Dreams

"I am dreaming?" murmured Amelia, her voice soft as a nighttime breeze, and I felt my face blush slightly at the realization she was making. Was she dreaming of me often? The idea brought me a comforting warmth, a spark of hope amidst the darkness that surrounded us.

With a smile on my lips, I joked as I carefully placed her on the bed, "Depends, do you dream of me often?" I tried to keep a light and ironic tone, but the question slipped out before I could contain it.

Amelia, still sleepy, countered as she lazily stretched between the sheets, "Sometimes." Her simple gesture of playfulness was like a ray of sunshine piercing through the dark clouds hovering over us, filling me with a sense of warmth and relief.

But then she added, as she nestled even deeper into the sheets, "Just kidding." Those words were like a bucket of cold water, a harsh reminder that perhaps my hope was just a delusion. But I didn't react, I didn't want to spoil the moment with my own insecurities. She was sleepy, her words were probably just a meaningless ramble.

So, with a faint smile on my lips, I softly murmured, "Goodnight, Amelia." And with one last look, I rose, wishing her dreams were as sweet as she deserved.

As I rose to leave Amelia's room, a boom echoed through the sky, followed by an intense flash that illuminated the entire room. A storm raged outside, unleashing its fury with strong bolts of lightning and sudden flashes that cut through the sky. Now, finally, I understood why it had been so cold outside, a harbinger of the chaos unfolding above us.

A shiver ran down my spine as I watched the storm intensify outside. It was as if the sky itself was weeping, its tears washing the earth in a whirlwind of emotions. But as terrifying as the scene was outside, a wave of gratitude flooded my heart.

I remembered the moment I had been out there, frantically searching for Amelia under the night sky, still unaffected by the storm now unfolding above us. A sense of relief washed over me, knowing that she wasn't out there, exposed to the fury of nature.

It was at that instant that Amelia seemed to abruptly awaken, her eyes snapping open suddenly, flooded with an expression of alertness and confusion. Her body tensed, muscles contracting as if preparing for some imminent danger.

"Amelia?" I murmured, my voice lost in the roar of the storm outside. Her eyes met mine, and I could see the confusion dancing in her deep irises, like a storm of its own wreaking havoc on her mind.

"What's happening?" she asked, her voice a fragile whisper amidst the tumult of the storm. Her eyes sought answers in mine, a mixture of fear and uncertainty reflected in her expression.

"It's okay, Amelia," I said, trying to convey reassurance even as my own mind was in turmoil. "Just a storm. You're safe here."

But her features remained tense, as if she were struggling to understand what was happening around her.

Amelia's eyes narrowed in confusion as she watched me, her expression a mix of surprise and curiosity. "Why are you here?" she asked gently, her voice soft like a whisper amidst the storm.

A weak laugh escaped my lips, tinged with a shame I could barely hide. It was strange to be there, in her room, amidst the raging storm outside. But despite it all, there was something comforting about her presence, something that compelled me to stay by her side.

With a sigh, I approached her, suddenly aware of her proximity. She was so beautiful, even in her confusion, her eyes shining with a light of their own that I couldn't ignore.

Her hands were still stained with dry paint, which made me laugh. Without thinking, I sat on the edge of the bed, allowing myself to look at her more closely. It was an intimate moment, surrounded by darkness and the sound of rain outside, but I couldn't deny the sense of peace that settled in my heart in her presence. And so, as the storm raged outside, the two of us remained there, together, lost in our own thoughts and feelings.

She arched an eyebrow, a gesture of pure curiosity that I had never seen on her face before. And then, with a smirk playing on her lips, she asked a question that caught me off guard.

"Why are you smiling like a goof?" she inquired, her soft voice tinged with amusement and tenderness. The sight before me was a privileged one: Amelia with her tousled, sexy curls, her eyes gleaming with a light of their own that I couldn't ignore.

A warmth crept up my face, but I couldn't help but smile even more at her astute observation. I took a deep breath, taking in every detail of her, every little gesture and expression that made me fall even more in love with her.

"Promise you won't laugh at me?" I murmured, my heart beating erratically in my chest. It was only after uttering those words that I noticed the intense curiosity shining in Amelia's eyes, as if she were eager to hear what I had to say.

With a nervous smile on my lips, I began to explain, "Well... when I arrived here and didn't see you in the garden or in the usual places around the house, I, being the great knight that I am, went in search of you through the village. I spent hours looking for you, like a true hero on a rescue mission," I said, exaggerating a bit for dramatic effect. Amelia laughed, her eyes shining with fascination. Encouraged by her smile, I continued, "And when I returned exhausted, as tired as a horse that had worked all day, I entered my office in desperation, ready to send an official letter for my attendants to set out on a search for you." She smiled, almost laughing at me, but I didn't mind. It was good to see her happy, even if it was at my expense. "But guess what I found when I entered my office?" I asked, leaning closer to her, my hand finding the tip of her upturned nose. She laughed again, her eyes gleaming with anticipation.

"That's right," I continued, letting out a smile. "I found an artist surrounded by thousands of colors of paint." And in that moment, as I looked into her eyes, surrounded by the glow of the colors she carried within, I knew that I wouldn't trade that moment for anything in the world.

I wanted to keep making Amelia laugh, but suddenly something changed. She moved closer to me, just like she did when she first arrived at my home, as if she were recreating that special moment. Without warning, without asking for permission, she simply acted as she always had since the first day she entered my life, winning over my heart without even realizing this great feat!

Her embrace enveloped me, bringing a comfort that I didn't know I needed. It was as if all my fears and worries vanished in that moment, replaced by a sense of peace and happiness. And then, before I could even comprehend what was happening, her face drew closer to mine, her lips finding my cheek in a gentle, warm kiss.

I only realized I was holding my breath when Amelia pulled away, and I finally managed to breathe properly. Then, she broke the silence with her sweet words. "My gallant knight, thank you for setting out in search of your Dulcinea," she said in a theatrical gesture, laughing with that radiant smile that lit up the room.

I raised an eyebrow in protest, jokingly saying, "Are you comparing me to Don Quixote's madness?" She laughed gracefully at my expression, her eyes shining with a love and joy that seemed to infect the entire room. It was impossible to resist her charm, even when she teased me with her hilarious comparisons.

"Of course not, my brave knight," she replied, with a playful tone. "You are much braver and wiser than Don Quixote ever was." Her compliment made me smile.
