Chapter 45

Kiara:

“Baby girl, you need to sit down” Niklaus whispered to me and I shook my head at him pacing around the people who were in need, everything was a mess. The people who have managed to escape the terrifying events that happened were either coming to their senses after the shock they’ve been through or healing using vampire blood. The people were petrified and despite not wanting to show it, I was too, and I was well aware that my husband could feel it too.

Everyone around us has lost their homes, most of them have lost their families and loved ones. I couldn’t handle the situation that we were put in, what I saw, the people’s screams and cries filled my ears and the vision of the fire haunted my mind the second I closed my eyes. Niklaus has been watching me for the past hour trying to stop me, but all his tries went in vain. I needed to keep myself distracted before everything that happened hit me. As I knew that this was no time or place to break down in front of the people, our people who needed strength to keep going, to be able to handle and process what had happened to them less than a few hours ago.

Flashback:

“But my queen, the fun is just getting started” the man who was driving turned around facing me. His eyes met mine and he smirked shifting back to his true form.

“Verone,” I said angrily, Lorenzo’s hands held mine and he glared at the man who was smiling evilly at us. Giovani who was sitting beside Verone tensed as the hybrid smiled at me seeming too distracted to see anything that wasn’t me.

“King Verone, love” Verone smirked at me. His eyes were filled with amusement as he looked at me, the smile that was on his face frightened me. But I knew better than to show fear “I have addressed you with your official title, even though you are a human and well… as you know, you humans are a lot weaker than we are”

“Queen Kiara, RUN!” Giovani said loudly. My eyes widened when I saw him stab Verone in his chest, the hybrid tensed for a second, and the blood drained from his face. Lorenzo pushed me out of the car and the vampire sped after me, lifting me in his arms before he turned to the car where his brother was. My eyes widened at the sight that was in front of me. Verone had quickly recovered from the blade that entered his chest and rather than coming after us, he turned to Giovani and shoved his hand in the man’s chest, pulling it out of its place.

Lorenzo froze at the sight for a second before coming to his senses “GIOVANI!”

He yelled so loud as tears fell from his eyes. The man attempted to run in his brother’s direction but I wrapped my arms around him stopping him, Verone was still on whatever spell he was on, if Lorenzo approached him, he would be sure to stop his heart for a few seconds. But the man would just come back to life minutes later.

“Lorenzo, please, we have to get out of here. He’ll kill you the second you approach him…” I begged as I tried controlling my falling tears, Lorenzo shook his head as he attempted to free himself from my grasp but I tightened my arms around him and kissed the crown of his head “I’m so sorry”

“Queen Kiara, you have to run. I’ll distract…”

“NO! I order you, Lorenzo, we have to leave this place. You are in pain, you aren’t thinking straight. You will be killed the second you approach him. Please, we have to leave” I whispered the last part kissing the crown of the man’s head one last him. He sniffed and tried catching his breath before he nodded. Standing up just as Verone located us, wrapping his arms around me, the vampire sped away from the raging king.

We were trying to get to the palace, we knew that Niklaus was in danger if that man was here. But the second we approached the town, Lorenzo was forced to stop as we looked at the raging flames eating the town with everything that was inside it.

“Lorenzo, the people?” I whispered and Lorenzo’s hands shook.

“We need to help them out…”

“Queen Kiara, you need to stay safe. I’ll go…”

“Don’t you think of it, we’re going inside together. We have to get the people out” I said looking at Lorenzo, seeing the state that the two of us were in. He nodded and the two of us rushed inside the burning town, the people’s screams filled our ears and my eyes were wide as I took in the frightening sight that was in front of me.

“I told you, Queen Kiara. The fun is just getting started”

End of Flashback.

“The people need help Klaus, I can’t…” seeing what I saw, getting inside my mind. Klaus knew exactly why I was frightened. Why I was in pain, what happened to the man who had been my guard and companion for as long as I could remember. The two guards were sent to the human palace by Niklaus to care for me knowing that no one would keep me safe back in that place I called home. I was scared, frightened, and worried. Lorenzo has been quiet for the past hour. His head was buried in his hands as he sobbed for his lost brother. His family was yet to know of the news and I didn’t want to know how they’d react when they found out. But I needed to go and pay them their condolences myself, the man gave his life to save me.

“Klaus, I’m scared…” I whispered to my husband, my hands fisting his shirt as I sobbed. His arms tightened around me as he hugged me tightly, his lips kissed the crown of my head and I shook in his arms. I saw a man die right before my eyes to protect me and his brother, the number of people who had burned alive in front of me. Screaming in both agony and pain, the women cried for their children, brothers, fathers, and husbands. I didn’t know how I was going to get through all of this. This had been the first time I’d seen such a brutal sight and knowing that this has happened to the people once before, I understood now why Klaus feared entering such a war. These people couldn’t handle such a loss like this again, especially since they’ve been through one before.

