Chapter 230 Hospital
Dakota's P.O.V.
I pull out my phone and call 9-1-1. Ari and Xavier go out to the SUV to wait. I don't think it's a good idea to have either of them in here with guns when the police start asking questions. I gently brush Aubrey's hair away from her face while Sarah waits at the door for the medics. I don't care what Aubrey did in the past. She didn't deserve this. I look up when the police and medics run into the room.
"What happened?" One of the officers asks me as the medics begin working on Aubrey.
"We came here to meet with Aubrey. When we got here, the door was open, and we found her like this. Whoever did this to her was already gone," I tell him. He looks at me, then at Sarah.
"What are your names?" he asks as he takes notes.
"I'm Dakota Kondrati, and this is Sarah." I purposely don't say her last name because he doesn't need it. He can ask me any questions he has. The officer's eyebrows raise in surprise.
"Dakota Kondrati. I've heard about your family," he says cautiously. I smile slightly and wink at him.
"You can't believe all the rumors." I pull one of my business cards out of my pocket. I always have a few with me just in case I need them.
"We want to go to the hospital with Aubrey. Please call me if you have any other questions or if you have any updates on who did this to her. She will be staying at my house once she's released from the hospital." He takes my card and slides it into his pocket. Sarah and I follow the medics out of the hotel room and into the lobby.
"Did you get them?" I ask Sarah. She nods but doesn't speak. I asked her to get Aubrey's two phones, which were lying on the dresser. I'm shocked that they were still there. I thought whoever attacked her would have taken them. We get into the SUV, and Xavier follows the ambulance to the hospital.
"Stop," Ari says as he takes my hand. The medical staff wheeled Aubrey behind double doors and told us to go to the waiting room. I hate hospitals.
"Stop what?" I ask him as I begin to pace.
"I know you're blaming yourself, but it's not your fault. Whoever did this to her is to blame." He wraps his arms around me as I close my eyes and take a few deep breaths. How did he know?
"It is my fault. If I hadn't asked her to come here, this wouldn't have happened. She probably saw something she wasn't supposed to see, and they followed her." I never thought I would be so broken up over a woman I had despised, but I don't want anyone to be hurt because of something I asked them to do. Aubrey wants to change. I know she does; I saw it in her eyes, and I'm going to help her get that chance.
"We don't know if this has anything to do with the Tarasovich brothers. Aubrey has pissed a lot of people off over the years. Someone could have seen she was back in town and confronted her. Let's ask her when she wakes up." I know he's right, but until I talk to Aubrey, I'll keep thinking this is my fault.

Aubrey's P.O.V.
My entire body hurts, and I can't move. I hear people talking, but none of what they're saying makes sense, and their voices don't sound familiar. What happened to me? I think hard and remember going to the mansion and calling Dakota. She said she would meet me in the evening. What happened after that?
I got to the hotel and locked the door. I was going to take a hot bath to help calm me down. I remember going into the bathroom, and then someone grabbed me from behind. It was a man, but I didn't see him. He threw me against the wall and kicked me repeatedly after I fell. He hit me with something, but I don't know what; I just know it hurt like a bitch.
I try to open my eyes, but nothing happens. My head is killing me, so he must have hit me in the head. I wonder if he thought I was dead. I need to try to remember things about him. He spoke, but his voice wasn't familiar. He had to be over six feet tall and very strong. Who sent him? No one should know I'm back yet. I feel someone take my hand, and it feels good.
