 'Purity Pulse'—materialized in his grip. "A king of mud, standing in the city of stars. Do you truly think your 'World-Binder' scales can stop the source of all Light?"

"I don't think," Kaelen said, his wings snapping wide, the violet fire at the edges beginning to consume the Deity’s white aura. "I know. Because I’m the one who’s been paying your bills, and I’ve decided to close the account."

The Chief Deity’s eyes narrowed, a flicker of genuine, mortal fear finally appearing in those pits of blue. "You cannot kill a God, boy."

"You're not a God," Kaelen said, stepping into the Deity’s personal space. "You're just a merchant who’s run out of credit."

The Deity lunged with the spear. Kaelen didn't move his arms. He simply willed the reality of the spear to change. The white light didn't strike; it turned into harmless smoke the moment it touched Kaelen’s shadow.

Kaelen’s hand shot out, his fingers locking around the Chief Deity’s throat.

The "God" gasped, his feet leaving the floor. The "Heavenly Realm" began to shake as its foundation was gripped by a higher power.

"Master!" Thorne’s voice rang through the gem. "The palace is collapsing! The sky-shield is absorbing the deluge! What do we do?"

"Wait for me," Kaelen whispered to the world, but his eyes never left the Deity’s face. "I'm just finishing a conversation."

The Chief Deity clawed at Kaelen’s arm, his divine power leaking out in frantic, white sparks. "What... what are you?"

Kaelen leaned in, his golden eyes reflecting the end of the High Deity’s world.

"I'm the Meat Shield you used to build your throne," Kaelen whispered. "And I've come to take the seat."

A massive, golden pulse erupted from the throne room, shattering the remaining spires of Celestia. The suspense was a deafening roar as the final veil of the world was about to be torn away.

The scrapper was no longer at the gate. He was on the throne. And the world was about to see what happens when the Dragon God stops being patient.
