Chapter 10. The Dinner
Jack
My patience is being tested as I sit in the dining table's chair waiting for my mate and her sister to come down. It has been minutes since I sent Gemer to fetch them from my room. Her father is sitting quietly on my right side, beside him are two of my pack members Jonil and Michael. Beta Matias is sitting opposite me and so the three empty chairs on my left side are for Gemer and the two ladies, my mate and her sister.
Three of my best pack warriors are outside on guard duty as we are always vigilant for our safety. A few more minutes had passed when I caught her scent getting closer, my nose slightly flared and my eyes a little sharp as I stared at the wide entrance of the dining room.
"Oh Daddy, I'm so glad you came".
Here she comes rushing towards her father as soon as she gets inside the dining room. In response, her father quickly stood up and met her before she could even pass behind me. I groaned in protest but I stayed seated in my chair.
"I'm here Carmela, so sorry baby we were so worried about you but we have no clue where you are."
Charlie hugged her and kissed his daughter's forehead while trying to apologize for her situation. He tried to lower his voice for Carmela's ear only but as an Alpha of the wolves, it is all vivid to me.
"It was a good thing that Alpha Jack and Beta Matias visited the house to inform us about you're location. Do not worry my dear you are safe, Alpha Jack assured me. As well as our entire family".
He cupped my mate's face and gave her soothing words regarding the situation.
"Oh Daddy! I want to go home please take me with you".
Hearing those words from my mate's mouth made my patience overflow. Is that really what she wants?
"Enough! The food is getting colder. Carmela, take a seat beside me and eat. I don't want to hear any more protests coming from you!
I slammed my right fist on the table which made all the utensils go up and down farther from each other and made the cups and saucers clank.
"Carmela let's talk again later sweetie. Sometime after dinner, please go and have a sit beside Alpha Jack".
I saw how Charlie stiffened and cowered at my angry voice and Carmela's face turned red. They should stop talking behind me like I didn't exist because it's disrespectful to me being the alpha and her mate.
"We apologize, Alpha Jack, my daughter just missed her family so much".
I waved my hand dismissing his words.
"Let's start the dinner..come and sit Charlie".
Ignoring his apology I motioned him back to his chair and he followed like a good man. That calmed me down just a bit. I watched out of the corner of my eye as Carmela sat down next to me. She slightly trembles in fear and I know it is my fault. I then started taking the big serving spoon and focused on putting food on her plate.
"Ah...that should be enough Alpha Jack...thank you".
She managed to say looking down at her plate with half the vegetables and the other half some chicken fay. I drop the serving spoon back into the big plate with a clink.
Losing my appetite for normal food I turned to my glass of red wine and put it to my lips, I gulped down almost half of it, and when I put it back on the table the cook Hadil immediately came to pour me some more.
There was no noise in the dining room except for the sound of spoons and plates and the people chewing their food.
"Alpha I have already arranged for our flight the day after tomorrow is there anything you want us to do before that?
Beta Matias casually asked the question. I let his words sink in to the people around the table before I answered, I heard Carmela gasp in surprise. She dropped both her spoon and fork from her hands onto her almost empty plate.
"I will discuss it later with you Matias, thank you for telling me that. Do come to my library later this evening after you escort Charlie and his daughter back to their residence".
I have thought of more things to do before the said departure but I don't want to discuss it over dinner with a hunter's ear listening to us. It's not like I don't trust Carmela's Dad but it's better if he only has limited knowledge about our pack.
"I'm sorry... I am already full and I need to get some rest. Please excuse me..Hannah! Can you follow me in the room please i have more things to talk about".
Carmela's voice sounded like a gurgle with an obvious lump in her throat. I can feel a little bit of her pain but I am more than glad for the news of our departure the next day. We have an opposite reaction to that news though.
"That's alright Carmela but don't keep your sister too long, they have to go back and Matias will drive them. But I need my beta to come back earlier for a very important discussion so make it fast".
I held warning in my tone, whatever she wanted to tell her sister it's not going to be of importance anymore. She won't be seeing her for a very long time or she might not see her anymore. Most humans who turned into werewolves can no longer find a connection with their previous human family even though they remain in their memories.
"Thank you, Alpha Jack, I won't take much of Carmela's time. Just maybe some girl talk and then my Dad and I will be heading home."
Her sister Hannah shyly said to me before following her up the stairs. I just nod my head towards her.
After the two women left, I stood up and told myself I'm just going to do some paperwork in the library. Humans do have a lot of things to do, such as transferring some assets to another person. Maybe it isn't complicated back in the Royal pack because there's only one owner of the entire place, and that's the King of Alpha.
"Thank you for the wonderful dinner Alpha Jack, and I hope you and my daughter will find happiness when the time comes". Charlie says with a hint of sadness in his voice. Now I know that he would miss his daughter but he can't do anything about her fate.
"You're welcome Charlie, and thanks to my cook Hadil, You enjoyed everything she did."
The old lady cook grinned from ear to ear.
"Thank you Mrs. Hadil". Charlie thanked the cook who was standing nearby.
"You're welcome Mr. White and no need to worry so much about Carmela because when we arrive in the palace I will be in charge of cooking her meals every day."
Charlie just smiled a little at our house cook.
"Thank you for tonight Charlie and remember first thing tomorrow morning the documents of the Diner will be on your doorstep."
His eyes glowed and he gave a wide smile to me before he bowed his head a little bit.
