Chapter 150 A Struggle of Fire-- Zeron POV
Zeron POV

“There’s more! Evacuate the pack house!” I ordered.
“Alpha, are you sure?” the Alpha general questioned.
The wolves were countless. No matter how many I took out, a dozen more came back.
“We have to protect the pack!”
“That’ll cut our army in half. We won’t have enough wolves to battle this threat!”
I knew that, but we had innocent pack members hiding in the pack house that needed to be protected
“We have no choice.” This is my pack, and I’ll die protecting it.
I looked to the sky. The moon covered the sun. Destiny better be kind to us today.
“I said clear the pack,” I ordered. “Go with the members. I’ll protect the pack.”
I lowkey regretted sending Rowan off to protect my scheming ex-wife. The Alpha General had no choice but to obey. He nodded and fled back to the pack house while I kept those seeking entry at bay.
I’d dealt with situations just like this. Three years ago, I was locked in battle for five days straight, and that didn’t break me. However, I wasn’t fighting with my back on fire. The burning sensation started when the moon appeared in the sky and drew towards the sun.
“Get out of my pack!” I roared as I kicked a wolf several feet from the pack house entrance.
The searing pain in my back spread out and pressed on my muscles.
I winced, but I couldn’t fall. I owed Esme an ‘I love you’. I promised her we’d be together again.
“Stop fighting this, Alpha Zeron,” Dana said.
The sea of beta wolves parted as the Luna, dressed in a deep blue dress, walked through them. Her hands were engulfed by bright baby blue light. My muscles tightened when she got closer.
No! The tonic in my system reacted to her magic.
She knew it too. She grinned. “I know you’re strong, but even you must acknowledge when you’ve been defeated.”
I growled and flashed my wolf at her. “The only time I’ll acknowledge defeat is when I’m dead!”
She laughed and raised her hands. “On your knees!”
I dropped to the ground involuntarily. “Fuck!”
“Finally, the tonic actually worked,” she said, her eyes bulging with greed. “My plans have finally been fulfilled.”
“I wouldn’t be so sure,” I muttered.
I looked up at the dark sky. The clouds came out of nowhere and turned day into night. The sun beamed behind the moon. The eclipse won’t last long, which means Dana’s window of opportunity won’t last long.
“Don’t worry about the eclipse. Once the sun comes out from behind the moon, there will be a new sun and a new ruler! The shifter world will tremble at my feet. Everyone will know that I’m not a mere breeder. I didn’t fail when I had a daughter.”
“You didn’t fail when you had a daughter!” I roared. “You failed her when you turned her into a monster!”
“Shut up!” She dragged her fingers through thin air and slammed them against her dress.
I fell forward on my face and scratched my cheek. “Damn it,” I mumbled.
“Don’t piss me off, Zeron! You’re my puppet now.”
Sweat formed on my forehead as I struggled against the tonic. Maybe I could sweat it out. I had to do something because I had no plans to be my mother-in-law’s bitch!
“Luna Dana!” A man yelled. “We’ve searched the entire pack house. Luna Rina isn’t here.”
“What?” Dana roared. “You didn’t search correctly. Where is she?”
I chuckled. My wolf battled against the tonic the same way he battled against the betas driving at our pack house. Eventually, something budged.
I grinned. Now we’re talking.
“Zeron, what have you done with my daughter?” Dana demanded.
“I can’t respond to you with my face on the floor,” I mumbled.
She used her magical controlling powers and raised me off the ground violently. She closed the distance between us and gripped my face with her claws.
“I won’t ask you again. Where is Rina?” She spat.
“You’re wasting your time asking about your daughter. I won’t tell you. The eclipse is your only chance. Unless you’re willing to waste another thousand years for the next one.”
She screeched like a banshee.
“You and everyone else will bow to me! Because I killed Dillon De Monte! Yes, when you expelled me from your pack, I went on a side mission. It couldn’t wait. His essence was weak compared to his daughter, but his pack is not mine!”
I didn’t expect that.
Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed movement in the trees. Thunder clapped, and the breeze picked up. Red, ferocious eyes of a magnificent Lycan lingered between the trees. A smile spread across my face, and it enraged Dana.
She raised her palm and struck me.
“Fuck, that hurt,” I laughed.
“I’m done with you! You won’t have a mind to regret this when it’s over.”
She raised her hands high above her head. My feet shot off the ground, and my arms stretched out wide without my permission. I growled as I struggled against her hold. My wolf continued battling through the tonic. I felt it weaken. Judging by Dana’s worried expression, she felt it too.
“You will obey me. Loosen your mind and bend to the will of my power!” She ordered.
My mind vanished and turned blank for a second and came back.
Fuck, she’s actually serious.
