Chapter 104

Chapter 104

As William walked away, Sarah and Emily followed along.

"This horse is called Sea-Bird, and it has a bad temper. If you want to ride, let Emily introduce you to a gentle one."

William pointed at the horse Ava was feeding.

Among all these horses, he only recognized that one. Daniel had bought it at a high price, but after riding it once, he broke his leg and was bedridden for three months. In his anger, he almost had it killed for meat.

William thought the horse looked quite appealing, with a patch of white hair in the center of its forehead shaped like a heart. So he took it over and put it in his own stable for professional trainers to work with.

Emily was familiar with this place and knew exactly which horses were wild-tempered. She scanned the stable and quickly spotted a horse with a brown coat and a black tail.

"William, that brown one with the black mane would be good for Ava to ride."

Sarah stood quietly listening to their conversation. She kept thinking about William and Emily's exchange - Ava was pregnant, yet he was still having Emily recommend horses for her to ride. Could it be that he didn't know about Ava's pregnancy yet?

Ava paused for a moment and replied, "I don't want to ride."

How could she dare ride a horse now? That would be asking for trouble.

William thought she was simply scared and tried to encourage her.

"Don't worry, there are professional trainers. They can take you for a ride."

Sarah stood aside and snorted coldly. After William's words just now, she could confirm that no one knew about Ava's pregnancy yet.

When she first discovered that Ava was pregnant, she was so alarmed. Turns out that woman's position with him wasn't that important after all - she didn't even dare tell him about the pregnancy.

Sarah felt much more relaxed. She realized she had been taking Ava too seriously before - Ava was no match for her at all.

She stepped forward and stood outside the stable, looking in.

"Since we're already here, let's each pick a horse and take a few laps, see if Emily's horses run fast or not."

Emily chimed in,

"Sarah, you ride that little red horse, I'll ride the white one, and the brown one for Ava."

She turned to look at the two remaining men.

"You two can pick from the rest."

Ava stepped back.

"You guys ride. I'm wearing a dress, it's not convenient."

Emily became unusually enthusiastic.

"Ava, don't be a spoilsport. We all came out to have fun together, how can we leave you behind? I'll have someone bring clothes over. Sarah's wearing a dress too, and she didn't refuse."

Emily immediately took out her phone and called to have clothes delivered.

At this point, Lewis, who had been silent for a while, spoke up.

"You guys ride, I'll take photos for you."

If Ava wasn't playing, he wouldn't either. Maybe while they were riding, he'd have a chance to chat with Ava.

William coughed.

"If no one wants to play, don't bother the horses."

Ava's face didn't look good, and she felt nauseous again, probably from eating too much. Fighting the discomfort, she quickly walked toward the bathroom. She regretted finishing William's sandwich - even her burps tasted like fried eggs.

This time, she emptied her stomach completely. The nausea disappeared, leaving only a burning sensation in her throat. She went to the sink to wash her face, reached for a paper towel on the wall, but before her hand got there, she saw someone hand her one.

"Having a baby is pretty tiring, isn't it?"

Sarah held the paper in one hand and crossed her other arm, looking like she was enjoying the show.

"Working so hard but not telling the baby's father? Oh, or are you afraid to tell him?"

Ava froze for a moment, then reached past her to pull a paper towel and wipe the water droplets from her face.

Sarah continued with her sarcastic tone.

"Tsk tsk tsk, you're not planning to surprise him, are you? I'd advise you to keep hiding it from him. This would only shock him - he doesn't want a child from you at all."

Just then, Ava's phone rang. She took it out and answered.

"Why are you taking so long in the bathroom?"

"Coming out now."

Ava put away her phone and looked coldly at Sarah.

"Our marriage is none of your business as an outsider. You have no right to comment."

Sarah's hackles rose. She reached out and grabbed Ava's arm.

"I'm advising you to quietly get rid of that baby and stop interfering in our relationship. He doesn't love you at all - he loves me. You saw it yourself, whenever I need him, he stays by my bedside day and night."

Ava forcefully shook off her hand and went back to the sink, squeezing out hand soap to wash where Sarah had touched her.

"Sarah, is suicide the only trick you have left? Aren't you afraid that one day you'll push him too far and he won't care about your life or death anymore?"

Sarah's face went pale for a moment, then she laughed a few seconds later.

"Are you trying to be funny? How could he not care about my life or death? When I call him, he has to come - he owes me that. If you don't believe me, let's both die and see who he saves first."

"If you want to die, go die by yourself. You're sick!"

Ava left her behind and walked out quickly, Sarah's words echoing in her mind, making her feel cold all over. She really wasn't sure who William would save if she and Sarah were both in danger at the same time.

She had no confidence in it.

Outside the bathroom, everyone was waiting in the sun.

Without realizing it, it was already noon, and the sun was blazing down on the earth.

Emily held one hand over her head as a shade. Seeing Ava and Sarah come out one after another, she complained.

"Geez, are you two constipated or something? Taking so long in the bathroom - I didn't even put on sunscreen today."

"Let's go."

William didn't wait for the two to come over and led the way out.

Emily cheerfully followed along.

"William, let's go eat at that fancy restaurant on Haisha Road, while Lewis is here."

William paused.

"You guys eat. I still have work to deal with."

His work was piling up like a mountain. He'd already wasted half a day. If it weren't for Lewis's annoying phone call, he would have finished reviewing several contracts by now.

Unable to convince her brother, Emily ran over to pester Lewis, intimately wrapping both hands around his arm. She thought that after spending the morning together, everyone was familiar enough. He was her fiancé after all - this small gesture was nothing. Physical contact could effectively bring two people closer quickly.

"Lewis, let's go eat at that fancy restaurant, okay?"

Lewis hesitated, then gently moved her hands away.

"Emily, I have something to do later. Next time, okay?"

Emily stopped in her tracks. When he came to the house this morning, that's not what he told Howard. He told Howard he'd spend the whole day with her and take her to visit his company. How could he change his mind after just a few hours?

In moments, they had reached the parking lot. Emily got straight into Lewis's car and continued to pester him, using all the tricks she'd learned from novels.

Lewis, worn down by her persistence, said,

"Can we discuss something?"

Emily perked up - there was hope.

"What is it?"
