Chapter 113
Chapter 113
The imps got an oops look then fled with the trollies. Lucky demons. Caspian and I froze, scared to make a move in case it startled the maras across from us. Lena was looking at Bodhi with wide blue eyes shimmering with unshed tears. Her lips trembled on her pale face. Bodhi was searching her face for a clue.
After what seemed to be an eternity, the imps popped back in. This time wearing matching leggings and hoodies with fake babies strapped to their fronts. They stood in the doorway with their hands fisted on their hips. I had to bit my lip to keep from laughing at how absurd they looked. Kerrigan shot me a look that caused a tingle of fear to shoot down my spine.
“Yes. You got her prego.” Kensington announced to the shell shocked incubus. Both the imps looked to our untouched dessert plates. “Is the fruit making you nauseous?”
Lena gave a tiny shake of her blonde head. I cleared my throat and stood up. “Perhaps we should give them a moment.”
Caspian stood with me. He took my hand and shooed the imps out of the room. There was about to be a very awkward conversation in that room, and I wanted no part of it. Of course I’d hear about it later from Carissa. She was going to demand a play by play on what goes down in there. She was so nosey. I veered off to the half bath in the hall. Once I opened the door, I saw the pink and blue box again resting on the counter. Caspian saw it over my shoulder. Against my back I could feel him shaking with silent laughter.
“Just take it, love.” He kissed the top of my head. “They won’t stop hounding you until you do.”
Gently, he pushed me into the bathroom and closed the door behind me. Pulling myself up straight, I walked to the box sitting on the white marble counter. I twirled it around as I looked at the metallic streaked purple wallpaper above the gray wainscotting. Purple and aqua mermaid pictures stair stepped on the wall. The middle one was slightly off plumb. I fixed it. Then checked the level of the mermaid shaped air freshener. Clearly, I was delaying the peeing on the stick part. Time to be an adult.
Bravely, I peed on the stick. As I was washing my hands, there was a polite knock on the door. I called for them to come in. As expected, Caspian opened the door. Seeing my distress, he wrapped his arms around me. I snuggled into his chest as mulberry wrapped around me. Here we were again. Waiting to find out if we had conceived a miracle and were in fact bonded. His lips left a soft kiss on the top of my hair.
He put his phone on the counter with a timer running. We stood in the small room, wrapped together. If it was negative again, I wasn’t sure what it would mean. But a positive would be confirmation that not only was I carrying the demon’s spawn, but we were bonded.
As much as I wanted to be with this man for the rest of my life, I wondered if I was cut out to be a mom. Maybe that was why I had gone this long without being one. I was an excellent fun aunt. Lena and Bodhi’s demon spawn would benefit from my time with Carissa’s kids. I also had the fear of what would happen if Caspian became human. How much would our relationship change?
“What are you thinking, Gazelle?” His husky voice washed over me. “I can feel your inner turmoil.”
I smiled into his chest. “How much our lives would change if I’m pregnant and you become human.”
“Hmmm.” He rubbed his beard on the top of my head. “I’d imagine it would take me longer to get you naked.”
I chuckled as I smacked his chest. “Be serious!”
“I am.” He snickered into my hair. The timer dinged. Bracing ourselves, we looked at the plastic stick on the counter. It was a bomb. Possibly about to explode our lives in irreversible ways. Caspian reached out with one of his talented fingers to flip it over so we could see the display. Still blank. Ugh. Why do these things say results in a minute if they weren’t that fast?
“We should sue for false advertising.” I muttered. He chuckled behind me. As we stared at the bomb on the counter, we laced our fingers over my stomach where our baby could be. “How’s Lena and Bodhi?”
I felt him throw his head back in laugh. It sounded so sexy, I looked up to see him. The pure merriment on his face made me smile. He was so amused his mouth was hanging open as he laughed. If I wanted, I could have counted his perfect teeth. No idea why, but it gave me the tingle. His laughter cut off as he looked down at me. I shrugged and told him he’s hot. Not wanting to be bent over the counter, I asked him again about the maras in my formal dining room.
‘Bodhi has kinda lost it.” A giggle escaped him. A giggle! This six foot two broad shouldered demon giggled. He cleared his throat. I could tell he was trying to keep his composure. Snickering now, he picked up his phone. A couple of clicks later, a video came up on the screen.
On the screen Bodhi was staring at Lena, still sitting at the table. His mouth kept opening and closing. Finally, he managed to stutter out how. Again, it was explained about the meteor shower. Then Kerrigan burst in with an anatomy book in hand. They placed it in front of the mars. Narrating as they pointed at something on the pages. It sounded like they were explain boys vs girl parts.
Then they flipped to another page to give the birds and bees speech. Only it was VERY graphic and slangy. I had tears rolling down my face at the terms used. The phrase nut juice had Caspian and I laughing so hard no sound was coming out. If I was in fact pregnant, I was so having Kerrigan do the sex talk with my little incubus.
We were still giggling about Bodhi being educated on reproduction when the bathroom door was thrust open. Standing in the hall there were two imps. Still in their hoodies and leggings outfit. Fake babies strapped to their fronts. Again, their hands were fisted on their hips. Their hair snakes were focused on me. Except Glen. He was sneering at my mermaid pictures.
“Well, are you ready to admit that’s a demon baby made with your taco?” Kerrigan challenged me.
