Chapter 142 Alpha Zeron-- Zeron POV

Chapter 142 Alpha Zeron-- Zeron POV
Zeron POV

Our first date had to be in hiding because I was still mated to another she-wolf. Everyone else could say it was wrong, but Rina and I both knew there was nothing in our marriage to begin with.
I found love I didn’t know I needed. I found a mate I couldn’t live without.
Rina was a wife who wanted my life and my pack. I’d rather she kill me than turn me into her puppet. I knew the moon goddess removed what was left of Rina’s tonic, but a part of me feared something could happen and I’d have an episode and go into another shock coma.
I thought about that before I went to bed last night. It was the first night I spent in my pack for a while. As I lay in my bed, I was plagued with fear from every corner.
Rina’s pack had power, and apparently so did she. I had to be careful. More importantly, my mate had to be careful. Especially with the divorce rituals coming up soon. Very soon.
“Your pack is beautiful,” Esme commented.
We walked across a small bridge, leaving the pack house behind us.
“It used to be even more beautiful. With a Luna like you, I can’t imagine how great the West End pack will be.”
Heat spread across her face.
“I feel bad sometimes,” she confessed.
“Don’t. Just don’t. Rina’s pack has been summoned. I spoke to her after she left the clinic. She knows what’s going to happen. My pack doesn’t imprison for treason. It’s death. I don’t want to do that.”
Esme stiffened. “What’s going to happen?”
“On the first day, Rina’s pack have the chance to accept or deny my proposal. Then they present a demand to accept the divorce. I didn’t make these rules, but Rina has no right to demand anything.”
“Ugh, Zeron! What if she asks for a baby?!”
“I can’t give her that! That’s insane.” She can’t force me to do that.
“I think I’ve been overthinking this a lot. What if your pack doesn’t like me?”
“Everyone’s talking about the gorgeous Princess who’s visiting the pack. They’re thrilled.”
Esme laughed. Damn, that sound turned me on and brightened my mood altogether.
She leaned against my arm, and we fell into silence. I should have waited before marrying Rina. True love was waiting for me out there. I draped an arm over her shoulder as we approached a pond.
“Do you think you can see yourself here? You have a wonderful family back home,” I asked.
It hurt me to ask, but I wanted her to be sure she wanted to be with me after all the danger was gone. I wanted to do things the right way this time. Which meant I had to learn to get along with her father, Kyan.
“Well, there’s a lot to consider. I have to go back and finish school.”
“Right, my mate’s a smart-ass.”
She paused and held her hip. “Smart-ass?”
“You’re intelligent, and you have the nicest ass I’ve ever seen.”
She laughed. “Interesting interpretation. I was almost done when I was kidnapped.”
I nodded. “We have great training facilities too. I’ll help make the transition smoother. If you want to work in our hospitals, we’d love to have you.”
She bit her bottom lip. “Thank you, Zeron.”
I leaned in and kissed her. “Of course. No more spending time in the kitchens.”
“Very funny.” She swatted me.
We stayed there watching little fish hop out of the water. Eventually, Esme tired, and I walked her back to her room. I stayed with her until she was fast asleep before I slipped out of her room.
I couldn’t fall asleep in my own room. Going back and spending the night with my mate was so tempting I nearly gave in when Commander Alexi shouted across the hall.
“You sick bastard!”
I flew across the hall, grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and slammed him against the wall. The massive commander dangled off the wall and gripped my wrists, but I wouldn’t release him.
He could have woken Esme!
“You can’t fire me! We’re not sure you’re even lucid.”
I laughed bitterly. “That’s what you’ve been feeding my council, isn’t it? But Ian didn’t believe you, so you decided to attack him.”
“You’re crazy, Zeron. You should have let your Luna take control of the pack.”
“You can have her once the divorce is over. Fuck, you can have her now.”
“I have,” Alexi spat.
I dragged him across the wall and rammed my fist into his face. I dragged him to the top of the staircase. I could let him fall, and he’d survive.
“What are you doing?” Alexi yelled. “You’re insane. Let me go.”
“It’s just a few stairs, Alexi. You’ll be fine.”
“That doesn’t mean I want to roll down the fucking stairs. Let me go!”
I released him. He stumbled to his feet and adjusted his clothes.
“I found your brothels too. You’ll find by tomorrow morning that all of them have been set on fire and all your slaves have been returned to their packs. It’s over.”
“No, it’s not!” Alexi swung, and I ducked.
Before Alexi could reposition himself, I punched him, and he fell backwards and rolled down the stairs.
“He brought that upon himself,” I mumbled.
“Alexi!” A member of my council said.
He looked like he’d been hurried out of bed. “What’s going on here?”
“You’re asking me? When the Alpha attacked me. He’s lost his mind again. He’s not lucid enough to lead us!”
Three more council members appeared in their morning robes. My right-hand beta, Rowan, appeared behind them.
“Alpha Zeron, now that you’ve fired Alexi, who’s going to be the pack commander? You’ve put our pack at a disadvantage.”
“Everything you’re doing is putting our pack at a disadvantage. First you want to divorce the Luna, and now you’ve left us without a commander,” Harris, the cocky councilman, said.
Damn, can’t wait for the opportunity to get rid of him.
“Would you rather keep a Luna that wants to poison me? I’m pretty sure a pack without an Alpha is even more vulnerable,” I said through gritted teeth.
None of them responded.
“Alexi, leave the pack house. The Alpha has spoken,” councilman Ian said.
“You’re all going to pay. This pack will be the first to fall,” Alexi spat.
“Rowan, get him out of here,” I ordered.
Rowan nodded and grabbed Alexi’s arms and locked them behind his back. Alexi was older and bigger, but Rowan managed to get the guy moving on his own.
“I don’t want him in my pack anymore,” I declared.
Alexi growled and broke free from Rowan. Alexi pounced in the blink of an eye. His claws came out and ripped through my clothes and skin.
Rowan tackled him to the ground. “You’re going to regret that, Alexi.”
Blood oozed from my chest and drenched my clothes.
“Guards!” Ian shouted. “The Alpha has been attacked.”
I can’t see Esmeray while I’m covered in blood like this.
