Chapter 81. Just A Drink
Prince Vincent
It was a few minutes after Maleficus left me in my room that I decide to stay out in the balcony to fill my lungs with some fresh air and a glass of vodka in my hand. Watching the clear night sky did not give me a restful evening for I know somewhere my father and the warrior wolves of the Royal Pack is fighting the rogues.
I exhaled deeply and gulp down all the distilled liqour inside my goblet. The heat of the liquor just give enough warmth to make my feelings temporarily disappear. If Maleficus did not warn me to follow my father's orders I might have already left the palace by now.
Standing in the balcony with just my sweat pants on, I place the empty goblet above the flat steel railings before letting my gaze run around the sorroundings in front of my room. A tiny movement from the tall screening plants across the lands covering the front view of my bedroom have caught my attention.
"What the!?"
I muttered a series of explitives when I inhaled the air and notice the familiar scent of Ashley not far from my balcony. Before I could decide on the best thing to do, my body acted faster. I rapidly jump from the high balcony allowing my body to land on the green bermuda grass in a soft thud. Slow and easy I managed to locate her exact place and caught her arm when she tried to shout noticing me, my other hand immediately covered her mouth.
"Shhhh you are going to alert the palace guards with your bothersome voice. Nod your head if you agree to come with me and talk about this in peace,"
I pressed her tiny body against my own trying to convince myself that I am not affected by her sweet scent or that the feeling of her being this close to me does not disturb my sanity. I close my lips tightly and waited for a few moments before finally seeing her head move.
"Good. Now start talking."
I put my hands away from her mouth but kept the one holding both her hands backwards. "Can you please let go of me so that I can talk freely?"
Her voice pleading, and laced with emotions that I can tell as both frustrations and despair. I wonder what her problem is?
"Face me, I want to see your eyes while you are talking. I need to know where you are planning to go at this time of night. If you think you can get out of here by outsmarting the guards, then you should think a hundred times again."
I made her turn around so that she can look up to me and meet my gaze. Releasing her hands from my hold but allowing her to keep only a short distance.
Her eyes are a little bit swollen and there is a tiny mark of redness on both the edge which tells me that she might have cried a lot before coming here. Something stirred deep inside of me seeing as how she tries to hide her true emotions and yet fail against my sharp gaze.
"I needed to get out of here and go back home, I can't contact my parents. No one knows from the people working with me as to what is happening aside from what I heard about a war with the wolves in town."
Her voice revealed how worried and distress she is. "And is that the reason why you thought you could get out alone? Don't be stupid! Just by one look at you and the wolves in the palace who does not know you, might break the rules of the pack."
I look at her up and down admiring the tight blouse that hug her body complimenting her soft curves and the skinny jeans match with a white sneakers.
"What rules?"
She frowned and blink twice. "The rule does states not to devour a human even if they are starving to death. I mean it's not like the wolves here are hungry it's just that we have our time to feed and during that period our appetite just increases and it is sometime difficult to control specially for teens."
Her mouth opened wide as she gasped loudly. "Come to my room and let us talk comfortably, someone might see and hear our conversations here."
I grab her arm as gentle as possible and took her to the nearest door leading in to the stairs which rounded upwards into the door of my room.
When I push the door open, I felt her steps pause. She is hesitating, I let out a harsh breath and open my mouth to convince her.
"Come on I'm not going to bite, I promise."
I tried to sound with humor so that she would come in comfortably. "Ok."
She took a deep breath in and walk inside the room with me.
"Don't worry about your parents. They will be alright, my father personally took care of that issue by going out in town with the warrior wolves of the pack."
I let her move forward and followed behind her when she headed for the couch. I was aware of her eyes passed by the bed and diverted her eyes to the single chair.
"When I couldn't contact them I just get so worried, I can't stop thinking of what could have happened to them."
She sat on the single couch with a rigid shoulders looking down on the floor. I went straight to the mini wine bar, took two wine glasses and a bottle of red wine.
I set it up in the counter and pour just enough on both the glasses before handing to her one. "Take this, it will at least make you feel relax."
She looked up at me and hesitated but I watched her intently and encouraged her that it would be alright.
"Just try it."
"But I am not supposed to drink."
She took the glass from my hand and look at the red liquid.
"Of course you can! Who says a sixteen year old girl cannot have a glass of wine? Come on its just about five percent alcohol."
I winked at her and sat at the long couch beside the single chair that she's sitting.
"Alright I will try."
She obeyed my suggestion and took the wine glass to her lips drinking half of the glass content.
"Hmmm not bad."
"See I told you."
I smiled mysteriously and drink the wine in my own glass. She looked so fragile sitting right in front of me, defenseless and so trusting. Yes, I might have agreed to my father's command and keep this girl safe but I am slowly thinking of doing more than just protecting her.
"Have some more."
I took the bottle and poured more liquid inside her glass. She is starting to like the red wine and it is making me feel glad.
"I believed that the Alpha King will protect my parents and the people in town. Your father is the strongest wolf according to the legends."
I shrugged my shoulders and sip at my own glass looking at her mesmerized by the pink color which started to creep on her cheeks. The wine might have done that but it looks adorable on her. A smile played on my lips.
"Yes my father is the strongest."
The words came out of my mouth in a soft mumble, my eyes not leaving hers. She broke eye contact and brought the wine glass to her lips, pressing them against the rim of the glass. A sweet sensation ran through my veins when the sight affected me so much. I envy the wine glass that my first instinct is to grab it from her hands and lick the part where she drank.
"I'm glad you like the wine."
Her eyes trailed back to me after drinking. "Do you really think that my parents will be alright?"
She looked at me with those eyes full of questions and worry. "Oh your such a good girl, worrying too much about your parents will just give you a hard time."
I chuckled and put the glass on the table. This is getting interesting. Unlike me, she is about to finish her third glass of wine and I know that humans have a very low alcohol tolerance especially if she is not used to drinking often.
