Chapter 61 — Checking the Site
Tatum's POV:
The next Monday Luna and I head straight for the office where my father gives her the materials and budgets she needs while she is overseas. Once Luna and I have been briefed about our upcoming schedules we head back home and pack. On the flight over we go over the agenda and discuss our course of action as well as a few ideas for our wedding. Once we land we head straight for the hotel and when we've settled in we head out into Manhattan to find something to eat. On our way down the street we pass by a nightclub called The Bomb. Loud techno music blasts from the building and Luna looks at the doors curiously.
"You wanna go in?" I ask leaning down to whisper in Luna's ear.
"But you don't really like clubs." Luna replies.
"Correction. I don't like going to clubs with my sister and her annoying friends." I said with a chuckle.
"Come on." I say as I grab Luna's hand and go through the doors.
Luna's POV:
The club is illuminated with lights of multiple colors. Blacklights hang here and there causing mine and Tatum's clothes to glow. There is a group on the stage singing a familiar song that I had heard many times before called Around the World. I began to dance in time with the music as I grabbed Tatum and found a spot on the dance floor. The band on stage sang several upbeat songs before departing allowing the next band to play. After a few more songs Tatum and I made our way to the bar.
"They were pretty good weren't they?" I asked Tatum.
"Yeah they had everyone up and dancing." Tatum replied as we reached the bar.
"Maybe we should go get something to eat now. I'm starting to feel a little hungry." I say as I look up at Tatum.
"Whatever you want princess." Tatum says as he grabs my hand and leads me back out into the street.
We walked a few blocks and stopped at a high-end restaurant. We are escorted to a table and our orders are quickly taken. Tatum and I begin to discuss the plans for tomorrow and once we have finished eating we head back to the hotel to rest up for the upcoming week.
The next afternoon Tatum and I head to the construction site to get started on the reports that we would have to present once we were back home. We talk with the site manager as he escorts us around the site showing us where everything is going to be placed.
"The crew is making good progress. At this rate you and your crew will be finished ahead of schedule." I say as I look around the structure.
"Well ma'am we pride ourselves on our work and the ability to get the job done right as quickly as possible." The site manager replies.
"We may have to hire you for our next projects as well." Tatum says with a genuine smile.
"We would be happy to assist any way we can." The site manager says as he shakes Tatum's hand.
"What about the projected budgets? Is everything okay in that area?" I ask.
"Oh yes! We are following the curve nicely and if I can secure this next supply shipment we should come in under the estimated budget." The site manager replied.
"Wow! Mr. Alarick will be pleased to hear the good news." I reply with a smile.
"Well I think it's safe to say we are done here. We will let you get back to work and if we have any more questions we will call you." Tatum says as he shakes the man's hand once more.
We slowly walk back around the site taking various notes and observing the work the crew is putting into the structure.
"So have you thought about lunch?" Tatum asks me as we make our way to the car.
"Well I saw a cheesecake shop on the way here." I reply as I get into the car.
"So you want something sweet." Tatum says as he leans into the car door inches from my face.
I feel my cheeks burn red as my eyes travel down his masculine face to his slightly parted lips. Tatum smiles and stands back up, closing the door and making his way to the driver's side. Once Tatum gets into the car we begin to head towards the small shop.
Tatum's POV:
Luna and I make our way inside the small shop and she finds us a table for two by the window as I head towards the counter. There's a man standing at the counter looking through the glass at various styles of cakes with a regretful look on his face. He lets out a sign and runs his hands through his hair as he mumbles under his breath.
"Difficult decision?" I ask with a smirk.
"Yeah you could say that." The man replies as he straightens his posture.
He looks over his shoulder at Luna who smiles politely in our direction then he turns back to the counter again with a look of defeat in his eyes.
"If I was you I would get the simple cheesecake with strawberries." I say as I put my hands in my pockets.
"Is that what you do?" The man asks as he looks at me.
"Things are a bit different for us. We're more in tune than most couples." I reply and the man gives me a knowing nod.
"Yeah I made a mistake and said something I shouldn't have. Names James by the way." James replied.
"Yeah us men have a way of messing up our words at times...or not telling them how we feel." I reply with a smile.
James's eyes waver at me slightly.
"You haven't told her you care about her have you?" I ask.
"We just met actually and haven't known each other long." James says with a nervous grin.
"You do like her though or you wouldn't be here." I replied.
"I guess you're right." James says with a chuckle as the shopkeeper comes to the counter.
James makes his choice and the shopkeeper reaches into the cabinet and places his selections into the small to go box. James nods at me and leaves the shop. I order Luna and myself a cheesecake with blueberry toppings and two teas. Luna and I eat our cakes and afterwards we head towards the hotel. Luna and I are lazing about as dusk begins to set over the city. I suddenly get an idea.
"We should go for a walk." I say as I stand and take Luna in my arms.
"Ok where should we go?" Luna asks as she looks lovingly up at me.
"Well there's a park just a block away." I replied.
"Ok." Luna says as she places her hand on my chest.
We get ready and begin to head in the direction of the park.
