Chapter 180
William drove to the hospital and carried Sarah straight into the obstetrics and gynecology emergency department.
Several doctors gave Sarah a full examination. The result was that she had been frightened, and they recommended hospitalization for observation to ensure the baby's safety. Physically, aside from a minor injury to her knee, marks on her arms from being grabbed, and signs of being hit on her face, there was nothing else wrong.
Once he confirmed there were no major problems with her health, William breathed a sigh of relief. At least he had found her.
What a long day and night it had been - his heart had been in his throat like riding a roller coaster. At least the outcome wasn't too bad.
Sarah was still unconscious. He had James stay there to watch over her while he went to the inpatient building. He needed to get to the bottom of this with that woman.
When he arrived outside Ava's room, she had already completed her discharge paperwork and was packing her things.
When Ava saw him come in, she ignored him and continued clumsily packing with her bandaged hand. After a day of observation with nothing serious, she could go home to recover.
It was really just a minor cold and exhaustion from lack of rest. She really didn't like the smell of disinfectant in hospitals, and she had a certain psychological fear of them.
When she was little and saw Nancy die in front of her, lying on a hospital bed just like these, it left her somewhat traumatized. Whenever her body could hold up, she preferred to stay at her own home.
"It was you, wasn't it?"
William asked out of nowhere.
Ava paused, mechanically curling her lips.
"What is Mr. Morgan asking about? If you don't make your question clear, what do you expect me to answer?"
William crossed his arms over his chest, looking at her with unfamiliar eyes as if interrogating her.
"Why did you do it? Do you know how scared everyone was yesterday? Nola went completely crazy! Sarah is still unconscious."
Ava was used to him always taking Sarah's side first in any matter, analyzing things from Sarah's perspective, and accusing her from Sarah's position.
She asked back,
"When you ask me why I did this, why don't you first ask what she did?"
William snorted.
"I've had her locked up these past two days. What could she have done? Can she clone herself or something?"
Ava knew arguing was pointless because he was blind and unwilling to hear her explanation. Talking more would be useless.
"Please leave. I need to change clothes."
She was leaving the hospital, and the only clothes available were the pajamas she had been wearing when she rushed out the door that day.
William looked at the clothes on the bed, his eyes showing some mockery.
"You're going out in that? Aren't you afraid of others seeing you - or me seeing you?"
Ava rolled her eyes at him, too angry to speak.
Just then James called. William answered in front of Ava.
"What is it?"
"Mr. Morgan, Miss Brown woke up crying, saying she's in a lot of pain, saying someone is squeezing her belly."
William hadn't gotten any useful information here. Ava neither admitted nor denied anything, so the culprit was basically confirmed to be this seemingly weak and gentle woman who had been sleeping beside him for three years.
But he couldn't be bothered to settle accounts with her right now. Holding his phone, he hurried out toward Sarah's room.
In Sarah's room, an extra bed had been added, and Nola had actually been admitted too.
When Steven saw William come in, he left the delirious Nola and came over, bowing and scraping with a smile on his face.
"Mr. Morgan, you must get justice for our Sarah! This time we must call the police and catch the person behind this. Someone must have orchestrated it. My poor daughter almost had a miscarriage!"
Steven deliberately brought up Sarah's pregnancy to anger William, making it sound so serious.
William had already heard a detailed report from the doctor when he brought Sarah in - the baby was fine. He was disgusted by Steven's attitude.
Thinking of Ava's infuriating little face, he held back and warned Steven,
"Don't call the police about this. If I find out you secretly reported it, you can forget about that project you have!"
Steven was so scared he covered his mouth.
"Understood, we won't call the police. Mr. Morgan surely has a way to deal with that bad person."
In the room, Sarah was still crying out that someone was squeezing her belly. After examining her, the doctor came to William to report.
"Miss Brown may be experiencing abnormal contractions due to some shock or fright, caused by extreme stress. This is very bad for the baby. We need to take some medical measures to calm her down now."
William nodded his approval.
"Do what you think is best, just make sure nothing happens to anyone."
After an injection, Sarah calmed down, lay back on the bed, and fell asleep again.
On the other bed, Nola had completely lost her mind, babbling incoherently, not responding to anyone, her eyes unable to focus. Her hair was a mess, but at least she had been changed into clean hospital clothes and no longer smelled.
William glanced over with disgust. This was a single VIP room. Steven had come in such a hurry that there were no spare single rooms available, so he had begged the nurses to put an extra bed in Sarah's room so he could look after both of them.
But looking at them now, it seemed inappropriate to keep them together. Nola had gone crazy, and her presence was preventing Sarah from resting.
"Take her to see a psychiatrist."
William coldly threw out the order.
Steven refused to believe his wife had gone crazy - it would be so embarrassing if word got out. He thought if she just slept or rested for a while, she would come around.
"Mr. Morgan, let's observe her a bit more."
William frowned, his hawk-like eyes looking over. He really disliked this old couple.
"This is an obstetrics ward. Is she about to give birth or is she pregnant?"
William's words scared Steven into silence.
Just then, James came in from outside.
"Mr. Morgan, the specialist from Lumaria has landed and been picked up by our people. They're on their way back to Lakeview Estates now."
William raised his eyebrows slightly, looked back at the sleeping Sarah, and instructed James,
"Get a few more bodyguards to watch over her. Something like yesterday can't happen again."
In Sarah's current state, she couldn't be examined now.
Steven heard every word of this conversation, and his face turned pale with fear.
The specialist William had found was already here, and they hadn't come up with any useful plan yet. Once the specialist examined Sarah, everything would be exposed.
As soon as William left, Steven paced around anxiously like an ant on a hot pan.
Now one of these two women had gone crazy and the other was asleep - there was no one he could discuss countermeasures with. This matter had reached a critical point, and he wasn't sure when William would send the specialist to diagnose Sarah.
It was impossible to do anything to that specialist now. He had heard William tell his assistant to get more bodyguards - the specialist was already under protection. Who could create an accident right under the noses of William's people?
Steven was going crazy.
After leaving the room, William's mind was filled on one side with Ava's innocent expression hiding a streak of ruthlessness, and on the other with Sarah's panicked face.
He hadn't finished talking in Ava's room earlier, so he circled back, only to find the room empty.
The two young nurses from yesterday were still at the nurses' station outside, whispering to each other when they saw him pass by.
He went back to the nurses' station and asked,
"Where's the patient from room 1206?"
The young nurse was stunned for a moment before replying,
"She just checked out."
William still hadn't figured out why she had been hospitalized. Remembering that he couldn't find Dr. Hill yesterday, he strode toward the outpatient building with James.
She didn't come to him for anything now - she didn't even let him know when she was sick and hospitalized. William felt really uncomfortable about it.