The Lycan in the forest burst free from his hiding place and kicked up Dana’s beta army. The wolves looked like toys being flung into the forest. Dana dropped me and gasped.
“No,” she said.
The Lycan King didn’t come alone. Dozens of lycans charged into battle and overwhelmed the beta wolves. The Queen Luna shifted out of her wolf and attacked Dana, tackling her to the ground.
“You!” Dana struggled.
“We meet again. I heard you’ve been very naughty, Dana.”
Kinslee raised a sharp, long dagger with a gold-encrusted handle. Without hesitation, the Luna drove the knife into Dana’s side. My eyes widened at how quickly that happened.
However, blood didn’t pool out of Dana’s side.
Kinslee smiled. “Don’t worry, I didn’t come here to kill you. I just want what belongs to my family. Our essence.”
“Zeron!” My mate called.
She ran towards me. Her skin was red hot, and sweat drenched her hair and face. I forced myself to stand. My wolf had weakened the tonic and started healing the wound Alexi gave me.
Esme stumbled and fell into my arms.
“Babe, you’re burning up,” I said, clutching her for dear life.
“The plan didn’t work. I still have my powers, and it feels like I’m being cooked inside.”
I scooped her off the ground and held her to my chest.
She placed her hand on my chest. “You’re okay, right?” She asked weakly.
“I love you, Esme. I love you so much.”
She smiled softly. “You could have told me before you ran off, you know.”
“You gave me strength to fight. I had to get back to you because I owed you.”
She shut her eyes and moaned.
“No! Don’t shut your eyes.”
She’s suffering, but I don’t feel her pain. Perhaps the rule of the destined mate didn’t allow us to suffer at the same time, so one had the opportunity to save the other. If she dies, it’s because I allowed it. Knowing that would be enough to kill me.
“Wait, Zeron, you can’t take her!” Kinslee shouted.
I growled and held her protectively. “I can’t lose her!”
“You will if you keep her from us. Kinslee can remove her powers. That’s the only way she will regain her strength,” Reya shouted.
Dana lay on the cold ground, panting and palming the ground while Kinslee carried an orb of bright blue light in front of her.
Esme hissed and cried out. “Zeron! It hurts!”
My wolf howled out in pain. “I’m here. I won’t leave you.”
“Reya, you have to hold her,” Kinslee ordered.
Reya stared at her twin sceptically, but didn’t argue. Reya got on her knees and held her arms open for Esme. I placed my mate in her biological mother’s arms.
“Hurry, Kinslee. Neither of us will last long,” Reya pleaded.
Kinslee nodded and unleashed the baby blue magic on Esme, but the magic bounced and hit Reya too.
“Was it supposed to do that?” I asked.
Kinslee nodded. “I know what I’m doing.”
Esme and Reya screamed as they clutched one another. My first instinct was to separate them and take my mate away. That was until their powers of destruction floated up from them.
Kinslee pushed the blue magic towards the red destructive flame. The blue power ate up the red one. Reya pulled Esme to her chest as the battle just above their heads gave out and exploded.
I shielded my eyes. Sparkles of red and blue magic went everywhere.
“Is it over?” I asked Kinslee.
She nodded and sighed. “Forever this time.”
“Kinslee!” Reya shouted. “Did I tell you to take away my powers too?”
“Oh, come on! Just say thank you. You were going to die.”
While Kinslee and Reya argued, I noticed Dana slowly slide the dagger from her side and get up from the ground. Thunder roared in the distance. The sun finally moved from behind the moon.
It was over.
I followed Dana. She ran towards the main road. The lycans had destroyed her getaway car.
“No!” She moaned.
“You’re under arrest, Dana. For murder and treason.”
She turned around and dropped to her knees. “This can’t be.”
“You messed with the wrong Alpha. I’ll see that you’re imprisoned in the pack you hate the most. The De Monte pack.”
Her eyes widened painfully. “Damn you, Alpha Zeron. Damn you!”

Kyan’s Lycans helped round up Dana’s wolf army. While they did that, I spotted my mate looking around, worried and trembling slightly.
“Princess,” I called.
She turned and noticed me. She ran and jumped into my arms. “My mother saved us.”
I laughed. “Your other mother didn’t seem too happy.”
“Reya just doesn’t like it when Kinslee wins.”
She pressed her lips against mine. “They’re still arguing. It’s gone back to when they were kids living in the De Monte castle.”
“While they do that, why don’t we sneak away to our bedroom?”
She brushed her nose against mine. “I could use a shower.”
“Zeron,” a familiar voice called.
I put my mate down and followed the voice.
It was Rina.
Esme curled up beside me, and I draped an arm around her protectively.
“I think we need to talk,” she said.
