Chapter 175
"Still feeling cold?"
William walked over and asked tentatively. When he saw her hands wrapped up like a mummy, his expression suddenly turned gloomy.
"What happened to your hands?"
Ava didn't want to talk to him then. Everything she was going through was because of his unforgettable first love. If he hadn't been so wishy-washy and kept giving Sarah false hope, she wouldn't have gotten worse each time.
Lucas stepped forward to block Ava, confronting William.
"You've got some nerve asking that. Go back and ask what your little lover did!"
William frowned. Sarah was locked up by him, so Lucas had no basis for saying that.
"I wasn't asking you. Ava, come out here!"
He shouted at the person behind Lucas, acting all high and mighty.
Ava paused, then came out from behind Lucas's broad frame.
"William, let's go get the divorce papers done now. You must have a way to skip that thirty-day waiting period, right? I can't take this anymore. Please!"
Her voice was weak, begging to leave him.
A sharp look flashed in William's eyes.
"I'm asking about your hand. Explain that first."
Ava spoke through the pain.
"Sarah destroyed my mother's grave. You don't have a problem with me doing something about it, do you?"
William's chest tightened. Hearing such an unbelievable thing directly from her mouth, he needed to make a call to confirm.
He dialed the maid taking care of Sarah in front of everyone.
"Has Miss Brown gone out these past few days?"
On the other end, the maid's water glass slipped from her hand. She had watched William grow up and knew his cold and ruthless nature. If he found out she hadn't watched Sarah carefully yesterday and let her wander around outside for half the day before coming back, he would definitely fire her.
She figured since nothing happened to Miss Brown anyway, he wouldn't know if she lied.
In just a few seconds, she came up with a story.
"Mr. Morgan, Miss Brown hasn't left the house."
William asked again.
"Did she receive any strange phone calls?"
"No."
William hung up, his eyes showing some displeasure.
"Ava, you need evidence when you make accusations. You can't just believe hearsay. You're being too rash."
Ava's face was stern. She had expected his attitude—after all, this wasn't the first or second time he'd taken Sarah's side.
"William, you can protect her all you want. You protect your person, I'll get my revenge. And whoever tries to stop me, I'll deal with them too."
Her tone was calm, but carried a fierce determination.
William curled his lip disdainfully. Big talk!
The conversation was interrupted by a ringtone. Ava went back to the hospital room to get her phone. It was Jack calling.
"Ava, I took people to the cemetery this morning. Your mother's grave has been repaired, and there's a new headstone."
Ava was surprised.
"Wasn't it your people who did it?"
"No. It was already replaced when I got there. The cemetery caretaker said a man in his thirties came with flowers to pay respect this morning. When he found the grave destroyed, he got really angry, replaced all the security guards, and brought people to fix the surveillance cameras. Don't know if they can be fixed, though."
Ava fell into thought. Who could it be?
"Ava, I found some friends—they're pretty skilled, all trained fighters."
Ava's thoughts were pulled back.
"Have them come see me. I have things to tell them."
Jack paused, then advised.
"Ava, keep things under control. Don't let it get out of hand."
After hanging up, Lucas came with a caregiver.
Ava leaned weakly against the hospital bed.
"Lucas, I'm getting discharged tomorrow. I'm not that delicate."
Lucas sat down in the nearest chair.
"Cut the crap. Take good care of those hands. I still want to see you slap William in the face."
Ava smiled helplessly.
"You don't need hands to slap someone in the face!"
Ava hadn't slept all night, and her mind was foggy. A person's energy is limited—she really couldn't hold on anymore, and she was worried about the two babies in her belly.
"Lucas, I want to sleep for a bit."
Lucas nodded.
"Then sleep. I won't bother you. Call me if you need anything, don't be shy. The caregiver will be here with you. Remember not to get your hands wet."
Lucas nagged for a while before leaving. When the room quieted down, Ava's mind was preoccupied with many things. She forced herself to close her eyes and rest—there was still a battle ahead.
Meanwhile, William came out of Howard's hospital room and went straight to the nurses' station near Ava's room.
"Who's the attending doctor for room 1206?"
The young nurse was stunned for a moment. She rarely saw such a handsome patient's family member and couldn't help but look a few more times. Crushing aside, she still had to remember her professional ethics.
"Sir, we have rules about not disclosing patient information."
William sighed and opened his phone to show a photo of their marriage certificate.
"See that? I'm her husband. Can you tell me now?"
The young nurse froze. She saw the name 'William Morgan' on the certificate, looked up at him again, and realized he was even more handsome than the photos online. No wonder that first glance felt familiar—it really was the Morgan Group CEO.
The pregnant woman in room 1206 was his wife.
The young nurse felt like she'd stumbled onto major gossip. Suppressing her curiosity, she said,
"Your wife's attending doctor is Dr. Aaron Hill."
After William said "thank you" and left to find Dr. Aaron Hill at the outpatient clinic, the young nurse stood there dazed for a while before coming to her senses. She grabbed a colleague nearby and shouted excitedly,
"That man just now was actually the Morgan Group CEO William, the one who made headlines a few days ago being all lovey-dovey with his wife. Turns out they're having a baby. So happy."
The other nurse said excitedly,
"If we post this gossip online, would we get lots of followers?"
Their eyes met, and they smiled knowingly.
William brought James to the outpatient building. Just as they reached the entrance, two ambulances pulled up. The doctor in the white coat at the front shouted inside,
"Everyone, please clear a path quickly. All medical staff on site, come help immediately."
After that, doctors and nurses in the lobby ran out to help carry people. There had been a gas explosion at an apartment complex with heavy casualties. The hospital was thrown into chaos, and all doctors not in surgery were called to consult.
James ran to check Dr. Hill's office and came back to report,
"Mr. Morgan, Dr. Hill went to consult too. Should we wait for him to come out?"
William glanced at his watch. He had a meeting later and probably didn't have time.
"Next time then."
Ava slept until noon, her head still foggy. Her cold seemed worse. She begged the doctor to give her an IV drip—she had to be discharged the next day. She couldn't let those two vicious women do whatever they wanted.
She would make them pay for their evil deeds.
Getting up to check her phone and saw several missed calls, including one from Jack. She called back. After just a few rings, Jack answered.
"Ava, the people I found are at the hospital. Since you were sleeping, I didn't wake you. If it's convenient, you can have them come in now."
Ava checked the time. She'd slept all morning.
The caregiver brought in food, but she had no appetite.
"Let my visitors in first."
Within a minute, several burly men entered the hospital room one after another.
