Chapter 223
Chapter 223
Samuel pouted his little mouth, "Brown sounds so awful. who would want that last name!"
William asked urgently,
"Don't you know Sarah Brown?"
Samuel thought to himself, What kind of logic does this dad of mine have? What kind of questions is he asking?
"Which family's nanny is she? I've never heard that name."
The tension in William's eyes gradually eased, and his anxious heart settled back down. When that vicious woman escaped back then, he was terrified that the pill he'd forced her to take hadn't worked and she'd given birth to the child.
Now, seeing that this little kid didn't seem to be lying, he relaxed completely.
As long as this child wasn't born to Sarah, it didn't matter who the mother was.
"You said I'm your... dad?"
Samuel nodded,
"I'm not sure, just suspicious." After all, he'd searched online for so long and only found this one man who had any connection with his mommy—he was the prime suspect.
William sat down next to Samuel. The word "dad" stirred up some strange emotions in his heart, and he thought of his two babies who never got to be born.
This little guy talked like an adult and said shocking things, but he wasn't annoying at all. William usually found children noisy, but surprisingly found this little one quite interesting. He had a pile of work to do, yet here he was chatting with a tiny kid.
"Did you get separated from your family? Why are you alone?"
Samuel rolled his eyes at him, clearly displeased with being treated like a little kid.
"Only little kids get lost. I'm already over four years old!"
William raised an eyebrow.
"Alright, four-year-old Samuel, let's talk about something between men. Do you have someone you like?"
Samuel was about to say that his favorite person was of course Mommy, but the words stopped at his lips. He felt he couldn't let this man lead him by the nose - he was here to test him for Mommy. If he didn't pass, Samuel wouldn't want an unqualified dad.
His big eyes rolled around, "You go first!"
William leaned back on the sofa, his expression becoming somber. These past few years he'd lived in depression and never confided in anyone, yet now he was opening up to a four-year-old.
"I have someone I like very, very much, but I used to be so stupid and stubborn. I didn't know how much I liked her, and I did many things that hurt her. It wasn't until she completely left me, left this world, that I realized I couldn't live without her and couldn't get used to a world without her."
The more Samuel listened, the angrier he got. So his heart belonged to a woman who was no longer alive - no wonder Mommy didn't want him. Scumbag!
He didn't deserve to be his dad.
He immediately gave this man a failing grade in his heart.
All the questions he'd planned to test him with, he swallowed back. If dad liked someone other than Mommy, that was already breaking the ultimate rule, crossing his bottom line.
Samuel angrily threw the photo onto the sofa, jumped to the floor and started to leave.
William quickly stopped him,
"Where are you going? Give me your dad's phone number; I'll help you contact him."
Samuel said angrily,
"My dad is a big scumbag. I don't want him, and my mommy doesn't want him either. Let him be lonely forever!"
William didn't know where this little kid's anger came from. Just a minute ago they were chatting so well; the atmosphere was so harmonious, like old friends despite the age gap.
"Samuel, are you mad at me?"
Samuel's little mouth pouted,
"I'm not mad at you. I'm mad at that big scumbag."
He finished speaking and pushed the door open to leave. William gave James a look, signaling him to follow. Such a small child running to his office alone - they should at least help report it to the police.
James quickly followed. Samuel had already run to the executive elevator he'd taken earlier and was standing on tiptoes to press the button.
James reached over to help him press it,
"Little guy, not looking for your dad anymore?"
These days, there were so many scammers. After confirming this boy wasn't William's child, he felt even more that the child had come with a purpose. Why would he leave so easily?
Samuel firmly denied what he'd said earlier about William being his dad. A scumbag dad like that - he didn't want him!
"No way, I wasn't looking for my dad."
Just then, his phone watch rang. Samuel pressed the answer button,
"Aurora, I just got lost. Wait for me at the dessert shop, I'll be right there."
Hearing the little boy say this, James became more alert. This was too similar to those organized scams circulating online.
He now felt that this 'Aurora' was definitely the head of this gang, using a four-year-old child to scam people - how inhuman.
Samuel left the Morgan Group building and went straight into the dessert shop next door.
Aurora had been waiting forever without seeing him. She went to check the bathroom but couldn't find him. She checked the surveillance footage but there was no video of him entering the bathroom. She'd called so many times with no answer.
She was completely panicked. If she lost the child, her old life wouldn't be enough to compensate.
When Aurora saw Samuel walking back to the dessert shop unhurriedly, she ran a few steps and hugged him tightly, tears streaming down.
"Oh my goodness, did you get distracted by something fun again?"
Samuel's little brain worked quickly, going along with Aurora's words.
"Aurora, I just saw a big boy with a Transformer toy, it was so cool."
Aurora released Samuel and checked if he was hurt. Seeing he was safe and sound, she felt relieved,
"Samuel, don't run off again next time, okay? Are you hungry?"
His little cake on the table was untouched.
Sophia's portion was already half eaten. Sophia looked at her brother with starry eyes, really wanting to know about Daddy from him, but with Aurora there she couldn't say anything - this was their little secret.
Outside the window, James had followed Samuel to the door. Through the glass he could see a middle-aged woman hugging the little boy and wiping away tears, looking very anxious—clearly like someone who'd lost a child and found them again, that joy of recovery.
He looked at the table again and recognized the brand of water bottle on it. Ava used to like that brand of thermos when she was around—the price wasn't cheap, not something ordinary families' children could afford.
What was he worried about? This kid's clothing and manner of speaking showed he wasn't ordinary—how could he be a scammer?
James turned back to the office, laughing at himself for being silly.
Samuel was quite disappointed with this outing, so disappointed that even facing his beloved blueberry cake, he had no appetite. He barely ate a few bites before insisting on going home.
Scumbag dad - he was going to punish him for Mommy!
Aurora brought the two children back to the hotel, her heart still racing. Samuel instead comforted her,
"Aurora, can you not tell Uncle Robert and Mommy about today? If they know, they'll never let me go out again."
Samuel put on a pitiful expression. Aurora nodded,
"Samuel, next time you need to use the bathroom, I'll go with you and wait outside the door."
