Chapter 185 Bad People
Ari's P.O.V.
"What's going on?" I ask, looking around at everyone.
"Benny discovered how the fire in our house started. Delia was given a bomb, and she placed it in the living room. A few minutes later, it exploded." I never really cared for Delia. She was too sneaky for my liking.
"Where is she now?" They all look at Valentina.
"Your future stepmom stabbed a fire poker into her heart," Dakota says proudly. Valentina shrugs.
"I don't like snakes." Now I see why my dad is looking at her like that. She's perfect for him. Just like Dakota is for me.
"Do you know who gave her the bomb?" Benny shows me a picture of a woman on his phone, and everyone goes quiet.
"Who is she?" I look at my dad.
"Myra, your mother." I look from my dad to the woman on the phone. This is the woman who abandoned me. She's the one who has constantly made me fear that Dakota may leave me. If my dad and I had been home, she would have killed us.
"Where is she now?" I feel nothing but anger toward her.
"We don't know, but we'll find her," my dad replies. I nod but don't say anything. Everyone leaves except Dakota.
"Are you okay?" She asks while stroking my head. I love it when she does that. It's so comforting and makes me feel loved.
"Better than I thought I'd be. Is it weird that I feel nothing for her? She gave birth to me, but all I see is someone who destroyed my family home and could have killed my dad and me." Dakota kisses my forehead.
"No, it's not weird. You have no emotional ties to her. When we find her, what do you want to do?" Dakota continues to stroke my head, and I look up at her.
"I don't know. Let's talk about that when we find her. Spending this time with Enzo made me think about us having kids one day." Dakota smiles and leans down to kiss me. I put my hand on her head and slide my tongue into her mouth. We haven't had a real kiss with me lying on my stomach. When she moans, I have to stop before I attempt to have sex with her. I don't think my body is ready for that yet, even if my erection is telling me otherwise.
"I can't wait until we have kids. I'm glad you had some bonding time with Enzo. You know you're going to be his big brother one day soon. Galdino looks at Valentina like you look at me. He's in love with her." I chuckle and run my fingers through her long, silky hair.
"I'm happy for him. Enzo is a good kid. That's another thing I want to talk to you about. Where's his dad?" I want to strangle that man for putting his hands on that little boy.
"Valentina said he's in jail, but I'll check that out. Did Enzo tell you what he did to them?" Dakota pulls out her phone.
"He said that he hit him and his mom. He also said he talked mean. Anyone who abuses their kids deserves to die. It's still affecting him. I don't think he wants to leave here because he said everyone is nice. Has Dad said what he plans to do about the house?" I imagine he'll rebuild, but it will take time.
"No, he hasn't said, and I told him everyone could stay here for as long as they wanted. Noah checked, and Enzo's dad is still in prison, but he's supposed to get out in a couple of weeks." I should be mostly healed by that time.
"Good. Let's make sure he pays us a visit so we can give him a proper freedom party." Dakota puts her forehead against mine.
"Do you ever think all this killing will get to us one day? It's not like we're doing anything to good people, but shouldn't we be affected by it?" I understand what she's asking.
"I think it would have a bigger impact if the people who died weren't filled with evil. Think of everyone they have hurt and killed. We're getting justice for them. Do you have any guilt over anyone?" I pull her until she's sitting on my lap.
"No, but I feel like I should. I'm having Rain's birth father brought here, too. He molested her, beat her, and then sold her to a pimp when she was twelve. She wants to be there when he's in the negotiation room. Why are there so many bad people in the world?" I rub her back gently and kiss her forehead.
"I don't know, but at least we can rid the world of some of them." She nods and sighs. There's a knock on the door, and my new favorite little person peeks in.
"Dinner's ready. Courtney already made the chocolate cake because she knew it was your favorite." Enzo walks into the room, and Dakota stands.
"I'll bring your dinner up," she says before kissing me.
"Go ahead and eat down there. I don't want your family to think I'm hogging all of your time. Just bring me something when you're done. Enzo, will you eat dessert with me?" He smiles and nods.
"Yes. Galdino showed me the room I get to sleep in, and it's so big. His room has a bigger bed, so Mommy is going to stay with him. Do you think Galdino can be my daddy?" Dakota looks at me, and I try not to laugh.
"Why don't you ask him during dinner, and then when we have cake, you can tell me what he said?" Dakota laughs and shakes her head.
"I can't wait to see their faces. We'll be back up in a little bit." Dakota kisses me again before she and Enzo leave. We may not be a traditional family, but we're family. I hope they find Myra soon. She's no mother of mine, and I don't have a problem showing her just how little I care about her.
