Chapter 139 Forbidden Line
Chapter 139 Forbidden Line
Dawn’s Point of View
I felt my heart twist with pain as I listened to Logan tell me about his brother. So, he had been carrying something this deep and painful all these years, he always appeared to me like some rich spoilt kid, who didn’t seem to understand the concept of pain.
His sad, blue eyes met mine before he suddenly laughed—a strange, almost hysterical laugh that caught me off guard.
“Why are you laughing?” I asked softly, a little surprise, because this isn’t something he should laugh about.
“Because you’re the first person, I’ve told this to.” His laughter faded.
“Except for the friends who already know about it, you’re the first person I’ve told after all these years.” I didn’t know what to say, so I remained quiet. “My father never forgave me for Benjamin’s death, and allow me to say that he actually hated me for it.”
He sighed softly. “They say death has a way of revealing things. And I realized that I was never my father’s favorite child.”
His gaze dropped for a moment.
“And Benjamin…” He swallowed. “All these years, I knew he secretly wished, somewhere in his heart, that I had died instead.”
“No. Don’t say that.” I reached for his hands. “I’m sure that even if he doesn’t know how to show it, he cares about you too.”
He smiled at me sadly before shaking his head.
“No. It’s okay. I’ve learned to live with it. It doesn’t hurt anymore.”
He turned toward me, his eyes settling on mine.
“Unlike me, you’re so strong, Dawn. And I admire your resilience.” My heart skipped, because this was so unusual. “I’ve been nothing but a terrible person and a jerk to you. You never deserved any of it.”
He paused, and I did too... because he had never said anything.
“I’m sorry.” my heart quickened at his words, and warmth spread through my chest. Logan was finally apologizing to me, and there was no deceit in his eyes.
No hidden motive, just sincerity.
My heart pounded as I listened to him, then his eyes met mine again. They were softer now, yet somehow still seductive, they spoke a language that only the two of us understood.
And I knew this was going to happen, because in that electrifying moment, every other voice in my head went silent.
“Dawn,” he murmured, he took my hands and brought them to his lips. His mouth brushed gently against the back of my fingers, and a shiver traveled through my body. “I like you. A lot.”
He said the words softly, his lips trailing down my fingers before stopping at the space between my thumb and index finger. He pressed a long, lingering kiss there.
His other hand slipped into my hair, gently massaging my scalp before moving down to my cheek and cupping it softly.
“I don’t care about my father’s happiness or your mother’s happiness anymore. The only thing I care about is you.” He said it with such certainty that my heart stumbled, I knew that look in his eyes, I understand it. “I’ve gotten to the point where I can’t shut out the voices anymore. What am I supposed to do?”
He sounded almost as confused as I felt, the attraction was too much to ignore. But how was I supposed to answer him when I didn’t even know what to do myself?
I felt the same way, and I was just as stuck.
“What do you want to do?” I asked softly, my voice wavering.
“Right now?” He asked and I nodded.
“I want to kiss you.” My mouth went dry almost instantly at how direct he was. “Just kiss me? Is that all you want to do?”
I didn’t know why I was asking, or why I was teasing him.
I should have told him no. I should have told him to go to bed and put an end to this before things went any further, but I didn’t want to be alone.
Not after the nightmare, not when there was still a possibility that Jackson might return in my dreams, and Logan’s presence was strangely comforting.
For the first time tonight, I felt safe, and very much alive.
My emotions were running wild, and I didn’t know how to make them stop.
“If that’s all you want, then that’s all I’m going to do,” Logan assured me, this time, I decided to trust him.
It was just one kiss, he leaned toward me, and I closed my eyes. His lips touched mine, and sparks seemed to erupt the instant we connected.
We remained like that for a while, he didn’t do anything anymore, then I opened my eyes.
He wasn't making any other move, no tongue movement, and I wonder if he wanted to just peck me. He had said he wanted to kiss me, yet all he had done was press a gentle kiss against my lips.
My eyes cracked opened, only to see Logan’s eyes were already open, and they were wide, for a moment, they almost frightened me. Not because there was anything dangerous in them, they were simply dark.
Intense, and filled with unmistakable desire.
He pulled back slowly, dragging a careful breath.
“Are you okay?” I asked, studying his face. “Is something wrong?”
He didn’t answer immediately.
I was about to say something else when, suddenly, he moved closer, pushing me back against the couch.
Before I could react, his lips met mine again.
This time, the kiss was completely different.
It was hot and demanding, leaving me breathless.
Logan kissed me with an intensity that made my thoughts disappear, as though he had been holding himself back for far too long. His hands settled around my waist, keeping me close as he kissed me like a man who had been starving for something he desperately needed.
And somehow…
I liked it.
Heat curled through my body, and I found myself responding to him instead of pulling away.
This kiss felt nothing like the one I had shared with Jasper.
That kiss had been confusing.
This one wasn't.
This one made me want something I knew I shouldn't want. Our parents were only a room away, yet for those few seconds, I forgot everything.
I forgot the wedding.
I forgot the consequences.
I forgot that Logan and I were supposed to become nothing more than step-siblings.
There was only him, and me. And eventually, he broke the kiss.
“Little mouse,” he whispered against my lips, his voice rough. “You drive me crazy.”
Then he kissed me again, softer this time, his eyes opened, meeting mine. He pressed gentle kisses against my cheek, then moved toward my ear.
“Logan,” I whispered, my heart was pounding in my chest. “What are you doing?”
And suddenly, the reality of what we were doing came crashing back to me, and I realized that we were crossing a line that I had drawn, promising never to cross again.