“We’ll get through this, my love. We’ll get through every single step” Niklaus whispered to me and I shook my head pulling away from the hug.

“He’s just getting started Klaus, that thing is going to stop at nothing…”

“We have Rosetta in the dungeon, we’ll get the spell out of her no matter what the cost would be, my love. You just need to calm down, you just need to take a breath” Niklaus said looking me in the eye. He cupped my cheeks seeing my trembling lips as I fought to stay strong but he shook his head at me “let it out my queen, don’t hold it in you”

He wrapped his arms around me once again and kissed the crown of my head as a sob broke from my eyes. I laid my head over his beating heart which was racing as he tried processing everything that happened. I knew one thing at that very moment. We had to find a way to get out of this mess, we had to get rid of that poison called Verone, otherwise, we’ll all end up dying, and our kingdom would cease to exist.

“How are you feeling?” Klaus asked me sitting on the edge of our bed. His hands held mine as I came to my senses. How I ended up here was something that I didn’t know, all I remembered was crying in that place. What happened after that? I couldn’t remember.

“What happened?” I asked Klaus who smiled at me, he put his hand on my neck and I frowned in confusion but he took my hands in his. I could see the amusement in his eyes as he looked at me. I could see that despite everything that we’ve been through, the king was somewhat content and happy. That alone forced a smile on my lips at seeing my husband and mate happy.

“I forced you to sleep, I sucked your blood until you fell asleep. I couldn’t handle seeing you in that much pain. So, I made you fall asleep…”

“Klaus!” I snapped stopping him, he chuckled and I glared at him. Our eyes met one another’s and he shook his head at me. The two of us smiled at one another and I raised an eyebrow at him.

“You lost consciousness, love. You cried yourself to sleep in my arms, I had to give you a little of my blood to recover though. Your blood pressure dropped a little, and I needed your body to strengthen. But your body was too exhausted, therefore, I had them inject you with medication to keep you asleep” Klaus said and I nodded. He's wrapped around me and he got in bed beside me pulling me to lay on his chest. His arm tightened around me and I smiled listening to his beating heart.

“What are we going to do, Nik? Everything is getting messed up and I don’t know how we’ll be able to handle this or how the people would be able to handle it” I whispered and Klaus nodded kissing the crown of my head.

“You are going to calm yourself down,” Klaus said gently, his hand going to my stomach and holding it softly making me frown in confusion. I turned around in his arms and looked him in the eye, the two of us looked into one another’s eyes and he smiled “you’re pregnant baby girl, you must not exhaust yourself”

“What?” I asked wide-eyed and Klaus smiled. I looked down at his hand and he took my hands in his and kissed my knuckle.

“The reason you fainted, that your body couldn’t handle the pressure that you were in. You are pregnant, baby girl. You are carrying our baby inside you” Klaus said looking me in the eye. I covered my mouth with my hands and Klaus nodded at me, the smile on his face could be seen a mile away and I wrapped my arms around his neck hugging him tightly as I couldn’t even describe the happiness that I was feeling, the smile that was on my face despite everything that we’ve lived in the past day.

“Klaus, you’re serious? I am…?”

“Yes, baby girl. You are carrying our baby inside you. The two of us are going to be parents, and we’ll have our baby in our arms very soon” Klaus smiled as tears of joy filled my eyes. Klaus frowned for a second looking me in the eye, but I shook my head at him. These tears were happy tears, the two of us were finally going to have our baby in our arms, the two of us rested our foreheads against one another’s and Klaus kissed my lips softly.

“You’re carrying a hybrid baby inside you, love. That means your pregnancy would be a lot faster than carrying a human baby, a human baby would take nine months for the baby to be fully formed. But as a hybrid child, you’ll be giving birth in three months” Klaus said softly, his eyes meeting mine as he explained the situation to me and I nodded smiling. All I could do was smile. Knowing that my husband and I were going to be having a baby, that we were going to be forming a family together. Everything was going to be different from here on out “you will need to pay extra attention to what you’re eating from now on, and you’ll be having a little dose of my blood every day to help your body recover from the changes that you’d be going through. You’ll also need to be under constant surveillance to ensure that you’re vitals are in a normal state”

“But Klaus, with a war…”

“You will not worry about the war. From here on out, all you would worry about is yourself, your baby’s and your health. Leave the war, the battle, the blood, and fight up to me. Okay?” Klaus said cupping my cheeks, I opened my mouth to speak but Klaus kissed my lips gently. The two of us looked one another in the eye, and he smiled “believe me, baby girl. What you’ll be going through would be a lot more hectic than the war, we’ll be fighting it out there. But you’ll need your strength, love”

“Okay” I whispered to him and he smiled “but you will promise me that no matter what happens, you will come back to me”

“I give you my word, my queen. I’ll do everything in my power to come back to you”
