Chapter 33 — Clash Of Wills
Chapter 33 — Clash Of Wills
She caught the scar near his left cheek bridge, a flicker of human imperfection that only made him more dangerous.
Dark strands of hair fell across his brow, catching the faint light, while the mole under his bottom lip seemed to draw her gaze without effort.
Every inch of him commanded her attention, a presence she couldn’t ignore and he knew it.
Her nerves tensed near him and she forced her eyes downward, but his gaze held her steady.
He pressed a finger under her chin, forcing her eyes to meet his, his gaze sharp and commanding.
“You’re insane if you think you own me,” she shot back, her breath sharp. “You don’t. You never will.”
“I don’t care what fantasy you’re clinging to. Everything you do happens because I allow it, every word you speak survives because I haven’t silenced it.”
Her knees buckled but she held his stare. “You can cage my body,” she said, “but not my soul. I’m not a thing to be owned.”
He leaned slightly closer, positioning himself firmly, ensuring she couldn’t step back. “Your body, your soul, your spirit, it makes no difference, kitten,” he said, his voice low and commanding.
“If I limit your actions, it applies to everything you do here. You can fight it, but consequences remain.”
Her pulse spiked; she wanted to push, scream, anything but her voice only trembled. “You’re suffocating me, Evan. I can’t breathe when you’re like this.”
He remained still, a silent warning in his stance.
“Then don’t breathe, kitten. Just stay. Fight me, claw at me, hate me all you want, just stay.”
His expression hardened, promising consequences. He grasped her chin firmly, leaving her no chance to pull away.
“You will regret this one day. And I swear I will make you regret it.” She spoke without taking a breath, as if she wanted to throw something at him and run.
“Regret?” The word rumbled from him like thunder. “I don’t regret breaking things. I crush them until they forget what they were.”
He tapped the edge of her shoulder lightly, a sharp gesture to make his point. “And you’ll face the results exactly where I decide. When you do, you won’t step aside, you’ll confront the outcome.”
Tears burned her eyes but she forced the words out. “Don’t think I’ll just give in. You may command my body but you’ll never own my will.”
He let out a harsh breath then finally released her, stepping back. “Time will prove it.”
Before she could react further, he locked the door, leaving her no option to leave.
For a heartbeat, they stared at each other, two predators circling.
Then, with a hiss of fabric, she moved to the other side of the bed, clutching the blanket as a shield.
He followed, a low chuckle escaping as she adjusted herself under the blanket, keeping alert and ready.
The next morning, Evan stood in the wardrobe, methodically buttoning his shirt and adjusting his tie. The office waited and it was already past the hour he preferred to leave.
He entered the bedroom to collect his phone and Rolex and his eyes immediately fell on the empty bed.
His brow furrowed as he glanced between the bathroom door and the bed, weighing whether she was even in the room.
A faint crease tugged at his mouth as he searched for her, noticing she’d been waking up later than usual, a quiet rebellion he hadn’t missed.
And even now, he wasn’t sure whether she was still angry or not after what he had done last night.
Gathering his things with measured precision, he made his way downstairs and as he stepped down the two stairs, his eyes swept the lounge. There she was, moving gracefully, placing his breakfast on the table.
A smirk curled his lips the moment she came into view. He let the sound of his footsteps draw her attention, watching her lift her gaze as he approached until he reached her.
Dark amusement flickered in his eyes as he stepped closer. “Finally back to your routine,” he murmured, his voice low and sharp, edged with a hunger that made the air between them suffocating.
“I was beginning to think you planned to keep me hungry… until I devoured you with nothing but my words.”
She shot him a look that could cut glass before speaking.
“Good morning, Mr. Evan Grant. Your breakfast is there,” she said, her tone a little irritated, eyes briefly meeting his as she gestured toward the table.
He chuckled, a dark, low sound, reading the thinly veiled scoff beneath her carefully measured neutrality.
Later that evening, she sat on the balcony of her bedroom, scrolling through her phone after finishing all her usual tasks.
Her legs folded under her, the glow of her phone painting tiny moons across her fingers, the ring catching the light like a silent sentinel.
The evening sky stretched wide before her, as the chilly wind brushed against her skin, making her tilt her neck slightly.
She glanced up, a soft smile tugging at her lips, before the thoughts struck her, and she leaned down her neck.
Will Evan ever be nice to me? Her fingers traced the edge of the phone as she scrolled absentmindedly.
Her mind was elsewhere, tangled in thoughts she couldn’t shake, yet her eyes stayed fixed on the screen.
He’s always so cold and authoritative. It has weakened our relationship, and we’re so distant now, unable to share our hearts. But why?
She shifted her sitting position, biting her bottom lip as her gaze drifted toward the horizon, forgetting the phone entirely.
Does he hate me? Or is there something I can’t see? The way he grips me, even in anger, so possessive, so unyielding?
His behavior unsettled her, but it also confused her. Her elbows slid onto the armrest, fingers curling under her chin.
She searched the darkening sky, like its depths could reflect the truth back to her.
Lost deep in her thoughts, she suddenly shook herself, forcing her mind out of the haze, unlocking the phone again, until her gaze fell on a picture that drew her attention.
She read the headline, her eyebrows twitching, before her fingers tapped it to unfold the full text, and her world stopped.
“Black Stone King Spotted at a Private Resort with Mystery Woman—A Romance or Risky Alliance?”
In a shocking sighting, Evan Grant, the notorious kingpin of the Black Stone Gang, was seen this weekend at the exclusive Seaside Haven Resort with Anna Grint, a 26-year-old woman who has largely stayed out of the public eye. Eyewitnesses report that the pair were seen in a secluded area of the resort, raising questions about the nature of their relationship and whether this is a personal affair or something tied to the shadows of his criminal empire.
Huh? How could you do this, Evan? Are you betraying me?
A cruel thought ran through her mind. Her fingers trembled over the screen, and a jolt of electricity ran through her body.
Her eyes began to glisten as she hurriedly touched the screen, now opening the attached picture, and her body froze.
