Chapter 170 Not so Fast
Dakota's P.O.V.
After speaking with Aubrey, I went into the house and looked for Galdino. I don't like her, but I believe what she said. I have to admit she looked pretty defeated.
"Have you seen Galdino?" I ask my parents and everyone else hanging out in the living room. It's funny that they all have so much free time on a weekday, given how hard they work at their jobs. Maybe everyone decided to play hooky today.
"He left a little while ago," Dad says.
"You don't mind us being here, do you?" Mom asks.
"Why would I mind? I love it when you're here." Why do I feel like they're up to something?
"Okay." She smiles, and I narrow my eyes at her, but she quickly begins to talk to Corrine. Something’s fishy. I let it go. I need to talk to Galdino. When I get to the bedroom, Ari is still sitting up, and he has a laptop in front of him, working on the coding Yegor used for the trafficking.
"Do you know where your dad went?" He glances at me and then back at the screen. Right now, he reminds me of Noah.
"He said he got a call from the fire marshal saying he could have access to the house now, so he went to see what he could salvage. Why?" I don't like this, not after what Aubrey said.
"Aubrey was just here and said she overheard one of the families saying they hired an assassin to come after us. I'm going to take a few men over to your dad's house. I'll be right back." Ari looks up at me with concern.
"Do you believe her?" he asks.
"Yes. I don't want to call your dad because if he's in the house and he's not alone, I don't want to be the reason someone finds him." Ari looks at me with concern.
"Please be careful." I strap a knife to my thigh over my jeans and slide another one into my waistband. I don't like guns, but I do like my knives.
"I will. Love you." I kiss him, and he smiles.
"I love you too."
I slide on a pair of ankle boots and go to the security office. Xavier is there with some of our men and Galdino's.
"I need a few men to go to the Buccheri compound with me. An assassin has been hired to come after our families, and Galdino just left to check out his house. Do you know how many men he took with him?" I look at his men.
"Only one. He thought it would be enough. We'll go with you." I nod and turn to Xavier.
"Don't let anyone leave. I want to tell them what's happening and see if everyone will stay here. I feel better having us all under one roof where I can keep them all safe." At least almost everyone is already here.
"I will. Be safe." I nod and follow Galdino's men to one of the SUVs. When we pull up outside the Buccheri compound, I see the man that Galdino brought with him standing outside against the car.
"Where's Galdino?" I ask.
"He went inside and told me to wait out here." I start walking toward the house, and all the men follow me. One of the guys explains why we came.
"When we get inside, I want everyone to spread out and remain quiet. If someone is in there, I don't want them to rush the job because they don't want to get caught." They all nod and pull out their guns while I take out my knife from my waistband. I head upstairs with one man while the others spread out downstairs. When we get to the top of the steps, I point for the man with me to go to the left, and I go to the right.
I slowly make my way down the hallway, looking into each room. When I reach the last room, I hear someone walking and a thump. I then hear a woman's voice.
"Hello, Galdino. I have a message for you. Get ready to see your dad in hell." I kick open the door and see Galdino across the room and a woman to my left with a gun. I don't hesitate as I throw my knife at her, and it hits her hand holding the gun, making her drop it. She lunges for it, but I run and grab her by the hair, throwing her across the room. Galdino joins me and holds a gun to her head. I could have killed her when I threw my knife, but I want answers first.
