Chapter 5: Jean's Memories ( Creatures Of The Night)
***~STAGE~***
***Time lost all meaning as Jean's world went dark, a heavy veil of unconsciousness shrouding her senses, her mind foggy and unresponsive. But when she finally resurfaced, gasping for air, she found herself trapped in a twisted metal cage, the car's wreckage a siniste, inverted landscape.***
***A raw, anguished cry tore from her lips as her body arched backward, her limbs twisted in a tortured pose. Her skin was a canvas of pain, etched with a dozen minor cuts and bruises that seemed to burn with an inner fire, each one a tiny, throbbing reminder of her ordeal.***
***After an eternity of struggling, she finally managed to wrestle free from the seatbelt's unforgiving grip, but her victory was short-lived. As the belt sprang open, she felt herself tumbling forward, her body twisting through the air like a rag doll before she crashed onto the windscreen's broken remains, its rough shards like a thousand tiny knives waiting to rip her apart.***
***A blood-curdling scream tore from her lips as the shattered glass bites into her skin, their razor-sharp edges slicing into her flesh like a thousand tiny scalpels.***
***With a surge of adrenaline, she summoned the strength to shove open the twisted door, its hinges creaking in protest. She then dragged herself out of the wreckage, her body trembling with pain as she crawls across the broken glass and twisted metal to freedom, leaving behind a trail of blood and shattered glasses.***
***The moon cast an wake glow, its silvery light barely piercing the darkness, rendering the surroundings creepy and unclear. She lifted herself upright, her movements slow and tortured, her face a hideous, blood-smeared visage. A deep gash on her forehead oozed a steady trickle of blood flow, like a dark, vital force that threatened to consume her.***
***She limped away from the accident site, her footsteps echoing through the stillness like a death knell. As she reached the main road, she peered into the darkness, her eyes straining to detect the faintest glimmer of approaching headlights. But the night remained stubbornly black, a vast and unforgiving void that seemed to stretch on forever, leaving her feeling small, vulnerable, and utterly alone.***
***With a deep breath, she set forth into the darkness, her footsteps echoing through the stillness like a desperate plea. She walked with a fragile hope, her eyes scanning the horizon for a glimpse of salvation - a distant light, a passing stranger, anyone who might hear her silent cry for help.***
***She walked for while, her legs trembling beneath her, her strength waning with each passing moment. Her tears flowed like a river, a torrent of despair that seemed to have no end. But then, without warning, her sobs were silenced, her heart stilled, as the night air was shattered by the sound of footsteps - a low, deliberate tread that seemed to be stalking her, the footsteps growing louder, closer, with every passing heartbeat.***
***She halted, her breath caught in her throat, as she turned to face the darkness. Her gaze swept the horizon, searching for a glimpse of movement, a hint of presence, but the night remained stubbornly empty. No silhouette, no shadow, no whisper of life. Just the echoes of her own ragged breathing, and the oppressive weight of her own fear.***
***"Is anyone there?" she shouted, her voice cracking with fear, but the darkness remained mute, a vast and unresponsive void. She paused, her chest heaving with ragged breaths, before steeling herself to move forward. But the moment she took her first step, the footsteps resumed - a low, deliberate tread that seemed to be mirroring her every move, a sinister echo that sent shivers coursing down her spine.***
***As she walked, her curiosity got the better of her, she spun around her eyes scanning the darkness for a glimpse of her pursuer, but the darkness seemed to swallow everything whole, concealing everything from her gaze.***
***Panic set in, its icy fingers closing around her heart, and she broke into a frantic sprint, her feet pounding the ground in a desperate bid for escape. But her flight was matched, step for step, by the footsteps, which suddenly surged into a frenzied, pounding sprint, closing in on her with every passing moment, until it seemed as though the very darkness itself was chasing her down.