Chapter 48

Klaus:

I glared at the man, my brother, who stood beside the dragon. His eyes amused as he watched the people flee, fear could be seen in their eyes, expressions, and even their body language. Never had I imagined seeing my brother being this evil. Growing up, the man had the heart of an angel. I will admit that we have been harmed, the humans have not left us alone for years. But that didn’t mean that we had darkened, the man’s heart completely died and he had lost all senses of humanity.

Having sent my mate to the human world. I feared what was to come, and I knew that there was no way for me to handle it if anything happened to her, nor would I be able to focus knowing that she could be in danger at any given moment. At least in the palace, having Lorenzo and Caspian by her side, I would know that she would be somewhat safer than she would ever be here in the kingdom, even if she was with the bastard she called a father.

“I see that your people still remember me,” Verone said looking me in the eye from his position, knowing that I would hear him. He was taunting me, he knew that he was, and he was enjoying every second of it. Knowing that I wouldn’t be able to make a move just yet, the people were too shaken up to be able to fight with me. If I fought, then I’d have to fight him on my own, it might not end too well on my part. But there was no other option, I would either succeed or die saving my kingdom.

I didn’t answer, looking at the dragon who stood beside me. Aiden was too young to be fighting such a beast, there was no way I’d put him through this, especially knowing what that thing did to his whole family. All the dragons feared him, his mother died to protect her unhatched egg, the eggs which were to carry his siblings were all shattered killing the little ones. He was lucky to have survived after everything.

“Aiden, you will leave…”

“No, I’m the…”

“Aiden, you’re still far too young to be fighting such a battle,” I said patting the little beast’s muzzle. His eyes met mine and he shook his head growing half his size and I smiled at him “you’ve got a little tougher job ahead of you”

“Klaus…”

“If anything happens to me, don’t allow Kiara to come here. She would go mad when she finds out, she would want to come. But I want you to keep her safe in the human world, make sure she and our baby are safe. Remind her of my love to her, remind her that it would be okay, that she would be okay” I whispered. The dragon kept his eyes on mine before he shook his head making me smile “stay safe little one”

With that said, I vampire sped out of the palace. I knew Aiden well enough to know that the little dragon had better prediction than any human, vampire, wolf, or which would have combined. It was a trait that dragons were blessed with. Therefore, I was surprised when I saw a black shadow over me, bigger than I’ve ever seen before Aiden landed by my side. I looked behind me to find the palace’s wall shattered as Aiden had enlarged inside it before walking out.

“Leaving a king isn’t what something that my race does,” Aiden said. I shook my head at the hatchling but nodded before a loud piercing scream filled the air, coming from Aiden himself as he blew fire toward the sky making my eyes wide. It was seconds later that shadows filled the sky, all of the flying dragons which landed behind him. My own eyes widened at the sight, having not expected such a thing from the dragon as two dragons who looked like him approached him, I could tell that they were older than he was.

“How?” I heard Verone whisper and I frowned in confusion when my eyes widened at the sight of one of the dragons rubbing her muzzle against Aiden’s.

“It would take more than just you to defeat a royal blood, King Verone,” one of the black dragons said looking directly at Verone who shied back “I am King Tyson, king of dragons. Those who believe me dead shall face the consequence of their actions”

I stayed quiet as I watched the scene before me. Seeing the dragons assemble around the kingdom’s grounds, in front of the palace, around the fields, the roof, what’s left of it, of the palace. Aiden stood by my side as he kept his eyes on my brother who was trying to escape leaving the dragon at the mercy of all the other dragons who were coming to help. I raised an eyebrow at my brother King Tyson nodded at me to follow him. Just as I vampire sped toward my brother, I saw the king fly at the same speed toward the red dragon. The dragon’s eyes were filled with fear for a second. But I wasn’t sticking around for the show, I had other matters to deal with.

Using magic, Verone tried blocking my path. However, all his tries went in vain as I pinned him against one of the trees. His eyes were wide in fear for a second before he tried using a spell on me. Knowing that fire burned vampires, it was his first try making me drop him instantly as I rushed away from him. The wound took seconds, but it healed having me raise an eyebrow at his attempt.

“You have lost, Verone. Give up” I told him and he let out a mocking laugh.

