Chapter 29 Bet

Chapter 29 Bet
Kade

I was not expecting to see her when I finished practice, but she was there. Sitting on the bench I’d left her and just scrolling through her phone.

“Not your type, huh?” Landon clasped my shoulder from behind before falling in step beside me. He’d removed his helmet and tucked it under his arms and had a wide annoying smile on his face.

I shoved him off and somehow, that got him all excited.

“Landon!”

“I’m here for the show,” he winked at me before turning off in the opposite direction to meet whoever had called him. It was a feminine voice, so I guess it would be one of those girls who warmed his bed.

I approached Tatum who was yet to see me. I’d felt bad.

For flipping her off earlier when she’d shared her story. I know she was trying to make me feel better and that was what got me all fucked up. It was scary that she could see I wasn’t okay.

Anyone could see it but I never expected her to mention it or try to make me feel better, not when I’d been an asshole to her all this while and the best I could do was shut her down.

“I didn’t think you’d wait,” I muttered and cleared my throat. She looked up from her phone immediately, her expression tight. She stood up, creating distance between us and tucked her hair behind her ear.

I raised a brow.

She shrugged. “I just wanted to see it to the end,” she said and I gave her a dry look.

That was a pathetic excuse and she knew it.

She returned it and then pressed her lips together. My eyes dropped to them and the image from last night flashed in my head.

Just when I thought I’d forget about last night. That I almost touched myself to images of her in my head, I was wrong.

So fucking wrong.

Seeing her in person fueled the urge and it was worse knowing we were both staying under the same roof.

I was about to push for more answers before Brayden appeared. Probably make her admit she waited behind for me, that maybe…she was concerned.

That’d be a new thing to me.

I’d been with quite a number of women, but I knew none of them cared about me. Hell, they didn’t even care to know about me.

They just wanted the money and a good fuck and yeah, boast to their friends that they were dating the “Kade Sinclair”.

It was pathetic.

“Hey,” he drawled, his gaze jumping from me to Tatum and then back to me. He smirked.

“Jesus, the tension is turning me on.” he said and Tatum looked away but not before I caught her cheeks heating slightly.

I punched Brayden in the shoulder. Not hard enough to cause pain, but not soft enough to cause comfort.

He winced.

“Man, that shit hurts.” He bit out.

“I’m gonna leave now,” Tatum interrupted and we both turned to her. She had her hands in front of her.

“You can ride with us. I mean, we’re going in the same direction.” Brayden chirped in and I cocked my head to the side.

“Us?” I stared at him. He grinned at me in response.

“Today’s the best day to check in on little man. Especially, after that little stunt he pulled that almost cost his head.” he laughed and I just shook my head. My feet hurts from moving around that rink for more than two hours.

Actually, every part of my body hurts. I just needed a cold shower and a good sleep and not a Brayden episode.

I stared at Tatum.

“Yeah. You should join,” I mumbled, gave her one last glance before I walked ahead of both of them. But somehow, her image had imprinted itself in my mind.

She really was a petite girl. I wouldn’t say short, because she was a little on the taller side but she had a small frame that stayed hidden under big shirts and loose pants. Until, I’d seen her in a dress.

I’d like to think that was the bane of the fucking fantasy I’m having. Because ever since that goddamn night, she’d refused to leave my head.

Zhe was always around. Everywhere.

I got into the car, taking off my gear. It feels so fucking heavy whenever I’m outside the rink.

I brushed my hair with my fingers while waiting for she and Brayden to get in who by the way was flirting with her. It was annoying..

His personality as a whole even.

They both sat at the back and I frowned, irritated at this point.

“I”m not your driver.” I said flatly, glancing out the window and waiting for any of them to move to the front.

“Man, just drive.” Brayden grunted and I glared at him through the headmirror. He met my glare with a grin, like he’d known I’d do just that.

“Tatum, move forward.” I muttered and she mumbled something I didn’t catch.

I frowned.

Before I could say anything again, Brayden huffed and stepped out slamming the door closed and getting in the passenger seat.

I didn’t wait for him to fix his seatbelt before moving the car. The ride was silent save for Brayden’s occasional humming.

We got to the house in the next ten minutes and Tatum was the first person to jump out of the car and disappear into the house.

Brayden turned to me and I raised a brow at him as we walked towards the door.

“Let’s make a bet,” he mumbled. My brows pulled together.

“Not interested.”

“Hear me out man,” he hurried after me, that annoying grin still on his face.

“What’s it about?” My tone was dry. I just wanted to rest, not to be bombarded by questions.

“A bet on Tate.” He lowered his voice. “Sounds like fun, right?”

I paused and stared at him, my eyes meeting his.

What?
