Emotions (1)
The minute everyone at the table was done eating, Brianna inched closer to Jeffrey’s ear, “I will shortly use the restroom.” Without giving him time to react, she stood to her feet and moved around the seats at the back where Amy was seated. Leaning down between Noah and Amy, “Can I borrow your date for a moment?” She asked with a smile.
However, Noah did not like that idea at all. First, he was very comfortable with his hand tirelessly around Amy’s waist. Second, he thought that maybe Brianna was seeking revenge due to his date laughing mockingly at her name earlier.
On the other hand, Amy remained silent. If she showed eagerness to Brianna’s request, that would maybe give a hint to others as one could never tell how the mind works. Thus, she thought to relax and let it play out, knowing that Brianna would find her way to ease Noah’s guard.
“For what do you need my date?” Noah asked flatly, thinking that he needed to protect Amy. He felt that Brianna was undoubtedly a vengeful woman due to her physique. She was beautiful and sexy, no doubt, but her face was as hard as that of a military, and he wondered when his friend took fancy to such women?
Brianna almost burst out laughing at his reaction. ‘How stupid is this jerk to play the role of a good boyfriend to someone he barely knew?’ She mumbled inwardly. “Guy, relax. I only wish to get to know her and inquire where she got her dress. Ladies talk. I am sure you guys have no interest in it.” Brianna spoke softly.
Amy finally decided to chime in this time. “It’s okay, Noah. We won’t take long… I will be back before you know it.” Amy turned to face Brianna. Obviously, she knew why Brianna had asked her out. It was to reprimand her for drinking when she should be focused on getting her job done. “ Please lead the way.”
With that, the ladies left the table in search of the washroom.
Just as Amy had expected, the second they found their way to the convenience with the help of the hotel’s staff, Brianna lashed out at her.
“What the hell is up with you, Amy? Have you forgotten who you are? Or your place?” The playful Brianna was no more at this moment but the authoritative one…Amy’s superior.
“Red-Spritz should have been accomplished by now. What happened with that?” Brianna was not having it anymore with Amy’s behaviour.
Like every other agent, Amy knew anyone who had seen their faces was not to know their identity. And right now, the two wandering pricks were the only people in the hall who were about to discover the truth when they apprehended their target using all means shortly. Hence, they were to spike the guy’s drinks with a pill that causes memory loss known as the Red-Spritz. Something she had successfully carried out on her date with ease knowing that, by the time Jeffery woke up the next day, he wouldn’t remember meeting Brianna. But the same couldn’t be said about Amy, which got Brianna severely worked up.
Glaring at the figure before her, “This is your last chance to prove that you have whatever is going on with you under control. Else, I will not think twice about having you cancelled!” With that said, Brianna stormed out of the restroom, leaving Amy behind in vexation.
With her angry superior gone, Amy tiredly rested her back against the restroom wall, thinking how the mission was the last thing on her mind right now. How could anyone expect her to still focus on that cause? He was her mate, for crying out loud. There were more pressing matters at hand than some suicidal mission, she thought.
Amy took her moment to compose herself before she headed back inside.
About twenty-five minutes later…
The auction finally kicked off at around seven fifty-five in the evening after the arrival of the Governor with his family. The aristocrats that filled the hall were bidding outrageously, and almost all focus was on the stage, but Amy registered none of it.
She was resting her back on the chair from suddenly feeling strange. Her palms were sweaty, as well as feeling hot and woozy. ‘Maybe it was the alcohol,’ she thought.
It was good that the light in the hall was dimmed to highlight the one on the stage; otherwise, people would have noticed something was off with her. Also, Noah was like everyone else, concentrated on the auction, which was a relief for her at this moment.
Brianna was another case. Given how inquisitive she was, Amy did her best to not give anything away in her expression even though the place was dark enough for humans to have a clear view of her. They couldn’t have such sharp sight except for paranormal creatures like herself. Still, with how developed technologies had become, Amy knew better than to let her guard down.
Reaching out to grab a glass of water from the table, Amy’s hands were shaking that she almost dropped the glass and gave herself away—particularly to Brianna. Quickly, she retracted her hand and placed it back on her lap, giving up on the water she had intended to have a sip from.
‘Could it really be the liquor’s effect?’ Amy pondered within for a couple of seconds. ‘No, this can’t be any alcohol’s doing.’ She deduced because she had a high tolerance to alcohol thanks to her being a wolf, and the vigorous training she had to undertake before becoming an agent also topped that up.
“Alyx. What’s happening with me?” Amy questioned her mother’s wolf that resided within her since she knew the being would no doubt have an answer to what was wrong with her.
“I am sorry, kid, you are going in heat!” Alyx told the severity of her condition.
Wolves in heat were uncontrollable. They were sexually driven and acted wantonly around any man because the only thing they could think of at that time was how to quench the fire burning inside them. And the last place Amy should be in right now was a hall packed with men.
Hearing what Alyx just said, Amy was stunned. The only words she could form were more questions. “How could this be? How is it even possible? Isn’t my wolf sealed, and I could never go in heat thereof? What changed?” Amy bombarded Alyx with questions as panic settled within her.
Alyx was depressed about the whole situation. “I do not have all the answers to your questions, child. But my guess is because he is close. I can sense Adgan’s aura, and I am confident he also feels mine.” Alyx said in low spirit. “Whatever you decide, kid, I will support you in any way I can. However, we both know I cannot do much to go against him. Maybe you should really consider running away if you do not want to be with him.”
“Yes, I should have perhaps considered it. Maybe there is still a chance for us to do something about that plan.” Amy voiced.
“Yes, we could have.” Alyx sighed dejectedly. “But right now, it is too late because he will be here any second.”
Amy was yet to digest Alyx’s words when the door was pulled open, and the whole world instantly stilled around Amy as a familiar scent wafted her nostrils.