“Have I? But Niklaus, I have reached my initial goal” Verone said making me frown in confusion “it is unfortunate that I lost my throne. However, that doesn’t mean that you won either”

I vampire sped toward him, pinning him to a rock. His eyes lit up with amusement as he looked me in the eye.

“Trust me Niklaus, you would want to hear of this” Verone said casually. His eyes studied my expression as he smiled “you see, it includes your mate”

His words only caused me to tighten my grip around his neck making his eyes widen as he fought to breathe. My own eyes turned golden as my wolf made himself known, my canines and fangs were both out as I glared at my brother who shook in my grasp.

“Don’t worry, she’s yet to be harmed. However, should anything happen to me, your beloved queen dies at the hands of my man” Verone said casually and I frowned in confusion as I waited for him to continue “it was truly a shame that I had to kill his brother. But the man had weakened, can you imagine, he wanted to protect the queen from ME. I raised him, put him in your care, ensured he and his brother got a job. They got one in the palace itself, protecting the future queen! Yet, he wanted to side with you against ME”

“So, you see. You sent your wife with my man, he’s simply waiting for my order. Should I not give one in an hour, your queen dies. Easy as that” Verone said with a bright smile, knowing that he has put me on edge. I glared at him as I tried thinking of who he was talking about. The only two who went with Kiara were Caspian and Lorenzo…

No…

“Ha, I see you decided to use your brain to understand what I meant. However, not that I expected otherwise, you were always known for being rational, and I’m sure that you’ll make the best choice…” I disconnected his head from his body before he even finished the sentence. Dropping the man’s head on the ground, I knew that the fight between the two dragons was still going. The roars and fires being shot could be seen, heard, and even smelled from a distance. I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t shaken by the sight and had this been a different circumstance, I would have stayed to watch. But if what Verone said was true, then Kiara was in danger.

I reached Aiden just as King Tyson defeated the red dragon. Biting his neck as a lion would bite its prey, the dragon was dead in minutes. Meaning that Verone’s life would be ending as well.

My eyes went wide at the sight, a clench in my chest told me that my twin brother was now dead. It saddened me that he had to die that way, that everything was going so well for a while only for him to sentence his own life to death by a stupid mistake like that one. But I couldn’t do anything about it, he had made his choice years ago when he chose the dark ways, I wasn’t responsible for his choices and I couldn’t stop him from making them, no matter how hard I tried. The man didn’t want to stop. It was obvious that he chose his path himself.

Aiden’s eyes lit up when he saw me only for his expression to darken when he noticed my worried state. He didn’t even know why I was worried yet, the dragon would go mad when he found out “Kiara, she’s in danger Aiden. If what Verone was saying was true, I think Lorenzo is going to hurt her…”

“What?” Aiden asked wide-eyed and I nodded. The idea of having put my wife in the vampire’s care for years, trusting him with her life when she was in the human world. Knowing that her father hated her, but trusting that the guards would protect her, the thought of Giovani wanting to save her and dying for it. Everything made sense now, how Verone knew where I was, my every move. It was Lorenzo who was telling him what our motives were. The thought hurt me more than I could think of describing, but now wasn’t the time to dwell on it. My mate’s life was on the line.

“Verone, he mentioned something about having his man with Kiara. The man had been by our side all along, if as he described the man was Lorenzo, and I sure as hell don’t want to risk the fact of that being true…”

“How are we going to go back to the human realm? You gave the necklace to Kiara, and Rosetta is dead. How are we…?”

“You are a dragon, young Aiden” King Tyson said looking at Aiden whose eyes widened.

“I am not allowed to go to the human realm, it is in our rules…”

“I believe that for a woman who has taken you under her custody, every rule can be broken,” King Tyson said nodding at me, I nodded back. Silently thanking the dragon who just gave me hope, even the slightest bit of it was enough. Now we had the issue of finding her, I knew that I had sent her to the palace, her old home, but I also knew now that things were a lot more messed up than I thought they’d be. Which meant that she might not even be in that place, that was a risk itself. One which I didn’t want to take.

“How would we find her? The human kingdom is a lot bigger than this one…”

“You’ll need to rely on your senses, King Niklaus. She is your mate, you would know when she is close” King Tyson said stopping me, I got on his son, riding the dragon’s back as if I’d ride a horse before he suddenly took off. The feeling of the wind against my skin and the flight against gravity at such a speed had me close my eyes for a second. My wolf going restless making it harder for me to control him.

Please, be safe…
