Chapter 25 Eavesdropping
Jordan's P.O.V.
When I return to the penthouse, I don't waste any time. While Anushka helps Dakota repack her things so the room can be ready for Bill in the morning, I call Rymond.
"Hello?" he answers.
"It's Jordan. I need you to look into a few things for me. First, I want to know who the new security company is for my building. They are telling me they don't have the manpower to stop people who shouldn't be here from entering the building. The security aspect is one of the main reasons I chose this building. I also want you to look into Cora and Gregory's relationship. Dakota saw Gregory sitting outside in a car at the same time Cora was waiting for me when we got home. He knew I was coming back early, so that could be how she knew. I'm going to get the security team I have used in the past to send men to secure the penthouse. I'm done playing around with all these people coming after us." I tell him.
"I'm on it, Jordan. Be safe, and I'll let you know once I have something to report." Raymond disconnects the call, and I make my second call. Elite Security is the best private security company in New York. All their men and women come from the FBI, CIA, and military. I never felt the need to have twenty-four-hour security because I don't like to have a bunch of unnecessary people following me around. However, now it's not just me. I have a family to think about, and I won't let anything happen to them.
"Elite Security." A female voice answers.
"This is Jordan Holt I need to speak to Todd immediately," I say.
"Please hold." I wait for less than a minute when a familiar voice greets me.
"Hi, Jordan. What can I do for you?" Todd asks.
"I need several men. I want a round-the-clock detail on my home, as well as with us whenever my family and I leave. I would like one man inside the penthouse, another outside our door, and one outside the building to monitor who is coming and going. I will give them a list of people who are not to enter this building. My family and I have several people coming after us for unknown reasons. My daughter was almost kidnapped when we were on vacation. The next day, all three of us were kidnapped. My girlfriend's apartment was broken into, and this morning, her ex-husband showed up with a gun. I need the best of the best. Money is not an issue." I sit down in my office chair and sigh. I don't know how Anushka stays so strong. I want to get the men here so the three of us can relax a little.
"I didn't know you had a child. Congratulations. I will send you three of the best. I'll have them work twelve-hour shifts, and they will rotate with another three. I'll ensure that you have the same two teams every day. If there are any changes, I'll let you know in advance. Once I have the team set up, I'll email you their details so you can approve or decline them. Would you like them to bring one of our secure cars for you to use?" I hadn't thought about that. Their secure cars are like tanks. It will cost a lot of money, but Anushka and Dakota's lives are worth every penny.
"Yes, and make it an SUV. Anytime we go somewhere, I want all three of them with us. Thank you, Todd." I feel a little relief knowing that we'll have our own security.
"You're welcome, and feel free to let me know if you need anything else." I disconnect the call and stand up. I know he'll get the men here fast. When I leave the office, I go to Dakota's room to peek in on the two of them. Everything has been packed, and they're sitting in the bay window. Dakota is leaning against Anushka as they look outside.
"Mommy, why are there so many bad guys?" Dakota asks. Anushka kisses her head.
"I don't know. Sometimes, it's hard to know who is bad and who is good, so you have to be careful. If, for any reason, we get separated, I don't want you to go with anyone, even if you know them." Anushka tells her.
"Except for you and Daddy, right?" Dakota asks. Anushka doesn't answer right away, and I'm worried that maybe a part of her doesn't trust me yet.
"Daddy and I are the only ones you can go with unless we tell you to go with someone else. What do you think about having a little brother or sister?" Anushka asks, and Dakota giggles.
"Do you have a baby growing in your belly?" She asks excitedly.
"No, not yet. Would it be okay if I did?" I lean against the wall and wait for her answer. I feel wrong eavesdropping on them, but I like listening to them talk when they don't know I'm there.
"Yes. Can we have one now so Bill can decorate their room, too?" Dakota asks.
"What's this I hear about decorating a room for a brother or sister?" I ask as I squeeze into the window with them.
"Mommy's going to grow a baby in her belly, and then I'll have a brother or sister. Can I help decorate their room, too?" She jumps onto my lap while her mom and I laugh.
"Of course you can. We'll have Bill do your room first, and then if Mommy has a baby in her belly when he's done, we'll talk about the baby's room." Dakota hugs me, jumps off my lap, and runs out of the room. I have no idea where she's going, but I'm sure we'll find out soon.
