Chapter 267 Knife
Dakota's P.O.V.
I need to get out of here and return to the compound. I glance at Enzo and see that he's untied the rope and is pulling it off himself and Addy. I look toward the other room, and Enzo nods. He is one of the smartest kids I have ever met. I can only imagine what he'll achieve as an adult. I begin pacing, while Raul smirks at me, and Enzo and Addy tiptoe to the other room.
"I know why you feel like you're owed something. I may not condone what you're doing, but at least I understand why you're doing it. What's in it for your partner? What is he going to gain by destroying my family and the Buccheris?" I continue pacing to distract Raul so Enzo and Addy have time to get into the adjoining room.
"He has his reasons. He has always felt that the other families don't respect him as much as they do the other bosses. He wants to make everyone fear him, and what better way than to eliminate the two largest families in New York?" I stop pacing and sigh as I put my hand on my knife.
"That's the first mistake both of you made," I say as Raul looks at me smugly.
"What's that?" he asks.
"Thinking that you would be able to get rid of us so easily." I pull my knife out and have it flying through the air to stick him in the center of his forehead before he even realizes what's happening. Raul falls to the ground, and I pull my knife out and check to make sure he's dead. There's no pulse, and his breathing has stopped.
"You guys can come out now." Enzo and Addy run to me, holding hands as I wipe the blood from my knife on Raul's shirt.
"Are you okay?" Enzo asks.
"Yes, but we have to get home right away." We run to the front door, and when I open it, Sarah, Xavier, Ari, and Russell are all waiting for us.
"What happened? Where's Raul?" Ari asks as Galdino and Benny run from the side of the house to join us.
"He's dead. We have to get to the compound; he wasn't working alone. I hope we're not too late, or everyone there may already be dead." We run to the SUV, jump inside, and Xavier drives like a madman while I tell everyone what happened with Raul and who his accomplice is.
"I can't believe it. Are you sure?" Ari asks.
"Yes. It's the only thing that makes sense, and it was so obvious that I missed it. The next time I let someone into the compound with open arms, please shoot me. I have been taking too many risks, and all these abductions are my fault. I want to see the good in people, and I believe people can change. However, I think I've been wrong. Does anybody have good in them, or is everyone just pretending?" I look out the window and sigh.
"You let me and my mommy stay with you, and we are good," Addy says from behind us, where she's sitting on her grandpa's lap. I look at Russell's face, and there is no way he's faking that light in his eyes or his smile when he looks at his granddaughter.
"You and your mommy are very good people, and I'm glad you're staying with us. Did Raul hurt you?" I ask, trying to distract myself from the panic I feel inside.
"No. He said he wanted me and Enzo to play a game with him. He took us outside the gate, tied us up, and put us in a van," Addy replies. I debate calling Noah or Tyler, but I don't want to alert the man I plan on giving a slow, painful death that we're onto him.
"When he took us to the van, we didn't want to go with him, but he wouldn't let us leave. Are you mad at us?" Enzo asks. I turn to look at him on Galdino's lap and shake my head.
"Why would I be mad at you?" He shrugs slightly.
"We didn't know he was a bad guy, and we were going to play with him." I reach over and stroke his head.
"No, I'm not mad at you. He tricked us all into thinking he was a good guy. I'm sorry I let him into the compound. I promise I'll be more careful with anyone else who shows up. When we get home, I want you and Addy to run straight to Addy's room. Sam and your mom are there. No matter what you hear, stay inside that room. Okay?" I ask, looking from Enzo to Addy. They both nod.
"Are you going to get the other bad guy?" Addy asks.
"Yes, sweetheart. We are going to get him as soon as we get home. I'm going to have your grandpa stay with you, your mom, Valentina, and Enzo to make sure you're safe." Russell hugs Addy, and I come to my decision about his future. Maybe I can give one more person a second chance. I just hope it doesn't come back to haunt me later.
