Chapter 112 Chapter 112
I nodded, squaring my shoulders as we followed him inside. The brief respite had refreshed me, Diamond's energy flowing more smoothly now. Whatever challenges awaited us, I was ready to face them. With my mates at my side, my brother finding his strength, and the possibility of a new life growing within me, I had everything to fight for.
Fin led us to the command center where Lucious, Kane, and Liam were gathered around a large map with Peta. The woman looked better after a few days of proper food and rest, though the shadows of her captivity still lingered in her eyes.
"Tell them what you remembered," Lucious encouraged gently.
Peta nodded, tracing a finger along the Idaho border on the map. "The facility is built into the side of a mountain. I overheard one of the guards mentioning something called 'Project Moonstone' happening there." She shuddered slightly. "Whatever it is, it terrified even the senior guards. They'd threaten the most difficult captives with transfer to Moonstone if they didn't cooperate."
"Moonstone," I repeated, the word sending an uncomfortable chill down my spine. Diamond stirred uneasily within me, recognising something significant about the name.
"There's more," Fin said, pointing to a series of red marks on the map. "We've been tracking disappearances reported by allied packs over the last decade. There's a clear pattern—they're specifically targeting wolves with rare abilities."
"Like Lily's seer gifts," I said, the pieces clicking into place. "They're collecting wolves with special talents."
Lucious's expression darkened. "When I was younger, before I understood what the Northern Alliance really was, Helena used to tell me stories about a special place where the most gifted wolves were sent for 'advanced training.' She made it sound like an honour."
"But it was this Moonstone facility," Kane concluded grimly. "Where they're doing something so terrible that even their own people fear it."
I studied the map more closely, noticing something that had escaped my attention before. "This location—it's not just near three pack territories. It's directly above an ancient convergence point."
The Priestess, who had been quietly observing from a corner of the room, stepped forward at my words. "You sense it, Luna? The ley line nexus?"
I nodded, Diamond's awareness guiding me. "Three major ley lines intersect beneath that mountain. It's a place of power, the kind of place where the veil between worlds grows thin."
"Worlds?" Brent asked, frowning in confusion. "What worlds?"
"The shadow realm," Lucious answered before I could, his voice tight with dawning horror. "Remember what Marcus said before he died? About the 'ancient one' who promised them power if they prepared the way?"
A heavy silence fell over the room as the implications sank in. The Northern Alliance hadn't just been building power for its own sake; they'd been working toward something far worse.
"They're trying to create a doorway," The Priestess's voice was grave as she continued, "A doorway to the shadow realm where the goddess's dark twin was banished. If they succeed..."
"Everyone we love would be in danger," I finished, my hand instinctively moving to my abdomen. Diamond's protective presence surged within me, her silver energy coiling around the tiny spark of life we both sensed growing there.
"We need to move quickly," Kane said, his tactical mind already shifting to planning mode. "Before they can implement whatever this Operation Eclipse is."
Liam stepped closer, his scholarly expression troubled. "If they've been building this facility at a ley line convergence, they've likely been siphoning power from it for years. That kind of energy accumulation doesn't just dissipate if left unattended."
"So even if we don't act, the doorway could still open?" I asked, dread pooling in my stomach.
"It's possible," the Priestess confirmed. "Particularly with the full moon approaching. Such celestial events amplify magical energies."
Lucious moved to stand beside me, his presence a steady comfort through our strengthening bond. "Then we need a two-pronged approach. Free the captives and disrupt whatever ritual they're preparing."
"I can help with that," Peta offered, straightening her shoulders despite the fear evident in her eyes. "I may not remember exact details, but I know the general layout of a Northern Alliance facility. They all follow similar designs."
"It's too dangerous to send you back," I began, but she cut me off with a determined shake of her head.
"With all due respect, Luna, I spent twelve years in their cages. If my knowledge can help free others still suffering, I need to be part of this."
I recognised the look in her eyes, the same determination I'd felt when confronting my own captors. Who was I to deny her the chance to reclaim her agency?
"Very well," I conceded. "But you'll work with us on strategy only. No field operations."
Fin was already sketching a preliminary plan on a nearby whiteboard, his analytical mind breaking down the complex problem into manageable components. "We'll need reconnaissance first, detailed intel on security systems, guard rotations, number of captives."
"And a way to neutralise whatever power they've accumulated at the convergence point," Liam added, rifling through a stack of ancient texts the Priestess had provided. "There must be a counter-ritual we can perform."
As they continued planning, I felt a wave of exhaustion wash over me. Diamond's energy flickered in response, her protective instincts urging me to rest for the sake of our potential child. I swayed slightly, and Brent's strong arm immediately wrapped around my waist.
"That's enough for tonight," he said firmly, his tone brooking no argument. "You need sleep."
I wanted to protest, but the concerned looks from my mates and the gentle nudge from Diamond convinced me that he was right. We had three weeks until the council meeting and Operation Eclipse, whatever it might be. I needed to conserve my strength.
"We'll reconvene in the morning," I agreed reluctantly. "But I want updates on any new information immediately."
As my mates guided me back to our quarters, I couldn't shake the growing sense of urgency that had settled over me. The Northern Alliance's plans were more sinister than we'd initially believed, not just controlling wolves or experimenting on children, but potentially opening a doorway to a realm that had been sealed for good reason.
