Chapter 33 Courtney
Anushka's P.O.V.
I smile at the nurse who walks into the room. She puts hand sanitizer on her hands and comes over to the side of the bed. I can't help noticing how nervous she seems.
"Are you okay, Courtney?" I ask her. She looks away, and a tear runs down her cheek.
"No. Someone asked me to do something, and I can't do it," she replies softly.
"Was it something bad?" Dakota asks. Courtney bites her lip and won't meet any of our eyes.
"Did someone get to you to come after one of us?" Jordan asks angrily. When she starts sobbing, I know that's exactly what happened.
"Who was it?" I ask her.
"A man named Gregory." She answers, wiping her tears.
"What does he want you to do?" Jordan asks, standing up. Courtney looks at him in fear.
"He wanted to make sure Anushka never left the ICU." She answers, looking from me to Jordan. Why are so many people trying to hurt us? We're good people. We've never hurt anyone.
"When did he tell you this?" Jordan asks. He goes to the door and has Gavin step inside. After quickly telling him what's going on, we all look at Courtney.
"Right before I came in here. He contacted me two days ago and offered me money to keep him posted on her condition. When I told him that she was awake and would be moved to another unit, he said he didn't want her leaving the ICU alive." She starts crying again. I can't help but feel sorry for her. I truly believe she has a good heart. Otherwise, she wouldn't have come in here and told us everything.
"Why would you help the bad guys? Don't you like us?" Dakota asks her. Courtney wipes the tears off her cheeks.
"I like you very much; that's why I had to tell you. I'm not a bad person. I'm just desperate. Are you going to call the police? I'm a single mom, and I don't want my kids to go into foster care." I reach over and take her hand.
"We're not going to call the police. Other than telling Gregory my condition, you didn't break any laws. You did the right thing, telling us the truth. I'm glad it was you that he reached out to and not someone else who wouldn't have had so much compassion." I glance at Jordan, and he nods. He already knows what I'm thinking. If Gregory knows she told us, he won't hesitate to come after her and her kids. I don't even know this man, but I already want to see his head on a platter.
"We'll help you. I want you to tell the hospital you're sick and need to go home. Pack what you and your kids need, and I will put you into a hotel with one of my security guys to keep you safe." When she looks like she's going to argue, Jordan continues. "If Gregory finds out you didn't do what he asked, he will come after you. Don't worry about not having any money. We'll take care of everything."
"How can you help someone like me?" Courtney asks, looking at us in disbelief.
"We have so many people trying to do us harm. It's nice to find one who does the right thing. How old are your kids?" I'm hoping they're young so they can stay at the hotel and not have to go to school.
"Sarah is two, and Tyler is four. They're at my apartment with a babysitter." Her eyes light up, and I understand that feeling. I'm sure my eyes do the same thing when I talk about Dakota.
"Does their dad have visitation? I just need to know if we need to be aware of someone coming to the hotel." Jordan explains.
"He was killed in a car accident. He was on his way to the hospital when I was giving birth to Sarah when someone ran a stoplight." My heart breaks for her.
"Bobby is downstairs waiting for you. He'll escort you home and stay with you and your kids at the hotel. I hope this won't be for long, but we need something concrete before we go after Gregory." Jordan tells her.
"Thank you. I promise I'll make it up to you," Courtney says as she prepares to leave the room. Dakota stops her.
"Don't be mean to Bobby. He's my friend," she tells her. Courtney smiles slightly.
"I won't." She leaves, followed by Gavin. A few minutes later, Jordan receives a text from Bobby saying that he has her and they're on their way to her apartment.
"What are we going to do about Gregory?" I ask him.
"I have Raymond working on him. We need to find hard evidence about what he's doing. We'll get him." He kisses my head, and there's a knock on the door.
"Good morning. I'm Vince from physical therapy. Dr. Martinez wants me to get you up. I will have the nurse bring you something mild for pain, and then I'll help you sit up." He smiles, and I nod.
"Thank you," I reply as he walks back out of the room.
"Don't they have any female physical therapists?" Vince is muscular, like a bodybuilder. I think Jordan is feeling a little jealous.
"You've had plenty of female nurses parading through here, so I don't want to hear it." His mouth falls open.
"I would never look at them that way." I giggle and take his hand. Laughing doesn't hurt as much as it did yesterday.
"I know you wouldn't." Still, it can't hurt to remind women that this man is off limits.

Stewart's P.O.V.
I can't believe that idiot Cain got himself killed while trying to kidnap Anushka. He was supposed to do it quietly and not in a shootout. I'm glad I hadn't paid him anything. I told him he would get paid once Jordan paid the ransom, and I said he could do what he wanted to Anushka. I knew that sick bastard would love having her more than money. He better not have left a paper trail; otherwise, I'm screwed.
Now that she's in the hospital, I need to think of something else. Gregory is also working on something, but he won't say what. I just need money and my company back. With Cain dead, I'm going to have to think of something else. I wasn't planning on killing Anushka, but plans can change. I send a text to the person I know who will do it with no questions asked. Once she's gone, I can retake my place as the company CEO.
Kill Anushka and make it messy.
I will send you proof when it's done.
