Ch. 53 "Angry Sister"
Ch. 53 "Angry Sister"
Hayes P.O.V.
Damn, I love her. I am staring at her. Wait a minute! Did I say what I think I said?
"Yes, you did," I heard Hanes say, grinning ear to ear inside me.
I didn't even cringe when I said that and heard Hanes agreeing with me. That's what I would never say. I am really in love with her.
I knew I should say something to her and tell her how I felt, but I was too nervous and didn't want to say something that would ruin everything.
She probably thinks this is all a joke or a bet. But that's not what is going on here. I am an asshole, but I would never hurt her anyway. I promise. I will never make her cry ever again.
"Hayes? I heard her speak. I wasn't paying attention and looking off into space. I looked down, staring at my empty plate.
I was so lost in thought that I didn't realize my food was gone before I called back the waitress; she was already standing in front of the table.
Wow, I thought to myself, the waitress returned and took my dirty plate, and I saw her go over to Gracie and grab her empty plate.
Hmm, she must be starving. It's nice to see my mate has a hearty appetite.
I was watching her, but she looked nervous about something on her mind.
"Yeah, I could see that, hold on, brb, I'll ask her," Hanes said.
"Huh, what do you mean? Be right back!" I asked with confusion written on my face.
"You see," he smirked.
"Oh, okay?" a question looked on my face.
Five minutes later, he came back and didn't say anything, but I saw the expression on his wolf face inside my mind.
"So?" I spoke.
"So what?" he asked, confused.
"What happened, and what did she say?"
"Oh, you see," he said, chuckling and going into the shadows in the back of my mind.
"Yeah, whatever, you're no help!" I said, annoyed, and huffed in frustration.
Hmm, I thought, so I stopped listening to him and turned my attention to my beautiful pest.
"What's going on?" She asked me, but I could tell it was a demand, and she wanted answers.
"What do you mean, princess, I said, smiling and holding her hand," I told her. But then she moved her hand out of mine.
I felt hurt, but I hid the pain on my face.
"I mean, why are you being so nice to me now?" she asked in a shaking voice because I scared her.
I didn't want to scare her, but I could not help but feel like crap and guilty. I know I should be aware of how I have treated her over the years. Telling her off, running away from her, shouting at her in front of everyone, calling her names, and embarrassing her at school.
If I were someone and overheard what I had done to her, I would hit that guy, but how can I, even though it's myself, need a beating? "Yeah, I second that." I heard Hanes' echo voice inside my mind.
I know, trust me, I know. So I told him with guilt and shame written on my face.
I didn't know how to answer her, but I took a deep breath and was about to tell her, when someone came up to the table.
"Grace, there you are?" I heard my sister Jade say.
"Yeah, where have you been, girl?" I heard the other friend that Bryan is dating, the red-headed chick that's my sister and Gracie's friend and roommate, say, staring down at Gracie with an annoyed and worried face.
I looked her over and thought she was beautiful, but not my type. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with tall girls. But I always focused on the short, sweet, and cute girls like Gracie, my pest.
I don't like anyone else taller than me, but Bryan is over six feet five, so she is a tiny girl. When he is around, he towers over her by a foot.
"Hey girls," she said, smiling with red on her cheeks. I knew she was blushing because her friends caught her with the devil; that would be me.
"Hey, girl," Jade said, smiling at her, but turning her cold and angry eyes on me.
"Oh, no, she pissed, bro," I heard Hanes say, laughing.
"If you were in excess, I must chat with my brother."
Shut up! I told him. But before he could reply, it happened so fast,
my sister was telling the girls something about talking to me, and the next thing I knew, I was dragged into another booth two from down where Gracie and I were sitting.
"Hey! Easy, sis, I said before we got to the booth, but before I could say anything. I was slammed down onto the seat, and she was staring at me from across the table, but then I heard her voice inside my mind.
Oh, I see why she is doing that, so that no one could overhear us. So, it's safer to speak through mind links.
"No! "You listen to me," she said inside my mind.
"What? "You mean sis?" I asked her, confused. She gave me an eye roll, growled, and spoke.
"Hayes! "What in the hell are you doing here with Grace? "You don't even like her? "Are you using her for a joke?" my sister asked.
I growled under my breath, and she heard it, and she stuck out her chest, and she was to fight me if I did something to Gracie.
How could she think I would hurt her? I thought.
Gee, I wonder why I heard my sister inside my mind.
Ugh, get out of my mind, I told her with a bark.
Not until you tell me what in the hell do you think you are doing?" Didn't you forget how you were with her?" She told me and brought up bad memories.
I sighed and looked over at her, and she was talking to the redhead, but I didn't know what they were talking about. I had an idea.
"Well," I heard her bark.
Oh shit, I forgot she was still inside my mind. We still had the mind link open, but only we could hear each other, and she blocked out the others.
"Oh shit, right, now tell me!" she growled, and I knew she was holding back, or I would get my ass chewed out again.
"Don't worry about her; I will not hurt her," I told her calmly, because I was annoyed and didn't want to lose my temper.
"What do you mean-
"I am not going to hurt my mate, sis!" I shouted inside my mind; it was my warning to tell her to stop. I am getting angry, and it's not helping me to be away from Gracie for too long. I need to be close to her or touch her to keep myself calm. I didn't want to lose my temper because my noisy brat sister was in my business.
I sighed, "Look, sis, I love her; I will never hurt her again." I waited until I said. "I promise," I spoke with all heart and truth; I wasn't lying. I knew she could see it written on my face and hear it in my voice. I meant what I said about her.
She shut up and stared at Gracie with worry, but I saw relief behind her eyes, and the red-headed girl; I had to get her name later from Bryan. I could put a name behind the reddish hair staring over at us with concern and worry because she could tell by our body language that we were getting ready to shift and fight. I don't want to fight with my sister. I love her, but if she gets in my way with my mate! I'd rather not think about what will happen next.
"I knew it," she mumbled. But I could hear it.
"You knew the whole time, didn't you?" she asked, hurt, and I knew I had messed up. However, I needed to think and wanted to wait until I knew it was the right time.
"Yes," I told her with a sigh of relief, but also feeling guilty because I had lied to my sister; I knew I should have told her.
I knew it because she wasn't looking at me; she was looking over at Gracie, and I could tell my sister was hurt. So, I kept this away from her.
I didn't know if she would speak until I heard her say with tears in her eyes.
"Congratulations, brother; you better not fuck it up, and you better not hurt her." She said something and blocked out the link, then walked back over to Gracie and Erin; that's her name, but there was nothing I could tell by the time all three left me alone and walked towards the door. I had a feeling Gracie would be back, but she needed to talk to her friends. I hope my sister believes me. That's when I heard my sister say.
"Don't let me down, and I am happy she will be my sister.
"Also, when am I going to be an auntie?" she said, giggling, and I chuckled nervously and told her this.
"Thanks, sis, and maybe right now." So I said, and she looked back at me. I saw her face turn from angry to shocked and back to furious. She smiled and turned around, walking with them.
"Oh my God, really?" She said, shouting inside my mind.
I cringed and laughed, and that's when I knew she had forgiven a little, but I needed to work back her truth just like Gracie's.
"Crossed our fingers," I said, smiling.
"Whatever happens, I will be here for you, Hayes, and Grace." She said, choked up. I almost started to cry, but I managed to hold it back.
I sighed.
After that, she left the link, and I watched my sister, Gracie, and their friend standing outside the door. First, I saw Gracie speaking, and then I saw my sister and the red-headed girl hugging her.
I'll wait for her to return. I hope.