***
***"HELP!" she shrieked, her voice shattering the night air like a fragile glass, as she ran with reckless abandon, her feet pounding the ground in a desperate bid for escape. Tears streamed down her face, a torrent of terror and despair that blinded her to everything except the primal urge to flee, to escape the darkness that seemed to be closing in around her like a living, breathing entity.***
***Through the veil of tears and terror, she spotted a dark shape in the distance, a silhouette that fused into a figure - a man, standing sentinel beside a car, its sleek lines a beacon of hope in the desolate night.***
***Without hesitation, she launched herself towards him, her legs pumping furiously as she devoured the distance, her heart racing with a fragile, desperate hope. She didn't dare look back, fearing what she might see, but instead fixed her gaze on the stranger, her eyes locking onto him like a lifeline, her entire being willing him to be her salvation.***
***"HELP ME!" she shrieked, her voice a raw, desperate plea, as she hurtled towards him with reckless abandon. "PLEASE, HELP ME!" she begged, her words tumbling out in a frantic, breathless rush.***
***As she drew closer, the stranger's features began to take shape, and her eyes widened in stunned recognition. Suddenly, the pieces clicked into place, and she knew, it was him Mr Henry our history teacher. Without hesitation, she flung herself into his arms, her body shaking with sobs of relief. "Oh, thank God, thank God it's you, sir." she whispered, her voice muffled against his chest. "Someone's after me... please, you have to help me..."***
***"You're a long way from home, aren't you?" he murmured, his voice dripping with an unsettling intimacy, his eyes sparkling with a knowing light that made most people's skin crawl. But Jean, her senses dulled by exhaustion and fear, didn't pick up on the creepy undertones.***
***She was too caught up in the simple joy of seeing a familiar face, her relief and gratitude rendering her temporarily oblivious to the danger that might be lurking beneath his kind smile.***
***In a halting, desperate voice, she poured out her story, the words tumbling from her lips in a breathless, panicked rush. She told him of the accident, of the twisted wreckage, of the desperate, lonely miles that had brought her to this forsaken place. And then, her eyes locking onto his with a pleading intensity, she begged, "Please, you have to take me to the hospital. I'm hurt, badly hurt." Her chest heaved with the effort of speaking, her breath still coming in ragged gasps, as she waited, her fate hanging precariously in the balance, for his response.***
***"I'm afraid I won't be able to help you." he said, his voice low and smooth, like honey poured over ice. But his smile, that awful, skin crawling smile, was a different story altogether. It was a smile that seemed to say, "I'm enjoying this." a smile that seemed to savor her fear and her desperation. As he smiled, his eyes seemed to bore into her, a cold, calculating gaze that made her feel like a trapped animal, a gaze that seemed to say, "You're mine now."***
***"Wh...why?" Jean stammered, her voice trembling like a leaf in a hurricane, as she took a slow, faltering step back from him. Her eyes, wide with fear, locked onto his face, and for the first time, she really saw him - saw the smile that twisted his lips, a smile that was more a snarl than a gesture of warmth. It was a smile that made her blood run cold, a smile that seemed to say, "I've been waiting for you." As she gazed into his eyes, she felt a chill run down her spine, a creeping sense of dread that seemed to seep into her very bones.***
***"If I let you go, I might never get this chance again." he hissed, his voice low and menacing, like a snake slithering through dry leaves. As he spoke, his eyes underwent a twisted transformation, the irises blooming into a deep, blood-red hue, like rubies glowing with an otherworldly light.***
***The veins around his eyes bulged and twisted, like dark, snake-like vains, as his skin turned a sickly, pale. His face seemed to stretch and contort, his features elongating into a gruesome, inhuman mask, as if he was being consumed by some dark, ancient power.***
***Jean tried to flee from the terror that was closing in around her, but he was a creature of the night, a monster with supernatural speed and strength. He caught her in mid-stride, his arms wrapping around her like a shroud, pulling her into a dark, eternal kiss. His fangs sank deep into her neck, releasing a torrent of blood and screams, echoing through the night like a chorus of the damned.***
