Chapter 35. Broken Trust
Jack's POV
I am not certain which one is more unbearable at the moment. The hatred I saw that's emitting from Alpha Zero's figure or the fact that I am betrayed by my own beta. There's only one man who's certain about everything he said and that is Maleficus.
A growl came out from Alpha Zero's mouth which made me choose the first option.
"Alpha Zero! Please hear me out before you unleash your anger, I am ignorant of my beta's intentions. Maleficus can give you the details of the plot if he has confirmed the perpetrator's identity then..
My father was standing still at the corner I know as the Alpha King he will always be in acceptance with the truth. Then Alpha Zero yells again.
"Nonsense! How can I believe your words? What kind of beta betrays his Alpha? If I am right, both of you conspired for this! You expect me to fall to my knees and beg you for the lives of my pack?
I saw the fire in his dark eyes. I see how his rage is fueling deep in the words that he said, i know he is angry and the situation clearly suggests that we are betraying him. My father, the Alpha King, and I. But the Moon Goddess knows the truth and even the reason behind my beta's betrayal.
"Give me a moment Alpha Zero, sir. Let me show you what Beta Matias did, and how he betrayed his Alpha!
Maleficus is trying his best to convince the big man in front of him, shielding me behind with his skinny but tall figure. I pushed him aside not so gently that he almost fell to the ground. I never wanted to be protected by anyone if my opponent were Alpha Zero. If he doesn't hear my reasons then I will fight him!
"I am betrayed! It's not just you Alpha Zero, do you think an Alpha who gave all his trust and respect to his beta will be a fool to do exactly what he wants?
I took a step forward and shouted in his face.
"If we fight now, we will be justifying the fact that my Beta wants us to kill each other. This is what he wants! And for the life of me, I have no idea why! I am a fool to trust him, but let me tell you this. I have never in my life as the Prince of the Royal Pack, wanted to be stripped of the power of another Alpha and take his pack for greed and power!
"I was raised by the Alpha King, I honor my father. I honor the promise of the Moon Goddess that we lead the wolves with peace and understanding!
"That is the reason why we need an alliance, why we keep asking for your presence. That is why peace is maintained. Isn't it enough already that we have the rogues as an enemy?
I saw how a moment of confusion in Alpha Zero's eyes had made him silent for a couple of seconds.
"I want substantial proof that you are unaware of your Beta's conspiracies. I want to know why he yearns for us to start a war!
With those words coming from Alpha Zero I turned towards Maleficus and searched for the look of encouragement in his face, that we have evidence.
I couldn't believe Alpha Zero listened to me. We all know he never listens to anyone except himself.
It must be that he doubted his chance of winning the fight if he started to attack one of us. He is clearly outnumbered and he didn't have a weapon with him. We have Maleficus who can wave magic. Fighting in a wolf form will get him killed, my father has a portion of the power from all the other alphas being the Alpha King.
"Alpha Zero, please sir. Allow me".
Maleficus asked for his hand to be given to him. But Apha Zero just looked at it. He is clearly not trusting anyone in the room right now.
"Please, Alpha Zero. I, King Darius of the North will give you my word that no one in this room wants to harm you or anyone from the Cold Mountain Pack. We wanted peace with all the wolves in this world, we wanted peace with the humans and soon it is our wish to make peace with the rogues".
Alpha Zero turned his gaze to my father who stood still and held his gaze against him.
Very slowly he gave his hand to the wizard of our palace. Then Maleficus closed his eyes and chanted.
"Oh traitor of the wolves, your name is engraved in the stone beneath the earth."
"You betrayed the trust of your Alpha, you dishonor the loyalty you swore to the pack."
"As the Moon Goddess is our witness and guide, she will help us understand the sin of the wolf who exchanges his life in doing whatever his dark heart desires".
Alpha Zero's dark eyes were clouded with vision. A scene that for sure my father and I have no clue what.
When Maleficus stopped talking, Alpha Zero bowed his head and looked down. He didn't show any signs of tension from the vision that Maleficus gave. But then his body collapsed on the floor and a very loud thud was heard inside the archive.
"Oh, I apologize for that Alpha Zero but you gave us no choice".
Maleficus murmured.
I came forward to touch the pulse in his hand and was relieved to feel it beating normally.
"What happened Maleficus? Is he sleeping, did you make him sleep? What if he wakes up tomorrow then he will surely take off your head".
Maleficus swallowed a lump of fear in his throat and before he could speak, my father already came to us and explained everything.
"Son it is better this way, we cannot have the moment of your wedding be ruined by a useless traitor beta! So I instructed Maleficus to make him forget about this issue for five days so he won't be bothering your wedding".
I ran my fingers through my hair and sighed.
"Ah, so you guys temporarily remove his short memory. But what will happen if he suddenly remembers?
My father shrugged his shoulders and said. "We will hand him the traitor beta Matias and let Alpha Zero decide on what to do with him."
