Chapter 190
Chapter 190
Kaiden
It wasn’t a pack movie night, but it was a lazy, hot day. The cicadas screeched out there in the heat. It was so hot the shifted Warriors panted as they did their patrols. I made sure to send a community letter that if they’re getting hot, or sunburn… Take the Day Off.
I won’t have my wolves out there dying on me or something. I’m heat resistant. I can’t even get burned anymore, as it is my natural element.
“Hey grandpa, hey grandma.” Said Tyson behind us.
Bagel wagged her tail without wanting to get up, while my sweet mate and my wolf screamed. I’m sure my pup heard Rakaam.
/AH!/ he snarled, and I resisted the urge to laugh at Rakaam. /Fuck you! I was asleep!/
Heh.
“What’s up kid?” I asked turning down the TV. Thankfully his timing was good. I hope they make a spinoff or something. “Your hand’s in the couch.” I chuckled.
It was a little …grotesque but my grandpup didn’t seem too bothered by it as he pulled it out, taking part of the cushion with him.… His hand was part of the couch, but he didn’t seem affected. It bled as he heated that paw to be normal, but now my replaced couch would need upholstery…. Again….
“Sorry.” He mumbled sheepishly. He waved his hand, and the room became cold, like when Death visits…. Yet the couch was repaired.
….His magical ability surpassed his father, and I wouldn’t tell him that. It’ll blow his head up.
It’s a good thing the kids all do this often… His arrival was more of celebrity appearance than a supernatural magic event.
“Well, I’m rounding up mom and dad, I figure while the Pale Lady is here, you might want to see her too.” He said sheepishly.
“Oh, I was supposed to give her my mom’s recipe book!” Said Eclipse, jumping up and running upstairs.
“Alright Bagel, get down.” I said to my adopted pup.
\[Papa!\] She complained the best way she could.
She could tell I was leaving and she wanted to go… but she’s just a little dog. I wasn’t sure if it would be appropriate to have her bouncing all over the Moon Goddess….
\[Papa no!\] She whined, and I petted her head.
“You can’t come.” I said firmly.
The way that pup put her head down on that couch, and whined was a show to be seen!
“She can come too grandpa…” said Tyson trying to not to laugh. “Grandmother really likes Bagel.” He said that as if he were hiding something….
My guess is that the feeling of observation I sense is her spying on my fourth pup…
“You seem magically confident.” Said babygirl, sharp as an arrow, because I didn’t catch it.
Usually, Bryson and the kids kind of hesitate to do big, flashy spells.
Except Hiedi. My daughter likes to float down the stairs when she visits sometimes. Well, now that I say that, I think of my granddaughter Tiffany too… I used to give her so many time outs for burning up my backyard with lasers when she was three.
Babygirl’s smile gave me peace as she held that recipe book, filled with the most delicious secrets of our family. Passed down from her adopted mother and blood kin uncle, she’s re-written it for each child. She went all out for this one too, binding it in leather herself.
“Well… I kind of did a bunch of magic tasks and for the moment, I’m not worried I’ll miss.” He admitted. I wondered what they asked him to do, but I knew of all my pups, Tyson wouldn’t allow his nature to consume him. Whatever it was had been done because someone did something stupid.
“Alright, then the three of us can tag along. Connor, Watch the Pack!” I yelled. I could have linked him, but word will spread now with the Warriors without mass links and such. Connor’s busy playing Fontnight with Xaxas, a mortal friend of the Realm King’s, and the God of War.
Yeah, I know he’s been on since After Lunch while clocked in.
That little shit.
He was supposed to be working on payroll, but he’s never late, so I don’t bother him. I will mess with him about it from time to time, but not right now.
…. Nobody knows how many times Lord Xaxas has almost destroyed this planet if not for Connor…. Xaxas, despite being a god millions of years old, is my pup too. He comes and asks advice from us, because we are fully mortal, raised fully mortal. He does not have the ability to see things the way we do, since he is older than fae, older than humanity, yet he has the heart of a teenager.
“Just be back before midnight!” he shouted.
“Alright!” I shouted back. “Have fun babysitting a god!”
Tyson laughed, and we left with magic before Connor could make a comeback. The sudden movement from one country to the next discombobulates you, and makes you unstable, but I resisted the urge to shift.
Gods I wanted too. Fur rippled across my skin and then I locked eyes with the woman who made me… and cursed me, and the one who lifted it too…. She sat there in human clothes like we wear, but I could sense who she was the second I saw her.
“Kaiden! Eclipse! You came too!” she smiled, motioning us to sit with her.
I’ve seen her before, and I’ve spoken with her, but I am not here often. I do not do many fantastical things other than be a Charred One…. But seeing her so casually is still pretty special.
It’s like finding a four-leaf clover during a rainbow.
A hug from her, even though it is so casual, it makes one feel as if they have been elevated. The spiritual feeling one gets from hearing their favorite song the first time, the accomplishment one feels after a difficult task you weren’t even sure you could complete. She is my maker…. And even though we did not share words, I knew she heard my small thank you, that she even knew my name.
I still held awe and reverence… As a mortal, I still worship. I lead those bonfires on Harvest, hosting them for my pack…. that among all the races, we are one of the few who knows the bond of having a mate….
She put my grandpup in my hands while I stood there embarrassingly stupefied. She hugged Eclipse, kissing her on top of the head.
“You’re both precious.” She beamed. “Look how big our little man has gotten!!!”
“How Round.” I grinned.
Tyson sheepishly looked away. I’d never admit that I overfed him many a day. Once their eyes opened, they were always getting into something, or getting stuck somewhere.
“I’m here.” Said Bryson, appearing with Izzy.
Izzy ran and gave us a hug, and she whipped out her phone to show us the latest Zolotos incident. She too feels like this when she touches us, but it is less so…. I am so proud of my little girl… Together, …. They have a whole people to manage and create. The horned kitsune being born are only pups now, no older than Lustros, but one day they will make their bonfires in Izzy’s name, and pray to Bryson for guidance….
And he too has grown substantially…. There was a time when we couldn’t stand each other, nearly killing each other on site. The throat scar on my neck is from him ripping the meat off my bones, and the burn scar on his neck is from my bite… yet now he stands here, and we press foreheads. He’s a brother now.
“Oh my gods that’s funny.” I snorted a laugh, passing the phone to babygirl.
Zolotos figured out how to get into Grace’s freezer, and ate about 4 pounds of chicken…. Then he fell asleep in the cat bed with their cat Snow…. Gods both of them were so greasy and dirty!
“HA! I can see why they didn’t come too!” I laughed.
“Awe.” Said babygirl. “I’m putting this on the fridge.”
We all laughed.
“Wait, you still have that color printer?!” Beamed Bryson. “Let me send you the ones I have of the twins too!”
“Oh, let me send the ones I took from Nightland.” Said Izzy. “Everyone was so cute in their little matching outfits!”
