196. The murderer
Alpha King Vincent
My eyes did not leave Alex as he moves towards a nearby table with a box of facial tissue on the top. His hands took a couple of the thin white disposable towels and wipe the blood stain on the back of his knuckles. Calib cleared his throat to remind him that I am waiting, Alex disposed of the tissue and bowed his head towards me.
"I'm sorry your majesty, I was caught up with my interrogation on the last person with Beta Kasim before he died."
He moves to the single couch and took a seat near Alex. "That is why I am here, I want to know what the servant told you about the last moments of Beta Kasim."
"She won't say a word your majesty, I know that the servant knows something but it seems like she would rather die than spill the names of the ones responsible for the Beta's death."
My gaze turns towards the two warriors of Alpha Xander and notices how their attention was glued toward Alex. I already have a hunched but damn! It would be useless without enough evidence to back it up.
"Do I need to go into the prison where this servant is being held and squeeze the truth out of her?"
Alex's eyes widened. "No! Your majesty, I will come back after our meeting and continue the interrogation please do not burden yourself, I will find a way to make her talk."
One of the two warriors let out his breath and look at me. "Forgive me your majesty but our presence is needed in the training hall."
My brows furrowed as I look at both of them. "Right, I have seen you both more than once but I couldn't remember your names?"
I want to learn about their name at least before I convict them of murder.
They look at each other and then the older one spoke first. "My name is Sudhir your majesty and this is my cousin Alkhir, we are both warriors of the Western pack that recently got promoted into higher ranks."
I nodded my head, they are here ever since Rio was the Alpha of the West. They could be his follower who secretly helps him behind Alpha Xander's back. The older one named Sudhir looked like he is more experienced and clever enough to toy with Alpha Xander but his tricks will never work with me.
"You two can leave and attend to the visitors who want to see Beta Kasim, let them know I will follow after a while."
"Very well our majesty."
They made a short bow in front of me and left the three of us, closing the door gently behind them. I leaned my back against the couch and notice how Alex did the same.
"You look like hell Alex, it must be better if you take a nap tonight. I need you in a good condition in the following days."
That made him straighten himself from the couch. "Your majesty, I almost learn the truth from the servant if I stop then maybe I won't find another chance."
I shook my head. "Calib is here now, we can do it before we join the others in the training hall. I already have an idea of who is the people responsible for his death, however, the confession of the servant is very important."
Calib tap Alex on the shoulder. "Get some rest Alex, Alpha Xander is taking a nap too. Let me handle it for now."
"But your majesty, the warriors need me here the most if Alpha Xander is resting."
My eyes sharpened as I look at his face. "Get some rest Alex before I let Calib use force to put you to sleep. In your condition now, you cannot win even against the lowest rank warrior of the Royal pack."
Alex lowered his head in defeat. "I will have a few hours of sleep your majesty."
Calib smiled at him. "Sweet dreams Alex, I'll wake you up after the sun rises."
He groaned and got up from his seat and leave. Calib waited for my instructions as I watch the door where Alex exited.
"We must go to the prison where this servant is restrained, it will be much easier to get the truth out of her since I am the Alpha King."
Calib's eyes widened and he stood up. "You are right your majesty let us do it now before those two get there first."
We look at each other and agreed on the same idea that the traitors to Alpha Xander's pack are those two warriors who just left. Their stench of betrayal is trying to surface no matter how they try to hide it. Calib opened the door and we face the warriors of the West guarding the gates.
"Good evening your majesty!"
They all bow their heads to me in respect. "I want to know the quickest path into your prisoners."
The warriors look at each other. "Your majesty, do you perhaps want to question the servant being held in prison for poisoning Beta Kasim?"
"Yes! And I don't have time to wait. One of you should lead us there now!"
The other warriors look terrified as they sense my Alpha blood rising. "Right away your majesty please follow my lead."
One of them volunteered promptly and walk ahead of us. He opened the small gate on the other side of the area. We followed him on the rough road where a vehicle could not pass, the dirt on the ground marks our shoes every time we took a step closer to the stench of wolves being confined in the prison.
Trees and tall grass are covering both sides of the small road. The warrior walk faster as I followed him, giving his movements a little pressure so we could arrive at the area faster. After half an hour of walking on foot, we arrive at a clearing with a stone door on the ground. It should be lifted by two wolves to open it and two other warriors are standing beside the door.
Their faces got alerted when we came into view and their gazes automatically follow me.
"Good evening your majesty!"
They fall on their knees and to the ground as they sense my Alpha King's power bringing them to submission. The two are lower ranks warriors.
"Open the door now! I came to talk to the prisoner who is convicted of the crime of poisoning Beta Kasim!"
"Yes, your majesty!"
Their voices tremble as they stood up and lifted the stone door open. I signaled my hand to allow the warrior to lead our way into getting inside first. Then I came after Calib.
"Keep the area clear, no one is allowed to come in until I finish inside."
The lower-rank warriors nodded their heads. "Yes, your majesty."
It was dark on the inside of the underground prison but the light of the candles on each side of the pathway created light to show the ground. The cries of the wolves inside the prison echo in the air but they quickly stop when I make my presence visible.
"Your majesty she is confined in the farthest right corner of the prison."
I nodded, and follow him on the path he pointed. Calib look at the wolves in silence as we passed by the other prisoners in their cells, they all have a chain attached to their one foot. After walking a minimal distance we arrive at a cell, but a stench has alerted my nostrils and I stop walking.
"What's wrong your majesty?"
Calib stop and asked me. I growled and the prisoners in all the cells whimpered in fear. The warrior leading us fall to the ground on his knees.
"It's too late for us to talk to her!"
I uttered in anger.
Calib runs to the cell and looks at the body of a she-wolf lifeless and bath with her blood on the ground. The small door of her cell is also open.
"I'm so sorry your majesty, something must have happened."
The warrior bowed to the ground on his bended knees. I look at him and snarled.
"Tell me who came here first before us, you must have led somebody in before we asked you!"
He groaned and trembled as I pick him up from the ground with my fingers curled around his neck. "I am asking you a question, you answer!"
"The lead warriors your majesty, Sudhir and Alkhir came to talk to her just a minute before you came at the gates."
I released his neck and close my eyes to calm my rage. How dare those two! "I want you to testify tomorrow as I convict the two murderers in front of Alpha Xander."
The warrior nodded with his tear-filled face I signaled Calib to get out of the cell and we go back to the mansion.
